This thread it for those folks that want to learn how to have a long term reationship that exciting, filled with romance, passion and intimacy. A relationship where that fire never dies. My marriage ended after 19 years because we couldn't figure out how to keep the flames of passion a live.

Communication was the number one issue. I didn't feel I could communicate my most intimate thoughts with her. I did once and I was judged and because of that I could not do it again. The flames slowly burned out because of that. We lost the romance and then the intimacy and grew in different direction. One day we woke up and were strangers.

Communication and Sex are very important in a realtionship, bottomline is it you don't have that you don't have a realtionship.
But is is also more than communication and sex. So commonality between, common goals and dreams, you must grown together in the same direction and you MUST know and work on keeping the flames of passion alive.

What does romance mean to you?

For me, it is that feeling my partner gives me that makes me want to do special things that I know will make her happy. These are things I do because of how wonderful she makes me feel. It could be flowers, it could a once wrapped up chocolate, a special gift, a surpise dinner, a nite of hot passion...the list goes on.

I had a similar case with my first wife. We were "married" for 17 years, but looking back the love and intimacy ended after 3. At the 10 year mark I was fed up with not having intimacy in my life and sought solace in flirting, and socializing outside the marriage.

Finally, I met someone (online) that I clicked with, we were able to communicate, and once we met in person the connection was immediate and strong.

We've been married for over 3 years now, and I'm still hopelessly in love with her. We still have our ups and downs, but we have agreed to discuss rather than bottle up our feelings. She's the very best thing that has ever happened to me, and I feel very fortunate that we're together.

Thanks for sharing. I glad that you have found the special woman. I truly beleive you can keep that endorphine rush of love running for ever, you just have to know how to feed it. It looks you like the two of you have found that secrete.

I have met a few wonderful women that I can very openly communicate about anyting and I do mean anything. It is a wounderful feeling to be somesome like that. For me that is the unlimate trust.

Romance can be anything that touches your heart and soul... for me, it is when hubby and I are watching a movie at home, I reach out and he instinctively reaches back... it is the little things that others tend to over look, or try to be too extravagant. One single purrfect rose says multitudes more than two dozen at times. Little love notes included with the grocery list.... or even in his lunch (sometimes even naughty ones)... or that phone call in the middle of the day to just say I love you, I miss you, I am thinking about you. Romance is your significant other knowing exactly what you need at the end of a long day.... and it is stealing time away together in your bedroom, out to dinner, movie, dancing.... even if just for an hour.

Wow... What a great response. It is wonderful to hear of a couple that has such a wonderful relationship.

Reading your note fill me with joy and pain. Joy because I am happy that you have such love and passion in your life. Pain because it reminds me of sadness of my failed marriage of 19 years and the emptiness of not having the love the your two share. However I have hope not more mature and understanding of what it takes to have that relationship, I am just waiting for the right one.

I was dating/married to the same man for almost 14 years. Tradegies and traumas occurred and things started to tear apart. Mostly, due to lack of communication on both of our parts. Funny that now we are divorced, we communicate better. Very strange. He is still my best friend.

What I find romantic, is the closeness of sitting in silence together. Comfortable with each. Sensing each others thoughts. Have him listen to me play the guitar. Reaching over when I least expect him and twirling my hair or just running his finger down my cheek. That walk down the beach under the stars, holding my hand. Then playfully pulling me into the surf, clothes and all and tackling me in the water.

But what I really think is the most romantic is when I least expect it, he turns and looks at me and places his hand on my cheek. No words are necessary. He just looks in my eyes and I feel as if the floor has dropped from my feet. I would make love to him right then and there.

There are more things, but what's funny, is that is the smallest gestures that I find romantic.

Lost in the chaos..... I know now after the failure of a 19 year marriage, that the most powerful force in life is love. I will take love over money everyday. When I find my love again I will do anything to feed the fuel to keep the flames of passion alive forever. If we both worked together that way I truely believe it is possible.. I greet him with a warm kiss and listen to him talk about his day. I want to savor every detail of his day and I devour it. His day is part of my life. What happens to him, happens to me. As he watches me listening to him, he reaches over and grabs me for one incredible kiss, that sweeps me off my feet. He then takes me on the table that I have set and we make passionate love.


Those are the type of moments that no relationship needs to lose. The spontaneity. Even if you plan the most romantic night, being completely taken by someone's presence.

Wow, .... That is so sweet. I feel the same way. Its when I am lying down on the couch what a movie and she runs her fingers thru my hair. It's when I am working at my desk and she massages my neck that she knows it strain from the work. It is teh snuggling in bed at night or catching her watching in shave or undress. Those special touches through out the day that tells you she loves you.
