Naw, Lisa, because this is the hangout. You know, if you've ever been part of a group in meat space (sorry 'bout that) that comes to the same coffee shop all the time- there will be a lot of goofing off and hanging out and one table in the back where people go when they want to talk seriously. Not the other way around. At least- not in any group that made ME feel welcomeLisa Denton said:Perhaps the solution is the opposite.
Gimme a minute, my doggie needs to go outside, BRB.
Anywho, I have posted lots of silly fluff threads, and over time a couple serious threads.
I would not mind if there was a sub-forum for less serious threads authors hangout section. That way, everything stays the same, but there would be more serious threads easily available in the main section.
Also, no moderation, a newbie comes in and posts a cooking thread, fine. A couple, few, silly threads fine. Someone posts a lot and a nice fellow author suggests posting more of the same in the "silly subforum" maybe please.
That way, no rules, no "you can't post THAT here" or nothing, just less silly threads and more serious ones.
Mods wouldn't have to decide what is excessive or allowed, the AH has always been, in my opinion, able to moderate themselves fairly well.
Tempers will flair, mine has, and threads will start serious and get silly, and silly ones will start silly and get serious. The AH had more serious threads a couple years ago, and a few silly ones in between is nice.
A seperate section for lots of silly ones may be the solution, without moderation, or rules, easy for the mods since they wouldn't have to do anything, and nothing would change except for more serious, and less silly threads, on the main AH section.
Just a thought, any comments?

If there's a subforum for writing threads, I'll probably read and participate in them much less than I do now. That's what happened to the visual arts forum. It's there, but I always forget to go and check it out.

I really never thought that the writing threads subsection would be moderated any more than this forum is, by the way,![]()
The level of moderation in SDC is what makes it less than inviting for most of us, I would think.

A seperate place for the silliest, is the back table where shit gets broken and fights break out, along with a few gunfights, and the cops always know which table to go to at that coffee shop. THATS MY table at the back.
I have bent every rule at Lit and broken a few. I think its surprisingly bizarre and wonderful that Laurel has always treated me with respect even when we disagree, and I respect the hell out of her and Manu for that.
The impression I have always gotten from her is that they want NO RULES, NO CENSORSHIP, and NO MODERATION but realize a small amount may be required.
I was just trying to throw another idea on the table which changes nothing, but opens up another place for many of the "silly threads" but still allows many to be posted in the same section where they are now.
The one time that I thought Manu and Laurel was refusing to answer my PM's was one time we was dis-agreeing and over a couple days I fired off a few PM's like "What? You won't answer me?" and stuff like "I deserve a answer" and crap like that. I still remenber the nice PM that I finally got:
"Dearest Lisa, since Manu and I have both been seriously ill with the flu we may not have gotten several of your PM's, to answer your question ............"
I felt like an idiot.
That was how she handled an instance when she could have said "fuck off."
I was thinkin this might be something she would go for, no new rules. The mods would go for, no moderation. And Lit as a whole would go for, no censorship.
Just a seperate place for the silliest, the slightly silly ones stay and there would be more serious threads on page 1 of the AH.
Just a suggestion.

minsue said:The thing that amazes me the most about all of this is that when a poll was done to create a sub-forum for visual arts, something that really has no place in the "author's hangout" if one wants to be pedantic, everything was fine. No one was pissed off or insulting or had any problems at all, really. So why is there so much hostility about creating a sub-forum for actual writing threads? I can kind of understand the hostility we always seem have in threads about what the AH "should" be, but why so much in trying to find a compromise? (please to be noting, there is no sarcasm there, I'm really confused by it.)![]()
Aye. That was my objection to the image forum too.TheEarl said:I can only speak for myself, but I like the AH. I like the fluff and I like reading the writing threads that there are. I like helping, if I can. I get the feeling that putting all writing threads into a sub-forum (except for mine, which I'd continue to post here, as I like the fact that I can get replies in seconds) would mean that I'd miss out on them. I don't generally read sub-forums. I read the AH.

No that would be a tragic loss to the AH.Lisa Denton said:(Lisa skips away remindin herslf to keep her stupid mouth shut)

gauchecritic said:If we have a sub-forum then it should definitely be called "Hoity Toity Writer's Acropolis".
Or have a fucking arguement for the fucking sake of it political forum called "Bumblebee Economics."
Or a "Parochial R Us" forum for all the UScentric threads about happenings or people that no one else has ever fucking heard of[/i] or could be less interested in.
A sub-forum for birthday threads called: "Whose on first?"
A Shereads polls forum called "ShePolls"
Finally, a forum for those interested in writing, give a good and clear indication that they actually have talent, and are well versed in various learned issues. Call that one the "I know how to google forum."
But seriously...
