How can you see that, if you're behind me?

... here, let me get behind you

Ahh, that's better :cathappy:

You better stop before we get spanked for threadjacking in Charley's serious thread!

;)

Nonsense, we're demonstrating exactly why these threads should be moved to SDC!
Darlin', please pull your panties up!

Or down... Or nevermind, I'll do it for you

Just bumping because it's such an even-even split.

Imp? All writing questions begin on a serious note and then get lost on AH. If I want to FIND some answers to a serious query about writing, discussion or debate, the AH seems the place to go for all of a "couple minutes" (and that is no offence, but a truth). What happens is that those serious questions get lost behind fun threads that are more often posted to by AHers. I do not have a problem with that, yet I also don't want to have to search thru 50 fun posts to find the one serious post about writing that I want to REALLY post to. I think a sub-forum would be a good add.

Dictionary definition of the word 'Hangout':

hang·out (noun Informal)
a place where a person frequently visits, esp. for socializing or recreation.
[Origin: 1850–55, Americanism; n. use of v. phrase hang out]

Got it, now??

Good.

I understand 'hangout' Mat, However - it would be a benefit for authors to talk about writing, especially to have a place for people who want to discuss writing more than the typical valley girl sentiment of "OH MY GOD - I GOT BAD FEEDBACK!" Maybe I have a romantic notion of writers meeting in cafe's and discussing ideas, philosophy, semiotics, archetypes and writing. Maybe I am too romantic to think there could be a 'Vicious Circle' or something like it in our time and in a new medium like the Internet - maybe I am too hopeful about intellect in a new style story dynamic, narratives that go against the grain of archetypes. But ... I will keep trying to find it.

Snobbery, CantD? No - the desire and want of an author. Those who say it is snobbish to want and desire are merely ... well, do I have to say it? (edit to add: or be so rude) :catroar:

that's what the "subscribed threads" feature is for.

Solution: only subscribe to the "serious writing threads" you'd like to post to.

God, I went through three pages on the AH - Dumb asses - seriously - I am very ashamed.

But how can you subscribe to them in the first place, if you can't find them?

The thing that amazes me the most about all of this is that when a poll was done to create a sub-forum for visual arts, something that really has no place in the "author's hangout" if one wants to be pedantic, everything was fine. No one was pissed off or insulting or had any problems at all, really. So why is there so much hostility about creating a sub-forum for actual writing threads? I can kind of understand the hostility we always seem have in threads about what the AH "should" be, but why so much in trying to find a compromise? (please to be noting, there is no sarcasm there, I'm really confused by it.)

Well Charley love, looks like you've got a serious thread to stay the course on the AH front page :D Nice one...

And some serious and sensible discussions developing among the regulars too... I haven't seen much flirting yet, and God knows how so-and-so's cat is doing since the operation :D

I diverge for you only, Pops.

I dunno, Min, all I want is to find a middle ground. I thought that might look like a sticky or sub forum. :)

Perhaps there was less judgment in the way the thread-starters of the visual arts forum went about getting what they wished for?

*sigh*

Charley, I don't think you need "proof"... just PM Laurel and tell her what you want, and why, and ask.

The visual artists hangout was created VERY fast. She stickied my "Reviews" thread very quickly. She's very open to good ideas.

It would be a grand experiment. Just take the initiative, PM, and ask for what you want.

And quit calling us dumbasses, you fuckwaffle! :p ;)

Does not matter - I just want to know who is where on the issue. Bitchy tits. :D

Perhaps the solution is the opposite.

Gimme a minute, my doggie needs to go outside, BRB.

Anywho, I have posted lots of silly fluff threads, and over time a couple serious threads.

I would not mind if there was a sub-forum for less serious threads authors hangout section. That way, everything stays the same, but there would be more serious threads easily available in the main section.

Also, no moderation, a newbie comes in and posts a cooking thread, fine. A couple, few, silly threads fine. Someone posts a lot and a nice fellow author suggests posting more of the same in the "silly subforum" maybe please.

That way, no rules, no "you can't post THAT here" or nothing, just less silly threads and more serious ones.

Mods wouldn't have to decide what is excessive or allowed, the AH has always been, in my opinion, able to moderate themselves fairly well.

Tempers will flair, mine has, and threads will start serious and get silly, and silly ones will start silly and get serious. The AH had more serious threads a couple years ago, and a few silly ones in between is nice.

A seperate section for lots of silly ones may be the solution, without moderation, or rules, easy for the mods since they wouldn't have to do anything, and nothing would change except for more serious, and less silly threads, on the main AH section.

Just a thought, any comments?
