But isn't mood what sets the people of one age apart from another? You can be meticulous with details, but all the descriptions of fashion and architecture mean nothing if you don't evoke the feel of the times.
I think that's why Holllywood so often crashes and burns when trying to portray historical events and the people that lived through them. They seem obsessed with historical accuracy in set design, yet persist in giving their characters modern sensibilities and moralities.
Don't sell yourself short. Mood is the true gen of capturing a moment in time. The rest is just backdrop.
