Reality of Coronavirus Not Allowed To Rain on Donald Trump's Parade

Sure, Trump should get out there in crowds and without a mask. Press the flesh (which he doesn't do anyway), make sure other people not wearing masks, taking his lead, cough in his face. Mingle. Get up close and personal with folks--several times a day.

If nothing else, every time he opens his mouth and speaks more voters wake up to what he is.

Trump’s Tulsa campaign rally sign-up page includes coronavirus liability disclaimer

The sign-up page for tickets to President Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa next week
includes something that hasn’t appeared ahead of previous rallies: a disclaimer noting
that attendees “voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19” and
agree not to hold the campaign or venue liable should they get sick.

Trump’s reelection campaign announced Thursday that the president’s next
“Make America Great Again” rally will be held June 19 at the BOK Center.

The rally comes as the United States has surpassed 2 million confirmed cases
of the novel coronavirus, with more than 112,000 people dead.

Trump finds a way to "make a buck" from anything he can get his hands on.
Has Trump lost interest in the National stockpile, because of the lack of
opportunity to play corrupt games with stockpile funds and supplies ?

Trump sold everything of high value, from the contents of the National stockpile,
before coronavirus, and traded items of good worth for bribes, at the height of the
first coronavirus outbreak. Which left America with the leftovers when it was time
to fight coronavirus. Outdated, expired PPE, old respirators, expired medications,
and ages old testing supplies. Attitude-"Some Americans will die. Big deal. Why
spend money on it ? It won't make a stink until it happens here. Fuck the WHO."

Trump sent Jared Kushner to tell America that Americans had no rights to the National stockpile.

"The notion of the federal stockpile was it's supposed to be our stockpile," he said.
"It's not supposed to be states' stockpiles that they then use."

"I would dismiss what Mr. Kushner said," Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, told
NPR's Here & Now. "That is absolutely not the way it is supposed to work."

Stockpile of emergency medical supplies moving back to health officials’ control

The Trump administration has shifted a federal stockpile of emergency medical supplies
— a repository of crucial coronavirus-fighting gear — back under the control of federal
health officials. The move is part symbol and part substance, restoring the government
closer to its normal configuration after the pandemic’s first traumatic months.

The Strategic National Stockpile, holding respirator masks, gloves, ventilators and other
equipment, drew extensive complaints from states and hospitals this spring after (Presiderp)
Trump’s declaration of the virus as a national emergency caused the Federal Emergency
Management Agency to inherit the storehouse, which had been depleted for years.

Its return to the Department of Health and Human Services, now underway, coincides
with other shifts. An assistant HHS secretary, chosen in mid-March to coordinate
federal coronavirus testing efforts, is phasing out of that role. Meanwhile, the
White House’s coronavirus task force, led by Vice President Pence, has become
significantly less active, convening at least two times a week, rather than daily,
according to officials.

"Trump went so far as to complain in a Wall Street Journal interview this week that
some Americans wore facial coverings not as a preventive measure but as a way to
signal disapproval of him."

Trump has repeatedly signaled to his supporters that he expects them to bare their faces

In countries keeping coronavirus at bay, experts watch U.S. case numbers with alarm

As coronavirus cases surge in states across the South and West of the United States, health experts in countries with falling case numbers are watching with a growing sense of alarm and disbelief, with many wondering why virus-stricken U.S. states continue to reopen and why the advice of scientists is often ignored.

“It really does feel like the U.S. has given up,” said Siouxsie Wiles, an infectious-diseases specialist at the University of Auckland in New Zealand — a country that has confirmed only three new cases over the last three weeks and where citizens have now largely returned to their pre-coronavirus routines.

“I can’t imagine what it must be like having to go to work knowing it’s unsafe,” Wiles said of the U.S.-wide economic reopening. “It’s hard to see how this ends. There are just going to be more and more people infected, and more and more deaths. It’s heartbreaking.”

China's actions over the past week stand in stark contrast to those of the United States. In the wake of a new cluster of more than 150 new cases that emerged in Beijing, authorities sealed off neighborhoods, launched a mass testing campaign and imposed travel restrictions.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump maintains that the United States will not shut down a second time, although a surge in cases has convinced governors in some states, including Arizona, to walk back their opposition to mandatory face coverings in public.

Commentators and experts in Europe, where cases have continued to decline, voiced concerns over the state of the U.S. response. A headline on the website of Germany’s public broadcaster read: “Has the U.S. given up its fight against coronavirus?” Switzerland’s conservative Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper concluded, “U.S. increasingly accepts rising COVID-19 numbers.”

On Thursday, the House and Senate were in session at the same time, for the first time,
since the pandemic began more than three months ago.

(This past) Sunday, Sen. Patty Murray and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wrote
to the administration, urging it to disburse nearly $14 billion for testing and contact
tracing provided by Congress.

"It's completely unacceptable that while billions in federal dollars Congress passed to support
testing sit unspent, this Administration is closing testing sites in states where new COVID-19
cases are rapidly on the rise," Sen. Murray added.

The federal funding for drive-through federal coronavirus testing sites ends, at the end of June.

The “New York Tough” poster released by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday. (Office of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo)

- Michael Cavna
Writer/artist for Comic Riffs, covering visual storytelling,
cartoon art/illustration, comedy/satire and animation.

A picture is worth a thousand words, the saying goes — but what if it takes
a thousand words from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to explain his office’s own
picture?

July 14, 2020 at 5:38 PM EDT

At the center of the “New York Tough” poster, which Cuomo’s office is offering
for order online, is a mountain with the uphill face labeled, “Pulling Down the Curve
Together,” and the downhill face, peopled with essential workers, labeled, “The Power
of ‘We.’ ”

At the top is a rainbow with a “Love Wins” banner and a quote from Cuomo:
“Wake Up America! Forget the Politics, Get Smart!”

Within this treasure map of captions, the mountain is bordered by “the Sea of Division”
and spans “111 Days of Hell.”

In trying to unpack the many meanings behind his poster, Cuomo said at Monday’s
briefing that New York went up the mountain, then “we curved the mountain” and
“we came down the other side.”

The art’s big upward arrow labeled “Projection Models,” Cuomo added, represents
“the economic models,” including accounting for beds and ventilators. The arrow
crosses the downward line of “Economy Falls.”

Explained Cuomo: “Get it, Economy Falls? … Like Niagara Falls.”

The poster is replete with “little visuals of what was going on,” Cuomo said,

including the flame of a “New Rochelle Hot Spot”; a reference to fictional philosopher
AJ Parkinsonwho was created by the governor’s father, former New York governor
Mario Cuomo; and President Trump sitting on a crescent moon, with the caption
“It’s Just the Flu.” The art also includes “Boyfriend Cliff,” a reference to how
Cuomo has invoked his daughter’s significant other at his coronavirus news
conferences.

On social media, the positive responses included one fan who tweeted:
“I want the new Cuomo COVID poster more than I’ve wanted anything
in a while.”

(Cuomo’s office has received about 12,000 orders for it.)

“It appears the work was designed by a committee,” Blitt says,
“or perhaps a committee made up of several smaller committees.”

And the New Yorker’s Mouly says, “This is a good example of a work in which
there was no art director mediating between the client — Cuomo — and the poor
artist.

Last Week with John Oliver dove into the world of conspiracy theories and why
they can be so powerful

Friendly Atheist

Who is Judy Mikovits in ‘Plandemic,’ the coronavirus conspiracy video just banned
from social media?

She has now accused the scientific establishment of conspiracy again.

In a film called “Plandemic,” and in a recently published book that topped the
Amazon bestsellers chart this week, she makes a bizarre and false claim:
that the doctors and experts shaping public policy in response to the novel
coronavirus pandemic have silenced dissenting voices and misled the public
for sinister reasons.

She falsely claims that wealthy people intentionally spread the virus to increase
vaccination rates and that wearing face masks is harmful.

The film is so questionable that social media platforms including Facebook,
YouTube and Vimeo on Thursday scrubbed it from their sites. A Vimeo spokes-
person, for example, said that the company “stands firm in keeping our platform s
afe from content that spreads harmful and misleading health information.

The Last Week Tonight host dissects the allure of conspiracy theories,
and the particular risk they pose during the pandemic

- Adrian Horton

Given the transmissibility of Covid-19, conspiracy theories, even fringe ones, are especially
dangerous now, Oliver explained, even if only a fraction of Americans believe in them and
act accordingly, such as refusing to wear a mask or physically distance. And they are “a lot
more popular than you might think”, said Oliver.

The longing for meaning behind senselessness is, experts say, a strong draw of conspiracy
theories, which “explain a chaotic, uncertain world”, said Oliver, and appeal to our
proportionality bias, or the tendency to assume big events must have big causes.

(The many pandemics before coronavirus)

“The only difference now is that our current pandemic is coming in the age
of the internet, when it’s not only easier for people to do bad research and
spread their results, but it’s also possible for them to make material look
startlingly authoritative,” said Oliver.

“conspiracy theories are sort of like ugly buildings and deeply tragic adult children
in that Donald Trump loves to unleash them into the world and then refuse
to take responsibility for them ever again,” said Oliver.

Oliver said. “No matter how many emails you send saying ‘no one tell Roxanne,’
Roxanne is finding out.”

I see impeached president trump is back in front of the cameras explaining to the great US public how things are going with the trump virus.
The one true statement he made, which must have nearly choked him as it came out of his mouth, was that it will get worse before it gets better. I also see that the true poofter has emerged as he now encourages the wearing of masks. That's going to upset all those MAGA losers who have been demanding that their freedom of choice and manliness not be infringed by wearing masks.
I think he's left his re-appearance on the greatest reality TV show on earth a little too late. He will not recover his ratings with this belated attempt.

Reality of Coronavirus Not Allowed To Rain on Donald Trump's Parade

Six months, later, and Trump is still complaining that doing something constructive about

Trump could have saved America the pain, grief, and loss, if he did this six months, ago.

President Donald Trump's new political self-preservation effort

Americans every day is being exposed by his refusal to share
the stage with scientific experts -- or the facts.

Where are Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx ? Dr. Robert Redfield ?

Trump, the only figure on the stage for the coronavirus briefing, it's "perfect" according to him.

Nearly everyone in this nation, that can still separate fact from fiction,
knows that Trump lies constantly, and could not convince anyone that

someone that still trusts him, with anything attached to reality ?

"...if you want to point the finger at one member of the White House coronavirus task force
who has consistently fed optimistic projections and questionable data points to the president,
it’s Dr. Deborah Birx."

Dr. Birx was their validator, the only public health official among the group of political
hands, and the Times describes her as “the chief evangelist in the West Wing for the
idea that infections had peaked and the virus was fading quickly.”

Dr. Birx had an office in the West Wing and fully embraced “her role as a member of the president’s team.”

Fauci describes Birx, whom he considers a friend for decades, as more political than him,
a “different species.”

The Rio Grande Valley Is Texas’s Coronavirus Hot Spot

The death rate from COVID-19 in Deep South Texas is more than twice
the state average.

July 24, 2020

The Rio Grande Valley stretches along more than a hundred and twenty miles
of deep South Texas.

Yet despite being home to more than 1.3 million Texans, it’s an often-overlooked
part of the state.

By almost every metric, Hidalgo County—the most populous county in the Valley
and home to McAllen, Edinburg, and Mission—is the center of the COVID-19 crisis
in Texas.

McALLEN, TEXAS

July 24, 2020

National attention caused by reports of migrant children being detained in a McAllen
hotel has already prompted reactions from local leaders.

U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-McAllen, issued a statement Friday implying that
there would be some effort on the congressional level to address the situation.

“I am aware of the situation at the Hampton Inn in McAllen and am deeply concerned
by the events that have taken place. Rest assured, we will be taking the appropriate
Congressional action to get to the bottom of this,” the statement read.

McAllen Mayor Jim Darling also addressed the situation Friday, saying he was sympathetic
to the individuals’ situation.

“We certainly would support, especially [since it’s] involving children, that they have access
to whatever they would need to be able to have meaningful processing, whatever that is,”
he said. “Representation or contact with parents, whatever that is.”

However, Darling said any municipal action on the matter would likely be limited.

“There’s really not much we can do about it from our standpoint,” he said.

In just the last week, Hidalgo County has seen 217 COVID-19 patients die—two and a half
times the number in Harris County, which has more than five times the population
Statewide, the case fatality rate hovers at around 1.2 percent, while in Hidalgo County,
it’s currently 2.9 percent.

(Did Trump send refrigerated trucks to Hidalgo County ?)

A woman whose father died in a nursing home told the Tribune that she had to wait
a week for his body to be cremated, as the ovens had broken down from overuse.

“Those deemed too fragile or sick or elderly will be advised to go home to loved ones”
instead of receiving care, a startling acknowledgment of how resource-starved the region is.

Given the dire situation, local officials are desperate to flatten the curve and to get
COVID-19 under control, but they are finding that they have few tools at their disposal.

Monday night, Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez issued a new stay-at-home measure,
requiring residents to shelter in place during this deadly stretch of the pandemic. Cortez’s
order, however, is rendered toothless by state guidelines, which prevent enforcement of the
rule.

Tuesday, at a virtual meeting with local leaders, Abbott also announced that the state
would be contracting with a local hotel to provide recovery facilities to COVID-19
patients in the region.

When Trump's war against immigrants began-
Federal agents removed the children from parents and hid them across the country,
and federal agents flew the deliberately separated children on commercial airline flights,
and citizens noticed. The airlines had enough concern for their brand andprofits to tell
the federal agents to stop using their jets to do their dirty work.

The corrupted government officials fed false tales to the public.
Summer camp, and day care so kind, so lovely, you would send your
own children, to these detention facilities for babies and children.

They were prison camps, and everyone found out.

The agents do not use the huge prisons for children and babies, as bases
to deport the babies and children.

Homeland Security hired people to sneak the stolen children out of the country,
and they hide the sight of children in hotels.

The Supreme Court told them to stop separating children from families, but Homeland
Security, Customs and Border Patrol, and I.C.E. have been defying the SCOTUS for
months.

Activists try to reach migrant children detained in McAllen hotel

July 24, 2020

McALLEN — Activists milled about on the sidewalk here in front of the Hampton Inn
& Suites on Thursday evening, trying to keep banners with telephone numbers painted
on them from flapping in the wind and waving their hands up at the fourth and fifth floors.

There’s children there who don’t know where their parents are, who don’t know why they’re there,” Lopez said. “We’ve heard stories of children here for weeks. It’s just eerie. Here in the Valley, the most mundane things — hotels, warehouses, interstates — the Department of Homeland Security has turned into black sites, areas where children are detained in cages.”

“We suspect that with a lot of the media coverage that has been happening around this particular hotel that the government would really like to have this over with and these kids disappeared from this site,” he said.

If that happens, Lopez says, he believes the individuals in those rooms will be expelled from the country or moved to a detention center.

“We suspect if they move that they will either immediately be expelled, that just means put on a plane and sent back to whichever country they came from alone, possibly in a city they don’t know, or the government may just put them in a Border Patrol detention center and hold them for well beyond the 72 hours that is limited for children to remain in detention centers,” he said.

If any of the people in those rooms do call, Lopez says there are legal steps he and the members of his organization can likely take.

“From there we can then go to a court and try to issue some sort of temporary restraining order and keep the government from expelling them, and keep them here in the states so that way they can be put through the correct process which for decades advocates have fought for is what the law demands,” he said

Insisting schools reopen during a pandemic doesn't have to be hypocrisy or disdain—
it can be both

July 25, 2020

- Mark Sumner

In another clear demonstration of the impossibility of reopening schools safely,
St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Maryland—the private school attended by
Barron Trump, where the student to teacher ratio is under 7, the largest class size
barely cracks double digits, and the budget per student is many times that of any
public school district—is not opening in September. In a letter sent out to parents,
the school discussed the possibility of offering some “hybrid” classes in addition
to online learning, but even that decision has been put off until they get a chance
to see where things stand in mid-August. Fully reopening the school is not even
on the table. This is a completely reasonable and appropriate decision, even if
new cases in Maryland are standing at half of the peak they reached in May.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been forced to admit defeat on his dream of a
“big, beautiful convention” in Jacksonville, Florida. Despite a budget of $100
million, and months of planning for a period of just four days, Republicans
could not come up with a system that would keep their delegates and politicians
safe. That hasn’t stopped them from insisting that impoverished school districts
can keep thousands of children in tight confines for months at a time with no
extra money, no extra materials, and no help in planning. Back to school, kids!

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster for the Rio Grande Valley
and 28 other counties as Hurricane Hanna makes landfall in Port Mansfield

July 25, 2020

The declaration came less than two hours after Hidalgo County Judge
Richard F. Cortez made a similar declaration for his county, imploring
the governor to deploy state resources to aid a region that is already
struggling to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cortez’s letter to the governor stated-
“I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that an effective
response is beyond the capability of the local jurisdiction to control. …

“I am requesting that you declare a state of emergency for the state of Texas
and issue appropriate directives to deal with the emergency.”

Gov. Abbott said he has requested that President Donald Trump declare a federal disaster
Abbott has also requested assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency
“for Public Assistance Category B” and hazard mitigation, the release states.

(No, not Trump. Coronavirus has already visited, and it is devastating the communities.)

Hidalgo County Judge signs disaster declaration

As the first rain bands of Hurricane Hanna began to move over Hidalgo County
Saturday afternoon, County Judge Richard F. Cortez declared a local state of
disaster, sending a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott asking for state disaster relief
resources.

Water rescues were still underway Sunday and drainage systems in many parts of the
Valley have reached capacity, meaning that flooding has been and remains a concern.

The Category 1 hurricane downed trees, wrecked homes, damaged cars and fences
and property, but no deaths or serious injuries have been reported in the Valley yet.

Federal, state and local authorities began focusing on recovery efforts Sunday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Sunday afternoon that disaster
assistance has been made available to the state of Texas to supplement state and loca
lrecovery efforts in the areas affected by Hanna.

Hospitals flooded

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

A downgraded Hanna continued charging across the borderland of South Texas and
northeastern Mexico, where flooding remained the biggest threat Monday in a region
that was already reeling from a surge in cases of the coronavirus.

Hanna, downgraded to a tropical depression, passed over the U.S.-Mexico border Sunday
with winds near 50 mph (85 kph), the National Hurricane Center said. It unloaded more
than 12 inches (30 centimeters) of rain in some areas, and more was expected.

A community building known as the “Dome” in Mercedes, Texas, was set aside for
evacuees who had tested positive for COVID-19 or were exposed to the virus.
Across the region, shelters were also opened in hotels, schools and gyms.

Abbott announced Sunday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved
an emergency declaration that will provide federal aid.

Hanna blew ashore as a Category 1 storm late Saturday afternoon with winds of 90 mph (145 kph)
not far from Port Mansfield, which is about 130 miles (210 kilometers) south of Corpus Christi.

More than 150,000 customers lost power Sunday throughout South Texas, including
Corpus Christi, Harlingen and Brownsville, utility officials said.

Corpus Christi is in Nueces County, where 60 babies tested positive for COVID-19 from July 1 to July 16.

The past week has also been the county’s deadliest of the pandemic.

In the Mexican city of Matamoros, across from Brownsville, the rains shook tents in
a refugee camp housing an estimated 1,300 asylum seekers, including newborns and
elderly people, who have been waiting for months for court dates under a U.S.
immigration policy informally known as “Remain in Mexico.”

Looking for “Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf?” protesters shouted. “We’re not afraid of the big bad wolf.”?

Reporter Questioned Trump On His ‘Expert’ Doctor Who Believes In Alien DNA and Sex Dreams With Demons Causing Cysts — So He Ran

Donald Trump has a sadz because he had a very bad day. This female woman reporter person, who doesn’t know her job — her real job, which is to be ornamental and please men — kept bugging him about this swell doctor he found, who is a “big fan” of hydroxychloroquine. And she doesn’t believe in wearing masks or any of that stuff. Donald though he might now have a chance to move those 68 million doses of the useless drug that he ordered up. Plus — can’t this dumb broad get it? It’s time to announce a cure for COVID-19, so Donald can take a victory lap and get reelected. And this doctor was going to help him. Now he’s screwed — again.

If you didn’t see it, Trump retweeted a video by “Dr.” Stella Immanuel, who is a pediatrician who believes “children need to be whipped,” and religious minister, who operates both her medical clinic and her church,”Firepower Ministries” out of a strip mall in Texas. She posted a video on Facebook, which went viral in a matter of hours and which was declared a must-see by Donald Trump, Jr. and then retweeted by Trump senior. The video touted hydroxychloroquine as a cure and dismissed the use of face masks. It was eventually taken down by Facebook for “sharing false information” about the virus, after racking up millions of views in a matter of hours. And Dr. Immanuel was not pleased. She threatened hellfire, while meanwhile Donald Trump was digging his own grave deeper. Daily Beast:

“Hello Facebook put back my profile page and videos up or your computers with start crashing till you do,” she tweeted late Monday night. “You are not bigger that God. I promise you. If my page is not back up face book will be down in Jesus name.”

Trump’s deplorables are keeping America sick.

The country could effectively put the crippling Covid-19 pandemic behind us,

(all of the communities that took the lockdown seriously, wore masks, took precautions,
had great success in limiting the spread of coronavirus- the party people, the Republican
objectors, the church fanatics, threw everyone's sacrifice and hard work down the drain.)

Trump supporters, including Republican officials, are making that impossible by waging
a cultural war against common-sense pandemic solutions, such as wearing masks to curb
the virus' spread. As most countries now enjoy post-coronavirus recoveries, Trump's
America careens deeper into the crisis. If only somebody had warned us about how
dangerous his fanatic followers are.

Hillary Clinton, of course did just that, and the press crucified her for it.

In September 2016, she suggested half of Trump supporters fit into a “basket of deplorables."

The baskets included, " “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic."

In terms of newsworthiness, the press treated Clinton's "deplorable" story on par with Trump's
fraudulent charity, his illegal "university," his refusal to release his tax returns,
and his mocking of the disabled, among the candidate's many blockbuster transgressions.

Looking back-
"Clinton's comments about Trump's human deplorables were overly generous,"
Salon's Chauncey DeVega noted in January. "Trump's reign has encouraged a wave
of lethal hate crimes and other violence against nonwhites, Muslims, Jews, gays
and lesbians. Trump's foot soldiers have engaged in acts of political violence
and terrorism against Democrats and others deemed to be the "enemy."

And then came the pandemic.

"Worse than I could have imagined": Epidemiologists rain hell on Trump’s appalling pandemic performance

Several professional epidemiologists have told The Atlantic that they’ve been shocked at the Trump administration’s failed response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, which so far has killed 155,000 Americans in just five months.

In the story, journalist Ed Yong writes that he has spoken with more than 100 different infectious disease experts over the last several months and has “learned that almost everything that went wrong with America’s response to the pandemic was predictable and preventable.”

“The U.S. fundamentally failed in ways that were worse than I ever could have imagined,” Harvard Medical School epidemiologist Julia Marcus told Yong.

Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, similarly told Yong that it has been shocking watching a federal response that has not even tried to control the spread of the disease.

White House, hermetically sealed off from reality

The U.S. just recorded its highest one-day death count since mid-May. Testing delays continue to plague the national coronavirus response. School reopenings have turned into gut-wrenching chaos for parents, students, and teachers alike. And college football, one of America's favorite fall pastimes, is grinding to a halt in many parts of the country.

But in an absolutely baffling news report, Politico writes that White House officials are feeling "increasingly confident" they've got a handle on fighting the pandemic heading into the fall.

Just to be clear, this is a dispatch from la-la land, if for no other reason than all the working parents facing reality across the country who are straining to do right by their kids while the federal government barely lifts a finger to facilitate safe learning environments. When Trump lamented the state of school and business reopenings Wednesday, saying, "We can do better," he wasn't talking about himself or his administration. “We got to open up. We got to open up our schools and open up our businesses,” he urged. And yet, Trump and his chief of staff were uniquely responsible for blowing up the relief bill negotiations that included north of $100 billion in school aid. Trump supposedly plans to send 125 million masks to school districts (we'll believe that when we see it), but he isn't mandating mask-wearing for students or teachers, and the guidelines the White House sent out were so vague, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten called them "almost comical in their lack of detail and rigor."

Almost. But not nearly as comical as the White House feeling good about their positioning headed into the campaign’s final months, which are also promising to be another grueling season of the nation's discontent.
