Real life friends with benefits examples?

I've been lucky enough to have 2 different fwb's. 1st was when I was in my 20's. Only issue was she was my friend's wife. Red head, we had a lot of fun for sure. 2nd was when I was in my 40's. Umm you had an affair with your friends wife and some girl used you to get to your wife.
 
What is the difference between an Affair and a FWB situation?

I would say that an affair has adultery involved and a FWB may not

A FWB might be an affair, it might not.

Adultery might be with a FWB, it might not.

If it's adultery, then yeah, it's an affair.

If it's not adultery, it's not.

FWB just means the two people understand they're not "together" or going to be a couple, they're just friends who have sex with each other.

An affair could be with an extramarital romantic lover, an extramarital friend with the sex benefits, an extramarital fuckbuddy who'sotherwise not even really a friend, an extramarital co-worker, all sorts of things besides a FWB.

A FWB might be extramarital without the spouse's permission, it might be extramarital with the spouse's permission, it might not be extramarital at all.

Or it might be an affair.

FWB are usually two single people who don't want a relationship, but just want to get together occasionally for a hookup.
An affair usually involves when one or both people are already in a relationship and are cheating on the person they're supposed to be committed to.

I had a couple of FWBs back in the 1980s. One was the girl who took my virginity and another was the daughter of some insanely wealthy dude from Memphis. The first one and I continued our relationship until 1988 or so (so for about 5 years all told). I even ended up dating her kid sister and still fucking her (neither cared that I was sleeping with both).

The second one was the college roommate of an incredibly uptight and straight-laced girl I went to high school with. The two of them couldn't have been more opposite of each other. I’ve had several over the years. One was a gym friend that carried on for probably 7 ish years. ended when she moved to the east coast. Saw her a couple years ago when I was in town for business. Like riding a bike. Still check in with each other a couple times a year.
 
One for about 3 months we shared music interest and love each others views when it came to expressing thing in different art mediums. She wasn't in a good place so she took time for herself and I'm assuming also ghosted me during her time off
