Today there was an accident at a construction site. They were destroying a building in preperation of putting up a new one when the backhoe hit a gas line. The line broke and something sparked. Now they had a monster cigarrett Lighter going.

The Fire Department was called as well as the Local Gas Companies. (We have several.) People showed up on scene and the arguments started as the FireFighters tried to put out the fire. The gas was jetting out hot and heavy.

Then a FireFighter hit upon an idea. He grabbed a couple of guys some piping and a flange. He had the hose crew dousing the fire scene while he and another dropped the flanged pipe over the broken one. This redirected the flaming gas up and away from the break in the pipe. Now they could work a little safer, sealing the bottom of the pipe they now had a lighter sticking straight up, away from the fire crews and Gas Men.

It took a while but they were finally able to find the source of the gas and shut it down. (A Gas Main long thought to have been shut down.)

It was impressive to see but it could have been a real nightmare if the gas had leaked into any of the surrounding buildings before igniting.

Sometimes, but I wasn't involved in this. I merely got to watch as it happened across the street from the hospital where I work.

Uh huh. That's what Jessica Fletcher used to claim, too. I think the
half the population of that little town was murdered by the other half and then she moved on to New York City and still they dropped like flies all around her. :D

I always suspected SHE was the murderer, and found very clever ways of covering up her crimes ;)

Welcome to Cabot Cove

Population: -18 and counting.

I worked at a company that was located in an industrial park where there was a lot of new construction going on. Over a couple of weeks various tools of ignorance severed water, not gas, lines on some five different occasions. If you had to go to the bathroom, you went NOW, not a few minutes from now, as the water might be off and the bathroom closed.

The City Engineer came in and had a little talk with the Project Engineer who was running the dig and flood operations. From what I was able to learn the City Engineer offered the Project Engineer a free hearing before the State Contractor Licensing Board if the water went off one more time. Surprise! The water never again went off.

Most of the survivors in that little town, and everywhere else she went, were her nieces and nephews. She must have been part of an enormous polygamous family to have enough siblings to produce so many niephews.
