Hope it's ok to post a few questions here...

One of my story submissions was rejected with the reason of spelling. I have been over the story a few times, as have a few friends...and we only found one spelling mistake. Is one spelling mistake enough to be rejected? I've seen spelling mistakes in many stories here so I am a bit confused.

Also, I am currently editing a story to submit, but am unsure which category to place it under. It is a M/F story of a bratty girl that gets her attitude adjusted by a spanking from her boyfriend followed by anal sex. The spanking theme pretty much makes up most of the story, but the erotic parts are all anal related. So Anal or BDSM story? Any advice?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

It's certainly okay to ask questions here.

Are you absolutely sure that your story was rejected because of spelling? I'm assuming that you know because it said so in an email from Lit. or because you saw it after following the rejection link. Well, I really can't tell you anything about this without seeing your story. Try submitting again...

About the second story, I'd say BDSM because i'd hate it if I was reading Anal and BDSM creeped in on me. It's a very subjective thing and I guess there are people here who would say it the other way. Decide what is the main theme of the story and submit it there and mention in an author's note that the story has some Anal/BDSM too.

Hope this helps. Keep writing.

The rejection reason stated "Did I spellcheck to make sure everything was spelled correctly??" but I never did get an email. I'm thinking it was more so rejected for lack of sexual contact, but would think they would state that as the reason rather than spelling. I think I'll just try posting 'hotter' stories, this one was more so implied erotic. I guess I don't really understand the rejection policy there beyound what is stated in the FAQ, which isn't much.

On the category...I see what you mean about some not liking the spanking/bdsm theme in there, so would be safer in BDSM. Since the theme is 'tamer' than what I would normal classify as BDSM I, was debating. (spanking is sometimes a much different kink than BDSM as a whole) Lit needs a subcategory for spanking stories *grin*

Thanks for the reply :)

You don't actually get an email, I don't think. You go to the submissions form and click rejected for a reason.

Was your submission paragraphed? Were there spaces between punctuation and letters? Was it longer than 750 words? Did you get words like waist/waste or their/there/they're mixed up?

Post a snippet here, if you don't mind. Maybe we can help!

yeah I didn't think there would be an email...I just saw the rejection and reason on my submissions page.

Thanks :) I just found one word in the story that spellcheck replaced with some off the wall word that for some reason I didn't notice...so perhaps it was that along with the spelling mistake. Might have been some punctuation issues? This story proved to be a hard one as far as punctuation since the style is very loose. I'm not even sure I WANT to repost it, because in re-reading it, it's really not an overly erotic story, but it is a real life story and very erotic to me, so I wanted to share that.

Here's a snippet from somewhere in the middle of it...

The snap of the cold chain leash to the metal ring of the collar brought my attention back into focus. I blinked at him as he closed my hand around the leather loop of the leash, telling me to hold it. My focus swung from everything to nothing...and settled solely on him. The first words in my head were "Yes Sir". I didn't voice them out loud, but they were there, and they were instantaneous. I submitted.

The rest of the scene was a wonderful blur. The soft suede and leather of the floggers lured me into relaxation, followed by a step up to a faster and harsher rhythm that I soaked up and sank into. They felt wonderful on my back, spreading the warmth across my body as the strands landed over and over, back and forth. The double tails of the whip left stingy little triangles all over my back and bottom as I struggled to maintain my composure and not move as he had ordered. My only thought right then was to obey that command and submit to the sensations. I wanted to please him, impress him with my ability to take what he gave me.

The scene was a carefully tailored blanket of control that started out in my hands and was gracefully taken back by him, all in one fluid moment when that collar was placed around my neck. The collar served as an artificial means of taking my focus into his hands, to let me know that something had changed. The feeling was incredible; my whole body aware of every movement, but my mind focused on him and where he was taking me. My submission was rediscovered.

I took a deep sharp breath as the tails of the whip warmed my back, leaving traces of its stinging bite behind and warning of more to come. I took them all as motionlessly as I could, remembering his order to stay still, until suddenly he stopped and I felt him move in behind me. He didn't tell me to lift my head or break position, so I stayed there with my head buried in my arms, trembling from the exhilaration. His warm hands ran over my quivering body firmly, encouraging me to relax, to feel the touch, embrace it, and cherish it. My pussy twitched with arousal as a fan of feathers tickled over my warmed flesh. My nipples tightened as his fingers slowly traced over me, his body pressed tightly into mine from behind, calming me in the security of his presence. I trusted him; I didn't need to tell him it was all right to continue.

Here's some fun questions.

What word processor did you write with?
What file format was it saved in?
Did you submit via uploading or by cutting and pasting?
If you cut and pasted, did you press preview first to see how it looked?
Were there question marks in place of quotation marks when you previewed it?

Accidents happen, that story appears to fall within the guidelines. The scripts are funny because they were built to be compatible with Word when the smartquotes are turned off. Smartquotes will ruin the document when you submit it.

Well, I got an email when my story was rejected because of some formatting glitch. Was it special?? Ohhh... how I love them then. :D

Judging from the snippet, it seems VERY OBVIOUSLY to be BDSM.

No, the snippet was from the story that was rejected for spelling and I wasn't finding many spelling errors so was confused. I placed that one in the BDSM category, no questions there.

There is another story that I havn't posted yet has the questionable category *smile*

We don't reject based on one or two misspelled words. Generally, the story has to have a pattern of such to be rejected. That said, mistakes happen.

Go ahead and hit "resubmit" on the story and make a note to the editor in the "Editor's Notes" box explaining that it was rejected for spelling but you think that was in error. If we find any spelling errors that are egregious, we'll send the story back to you with a more precise description of what's not working. If we don't find errors, we'll post the story. :)

Thanks Laurel, appreciate the reply. I'm rather glad it was rejected, gave me the push to really look it over and improve it even more.

With my luck I added misspelled words, haha

I had 2 poems rejected. One involed necrophilia incest, another advocated children to murder their parents while they sleep. I was told they would go into an extreme section, but have never seen anything more about them, nor do they appear on my list of submissions.

Spelling???
