As we all know, there is nothing at Literotica worse than being utterly ignored. I mean the total "wall of silence, you do not exist" kind. Now, I am a great hater of trolls, and I have been convinced by wiser minds that this is most likely to make them go away, as well as causing them the maximum amount of aggravation, pain and suffering. Which is a delightful thought.

The guidelines as I understand them are:

*Never bump a troll's thread.

*Never directly acknowledge a troll's existence.

*If you want to show support for a trolled member do it either with a positive supportive statement in the thread, without reference to the troll, or through PMs.

*Politely request others to do the same.

Would you support such guidelines as board ettiquette? Would you suggest changes?

Understand what it means to ignore

It seems to me that hopping into another thread and replying with *BUMP* or *bump to chase the troll's thread away* or something of that ilk not only doesn't fool the troll, but in fact encourages them by admitting you are reacting to their challenge.

To ignore is to go on about your business as if they really weren't there at all, as was pointed out recently by Wierd Harold.

To refuse to take notice of; not to recognize; to disregard intentionally, leave out of
account or consideration, shut ‘one's eyes to’.
From a (very old) latin word meaning "not to know, to be ignorant of, mistake, misunderstand, or disregard" which itself is the opposite of the latin "gnarus" - knowing.

if they're not bashing someone (which i guess they usually are) i always think it's kinda fun watching someone make an ass of themselves.

one of my many perversions i guess.

*sigh*

There are no trolls.

I haven't seen anyone actually hurt anyone with words in a long, long time. No one seems capable of actually disrupting the board anymore. Everyone's too quick, too clever, too "over" the whole troll thing for trolls to ever be effective again. They're ass pimples. Ignore them, zing them, it doesn't matter, don't sweat the "rules".

There are no trolls.

What, do you think you're some sort of Jedi? Mind tricks don't work on me - only MONEY...

So sayeth one of the battle-scarred, battle-hardened veterans of last winter's Great Troll Wars.

Y'all want to see trolls? Go read back then. It's ancient history, i know, but those were some trolls and those were some troll wars. KinKyLove, Yatiyati, and whomever else you want to toss into the pot, all combined, don't equal a fraction of what was around and raging through the boards back then.

I got here during the height of the Great Troll Wars.
Stayed way down low for a long while, too.
It was ugly.

These days, we've living in an era of sweetness and light, comparatively speaking, with regard to troublesome trolls.

My son told me yesterday that he wants to grow up and invent pod-racing so it can be real.

So far, it sounds like we have a resounding "Whatever.... "

~laughing a little~

Oh Harbinger!
The guidelines you've been so kind as to enumerate for us all (mostly the newbies) are good. They are sound. They are balanced and well-phrased.

Thank you for doing that.

Some of us are pretty jaded with regard to this subject.
However, our attitudes have been earned through multiple exposure, troll after troll after troll after troll, and shouldn't affect the wide-eyed wonder and studious attention with which the unjaded give the whole ugly subject.

Sorry for the semi-hijacking.
Your heart was definitely in the right place on this one.
:rose:

oh my no

A resounding whatever would have been to let the thread drop off the page unanswered.

I think they are great ideas!

*places hand over heart* I vow to do my best in following the anti-troll guidelines. :)

:D Okay, then! I'm just trying to be a good citizen. Mind you, this coming from a person to whom kicking trolls is an almost irresistible temptation. Just imagining their little tiny heads going... no, no, I'm not giving in! Next to this quitting cigarettes was easy.:(

you've Changed??? You dont seem as harsh. You dont seem the same with your kinder and gentler AV. Have you lost your samari quiding spirit. Are you asking me, the great troll hunter of the tall grasses to give up on my daily diet of crunchy Trolls? I can not believe it. I refuse to believe you have turned to the the Light side. The Farse shall no longer be with us.

I am shocked. I am disgruntled. What has the boards come to when a great samari warrior can put down his sword.

Well, I shall try. After all only one troll came close to bantering me on a semi intelligent level. Only one person has come somewhat close in terms of bantering with me on my level. But he is registered so therefore can not be considered a Troll. But he didnt make sense in his arguements in the end. Oh Well.

I shall hang my sharpened claws for now. temporarily. But the tempation is great, mind you.

Yes, oh fierce Tiger, I have laid aside my Green Destiny, to pursue a life of contemplation and beauty. (And nookie. You can't leave out the nookie, even if you are Li Mu Bai.) I find solace in the knowledge that even my insults cannot sting as much as silence.
