Purse Posse! Bag People!

I'd paint the door a darker shade to show it off better, then I might consider a more secure closure at the top just 'cause things sometimes tempt people n stuff.

Here's the scoop:

Home dec linen that's been treated against stains & soil.

5 pockets inside, including Petey's pocket for sunglasses.

D-ring built-in to hook keys or wristlet wallet or whatever you'd have a hook for (I use mine in my purse for my bus pass)

Magnetic snap to close.

Metal feet on the bottom to keep it from getting dirty.

The linen is lined with stiffener to keep the shape and cut down on wrinkles, and the cotton lining is lined with fleece -- nice for padding and protection of your goodies.

Straps long enough to put over shoulders.

The only thing I would change would be the inside lining.

I like a purse to have a pretty design inside ....

I know no one will notice the inside lining - but that is what I would change. :)

i always notice that.... and agreed, that's what i'd change...

and actually i'd make the straps a bit shorter.... what's the drop on them right now?

Until Saturday you wouldn't have been able to see the door, much less open it.

And you have exactly hit on WHY this thread came to be. I just made this design up. No pattern no measurements, just started out and made it. I was thinking more along the lines of a tote than a purse, but realized as I put stuff in the pockets that it could be a purse.

I nearly put a closeable flap on it, but I was still in tote mode. *sigh*

When someplace puts in the "petey pocket" she uses him for a model, and he's a trifle taller than you are.

I auditioned about a dozen fabrics for the lining and they all clashed with it too much, so I settled for a cream cotton, but did the pockets in the same linen as the outside. That was my compromise. I was afraid to line it completely in the linen for fear the layers would get too thick at the seams for my machine. We nearly did it in tonight sewing the topstitching over the key fob thingie. It almost didn't fit until my raised presserfoot.

I love the fabric.

The pockets too. They are well placed.

I like the longer straps, too, as I prefer a shoulder bag to a hand bag.

But I have a thing about snap closures, I prefer zippers. But that's just a personal preference.

Did I mention I love that fabric?

If the drop is 1/2 of the length of the strap, then it's 16"

I based them on the straps of my favorite tote bag.

So what we need is some configurable straps in assorted lengths, and a different closure, possibly with interchangeable skins for the interior, then a picture of it over Pete's shoulder.

Okay y'all. So should I market this as a tote? A market bag? A diaper bag? A book bag?

I wouldn't call it a purse because it doesn't close all the way.

A purse totally made of zippers?

As far as the lining is concerned, I like the subtle contrast of the solid cream fabric. It also makes the pockets kinda pop out at you.

I'd buy it.

ah, I tend to prefer a little shorter drop on a purse, i don't like it to sit too low, and my favorite purses are at a drop of about 11-14 inches (i tend to wear mine over the shoulder as well)

Nah, I was picturing a series of buttons on the inside so you could move the attach point up and down, they slide through slits near the zipper and from the outside nobody knows they can be buttoned at different "lengths"

Besides, too many zippers might make Pete nervous.

I would use a bag like this to go to the farmer's market. I often carry bunches of flowers in my similar bag and am still able to carry the bag on my shoulder.

I really liked this fabric too. I think it is quite elegant but artsy. It's by Ralph Lauren Home, not available at the retail level (to the trade only) and valued at $80/yard. I've decided people don't usually care about the name/designer of the fabric, so I'm going to leave that information out of the descriptions from here on out.

well, you could call it a purse.... i have at least one where the only closure on them is a magnetic closure.

i'd say market bag or tote
