Okay. Television commercials piss me off. They really irritate the hell out of me. To make it even worse they put commercials on cable television which I am paying for. So essentially I'm paying for someone to try to sell me shit I don't want or need.

And now they do it at the movie theatres too!

I forgot! Those damn coke commercials. I counted six pre movie coke commercials at the last movie I saw.

DVR is your friend. Fast Forward through the commercials

Don't have one of those. Or tivo. I just have basic cable but for a long time I had not had it. I only have it because it's cheaper than internet alone for some reason. Some dark, dastardly reason.

It looks like there are better shows on the mexican channels. Another reason to learn spanish.

I don't watch TV. That's another reason why. I get to movies about 15 mins after they're slated to begin. That's why.

adverts which blatantly lie, like claiming that Mika's new album is the album everyone is buying, or whatever.

On another board I visit, they all emailed the advertising standards people, stating that the ads were untrue, but in a tone as if they expected them to happen. It was quite funny.
For example, "I have had my yellow Chevrolet for three months and it has not once turned into a Transformer";"I have put my two VW Rabbits in a dark garage and they have NOT reproduced and I am quite miffed," etc.
They were better but I can't remember them offhand.

Did they get any replies?

I think the replies would be in the form of adding disclaimers to the commercials.
You know how a commercial comes on the air and then it has a disclaimer added later? I think it's something like that.
They only got form Emails, I think.

I think it all started with one of those car commercials where a new road opens up for you or you go into the air. One of the guys wrote in that he had been observing his neighbour's car closely every morning for two weeks and this had not occurred and he considered it false advertising. Mostly to amuse himself, but he posted it on the board, and some people followed suit with their own ideas, because it's that kind of place. I'll see if I can find it sometime.

I tend to leave it off but like I said, as a part of their marketing ploy it's cheaper to get basic cable with internet vs. internet alone. I asked about it. It's around fifteen bucks a month more expensive to have cable internet without the basic programming.

I'm pretty certain that they just want you to get used to watching tv so that you'll be tempted to "upgrade" to get more channels. I only really liked the discovery, history and sci-fi channels. Those of course are on the most expensive package you can get without ordering the premium movie channels like HBO, Showtime, etc... Somewhere around a hundred dollars a month.

If TV were exercise America would be fucking phenominal!

We have cable internet and digital something or other with the TV but we don't have the DVR. *sigh* We do have the movie channels, so I watch them. Last night I watched Hostel, and a while ago I watched Rest stop, and they sucked. I always seem to see the movies I want when they've already started, and then they're only on again at 5 am or somesuch.

While I'm in the rant thread, my fucking computer has had something called Diskkeeper Lite to the Desk Tools, and it keeps popping up every two minutes while it's defragmenting trying to get me to buy the full version. I LIKE defragmenting my drive myself. I don't want something to do it for me daily, and I certainly don't want to pay for it. I don't want to be told when to defragment, I don't want to be told to buy something either! And I'm nopt exaggerating! Every two mintues! AArgh!

lol. you'll love this then.. Verizon (the phone company) is now getting into broadband tv. They are now advertising local phone, tv and dsl for like $99/mo.

Makes it easier for "the man" to keep track of you.
