Great suggestion, Box. It opens the creative writing field and I think that's why Laurel and Manu has theme contests. I mean, how many stories can we read, let alone write about sexy recycling and planting trees before it's dick-in-the-dirt writer's block?
I've entered every Earth Day contest for the last 4 years and have yet to even touch upon recycling or planting trees, and I'm not having writer's block. The whole point of the contest is to reach for new ways to tie sex with Earth Day. If you can do it, you enter. If you can't, you depart the field and let those who can enjoy the spotlight.
*hear here*And if you want to expand the field so that there are more spring options than Earth day, you suggest it to Laurel and start a poll.

Good idea, Box.
I've never felt constrained by any contest theme. They inspire me rather than limit me. None of my entries for contests based on a specific day, e.g. Earth Day and Nude Day, have even mentioned the days in question. That being said, it would be nice to have, perhaps, a biyearly schedule, rather than a yearly schedule. Double the topics, but keeping the regularity that encourages us to save ideas for future contests rather than toss them into the garbage bin of our minds.
What stops us from organizing unofficial contests, though? I certainly don't enter contests for the chance of money. I dare say that even an unofficial contest might be able to garner a bit of extra attention if every participating author advertised the contest in whatever media they use, for instance, blogs, social media pages, &c. It might be a happy medium between contests we're tired of and nothing at all.
Or the Rainy Day Challenge, which kind of can be seen as the birth of Coming Together. You've reminded me of this one; The Cardinal Sins of Carnal Writing
And yet another thread circles the drain as scouries sinks it with a load of garbage.
For those who don't have Dickhead on ignore, in the photo of the woman reclined on the bed. what's she doing with her left leg? Holding it up so she can fart? Does Scouries fantasize about smelling lady farts? How very strange.
My suggestion for a new contest theme: Wheels, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, bikes, trains, skateboards, dollies and hand trucks, the wheels on a desk chair? (if the movement of the desk chair is an integral part of the story.)
Seriously, I don't see much difference between Spring and Summer Lovin' other than 10 or 20 degrees, depending on the locale.
I like the other suggestions - weddings, sports. It would be nice to have at least one theme slot changing every year.
What I'd really like to see is a Religion theme. I love it when priests and nuns and Bible-quoting hypocrites do bad things, but I'm afraid this might be a niche category with a very small audience. Remember when that dude had the religious cult out in the boonies in Texas, and he was screwing all the women? Oh nevermind.
You know, you can start chain stories about those two themes you mentioned.
No difference?!?Seriously, I don't see much difference between Spring and Summer Lovin' other than 10 or 20 degrees, depending on the locale.

No difference?!?Not so! Spring is when we come yawning out of winter. ...
