Problem - Word & Toast expertise required

I used 'Toast' this morning to back up on CD's my NaNo stuff, that went ok.

Something seemed to have disabled save and autosave in Word, although the save symbol flashed every five minutes on cue nothing has been saved since I did the Toast back up at 11.19.
Not even regular saves that I tend to hit every few minutes or so.

Anyone any experience of a compatability problem, all my work today has gone. I don't want this to happen again.

That worked, got a full technical explanation from WierdHarold on the How to Board.

Now I know what to do next time - as sure as eggs is eggs it will happen again.
