pretty planes

What aircraft is this? The winglet size is stumping me.

I think is the Airbus A340

Only airbus has those small winglets and the only 4 engine that small is the A340

A380 would be MUCH, MUCH bigger!

It’s an A380. The image is reversed but it’s from Air France Flight 66, 20 Sept 2017. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_66

The winglet is actually a wing fence which protrudes above and below the wing on the A380. Compared with the winglets which are above the wing only on the A340.

Note the vertical section on the trailing edge of the fence in the image which doesn’t occur on the 340 and that the leading edge doesn’t start at the wing leading edge but about halfway along the chord which is a feature of the 380’s fences.

Sorry for the excess geekery but I worked on the A340-600 development a few decades ago :)

No worries, I like the ‘excess geekery’! Thats why I love this thread. I knew it couldn’t be an A340 because the winglets are on those and the 747s are much bigger/different. I feel stupid for my brain cramp and completely forgetting the 380.

That's St. Martens and people go to the beach there because of the planes coming over the beach for landing and taking off. There are several warning signs all along the beach about the dangers of being close to the planes.

For the planes that are taking off, the idiots cling to the fence behind the planes to see who can hang on the longest without being blown away.

Idiots are injured every day doing this and yet the beach has yet to be closed and the behavior is allowed to continue.
