Why is it that some threads get 10 times as many views as posts? Isn't that kind of like walking in through someone's front door and straight out the back without stopping to say hello?
Do you ever feel compelled to say something if you open a thread just because it is the polite thing to do?

Hi Cath

Just walking through and thought I would say Hi! lol
I am one of those that read alot of threads and don't comment on the thread topic.
I find alot of them interesting reading but feel I don't have much to offer that particular topic.

Damn

I just noticed your avatar.
Makes a person wish they were a peeping Tom or Bill or Sam or Harry.

Most of those threads are where members are fighting over something. People want to go in there and see the action but don't post out of fear for getting hit by a flame in the process. Then there are also a lot of guests that haven't registered and just read. Or those that peak in and don't have anything to add so just walk out. But most of them are still fight threads. Yep, that it.

because there's 1000s more people...

who just enjoy reading the posts.

Think of us regular posters as actors on a stage playing to a vast unseen audience..

:D

lol

The snow is not so bad now, some milder weather knocked it down some.
The back is holding up fine too. lol
Your Avatars are hard to keep up with though. I suppose Hard is the appropriate word too. lol

sorry...was just testing them out to see which one I liked best...I think this is a keeper for awhile! :)

many people who come here only read the posts, they do not reply to them, these would be the lurkers. Other people will read a post, and not find any interest in it, so they do not reply.

StondTmplPilot

That's what I said. Stop trying to take credit for my well thought out responce. It took me hours to write that thing out.

:p

Sometimes I go in and out of a post a few times (this is my 3rd time here) before posting, and see, I still have nothing of value to say. Oftentimes it takes, oh, you know, 10-20 views to come up with something halfway intelligible. ;)

No.

You know we Southerners are not known for our politeness..;)

Oh, and I sent "bratcat" a present, but it came back as nondeliverable.. seems she doesn't live there anymore. Too bad, and it was such a nice present too. :p

To answer your question. I do read most of the posts here, but I think of it as a soap opera, I like to watch it, but I don't necessarily want to be in it. I am a shy, quiet person ya know. :)

Then there are the lurkers. The ones that read but don't post.

Sometimes it's fun to lurk and not post. I read most of the threads, but If I don't really have anything to say to them it goes as a view. Yes, this board is better than the paper. So just reading is fun also.

kgboot

Me

I'm a lurker. Watch everything...say very little...think a lot.

I use my discretion in whether or not I respond
to certain threads......

I read wayless than half of the threads begun on any given day.
Of those, i respond to less than half of what i read.
Why?

1. The discussion doesn't interest me.
The thread is devolving
2. ... into a fight; i don't play in those kinda threads.
3. ... into a conversation between two or three people, so i just let them have the thread
4. ... into a showcase for aggressive and nondiscriminatory flirting
5. My mood turns and i just want to read, not post.
6. Someone i don't care much for shows up in the thread

I'm usually kinda picky about which threads i respond to. It's not cuz i think my words/thoughts are so special but because there are a lot of things that go on here to which i don't think i can, or want to, make any kinda real contribution - so i just stay out of them.

I don't lurk; i just don't read anywhere near everything, and i only respond to a small bit of what i read.

Actually, Cath, I think the more polite thing to do is watch and say nothing rather than say something foolish.

Ok I read and now am posting :) happy :) LoL I read alot of the post on here but don't post if I have nothing to add. Somethings I either have no experience in or am just not interested in replying at the time. And seriously some of them just make no sense to me at all after I've read them. I don't know anybody here...well there are ppl I know because I've seen alot of posts by them but don't know them well enough to reply to some of the things they write about....ok I'm off now :) Happy reading and posting everyone ;)

You can't always tell a book by it's cover, and you can't always tell a thread by it's title. Sometimes I may look at a thread and find I have nothing to add to it. It could be because it is pure bullshit, or as Ren said a flame war is going on, or an idiot could have posted something that if you do reply you will start a war.

I try to post when I read a thread, but sometimes I can't, or I don't want to.

I don't post on every thread I read. If I did,I would be here 24/7.
Instead I post on the threads that appeal to me or that I think I have something worth adding to.

I read many, respond to few! Some are boring and some interesting, but I think boring covers the majority!
