Posters vs Viewers

lurking vs. posting

Personally, I have been lurking here for about a month.

I read alot of the threads and want to say something, but then tell myself that nobody gives a crap what I have to say anyway, lol.

Oh well, I am but a lowly newbie after all.

(Bowing my head to some of the really talented and nice people who write here at Literotica)

Have a great day
:p

Just remember...even newbies have opinions of value!! :)
welcome, and have fun!

agree with much of the above, plus

sometimes I check back to see if there has been any reply/response to something I posted. If there has been, I might reply to that, if not, just look at what others had to say subsequently. Sometimes I'll go back to threads I didn't reply to at first to see what's been added, and that starts the cycle over.
No, it's not an addiction--I can quit at any time.

I admit it.....

at times I do tend to lurk a bit but I have good intentions. I am still relatively new, don't know many of you that well and at times my brand of logic (Dawn Logic) is a tad off-beat. I'd really hate to get into a pissing match with anyone over something that was actually quite simplistic but was misunderstood.

I promise to try and do better and post more.

Happy Holidays

Dawn

:D

Damnit I want my money back!
The laugh tracks were in all the wrong places, and your popcorn's stale!!

I don't reply to a lot of threads myself and am still quite the "newbie". However the number of posts which any particular member has accumulated has no direct correlation with the content value of that members posts.

So.....trashing newbies because they don't pretend to have a valuable opinion on every subject in every thread and have yet to accumulate "200" or more posts is in itself a gauge of the content value of the trash posting member!

BTW.....

None of those comments were directed at you or this thread Cath! Just a related subject matter.

i read and post

I did lurk a little, especially in the beginning when i didn't know anyone.

Now, I post alot...but i still want to be sure I have something to add to the conversation and not come in spouting alot of bull no one is interested in...lol!

You are all great here, very welcoming. I am very proud to be a member!!

Have people here been doing this of late? I'm genuinely curious. I thought we were well into a new era of peace and goodwill toward newbies, a time of cheerful welcome and the public recognition of their collective worth to Lit's overall vitality. Have you felt trashed here just and only because you're a newbie?

I have not felt personally trashed at all. No one has been anything but nice to me here. However, you don't have to look very far to still find some lingering resentment or something towards newbies.

I guess I should confine my comments to those I feel are responsible but I don't want to start any stupid fight threads.

It is nice to hear your take on the current attitude of Lit. It is people like you who make this site enjoyable.

Very nice to meet you Cym.

Welcome Curtis71.

Honestly, though, i think you might be a little sensitive on this subject. I think there has been a vanishingly small amount of newbie-trashing, even covertly, going on of late. Sometimes what might feel at first read-though to be newbie-bashing isn't at all; it's just and only those who are comfy here kidding and playing with each other.

Honestly. Newb's are the infusion of fresh oxygen into the lifeblood of ideas that keep Lit alive and kicking. It would be as futile and stupid to resent y'all as it would be to resent the air that comes into your lungs. Most of the people here, no matter what else they might or might not be, are not stupid.

Exception: If someone comes in as a certifiable asshole, all bets are off and it's open season on that particular newb.

You are right cym, I am taking things too seriously. No more! I'm here to have fun and make friends.

I did not intend to say that anyone is stupid either, sorry if I came across that way.

:) :) :)

Woohoo, I'm up over 1 post per day! :D

At that rate, you've only got about 950 days more before you can claim your own title.
;)

The reasons have been covered very well. I might add that sometimes the references are as obscure as Dennis Miller's. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with that. I find the community to be clever & kind on the whole. It just doesn't seem wise or polite to interrupt a comedy dialogue or a seduction in progress.
In fact that was what I saw my first visit to the Forum earlier this year- a couple of ladies getting amorous, and a guy that got flamed to a crisp for trying to build rapport with them, or so it appeared.
I returned to lurk a bit this month, mostly just to see what the authors & poets I recognized had on their minds. I now understand that much of the membership is like myself- polite, kindly perverts.
Just because the flames are thrown and venom spit at "unregistered guests" doesn't mean that it's because they're new, but rather because there are a couple of badly behaved repeat offenders who'd be banned if they didn't alter their identities, or enter anonymously. Of course the regulars can spot them by the style & content of their postings.
Hello cym.

I'm one of those folk who don't care one way or another how my posts are received. To me, cyberworld is Fantasy land. It's somewhere I come to play, and as such isn't that important to me. I know that to some other people, the net is an important part of their day and more power to them, but I just post for fun. If someone wants to give me a flaming for whatever reason... no probs. If I deserve it... cool. If not... I'll get stuck right up ya if it's important to me. If not, I'll ignore you.

Ah ah, line please!

Hello patient1.
Your point about newb's distinguishing between flames tossed to an Unreg Troll and to a newbie was a good one.

The former is almost always (not always) a trouble maker.
The latter is simply new here, perhaps still trying to learn his/her way round the place.

The former is fair game for all flame throwers.
The latter, unless an asshole, is not.

And kiwiwolf, i have to say that most of us came here with something very much like your attitude. Fortunately... unfortunately?... the people who spend parts of themselves here have a way of becoming real and important and of value to you with some time. I'd guess that you've already got a collection of Literoticians that matter a bit in your life, in you mind, in your heart. I'd guess there are already people here that you think about and wonder about and hope are feeling well or cheering for as they go in for that job interview.

Such is the nature of online communities. We're all real people. And some of us begin to matter to others of us after a bit of time.

So keep your distance while you can.
It won't last.

To answer your question. I do read most of the posts here, but I think of it as a soap opera, I like to watch it, but I don't necessarily want to be in it. I am a shy, quiet person ya know. :)

Yeah, Right! And I'm a second cousin to the Pope:D

Why is it that some threads get 10 times as many views as posts? Isn't that kind of like walking in through someone's front door and straight out the back without stopping to say hello?
Do you ever feel compelled to say something if you open a thread just because it is the polite thing to do?

Cath, I read threads by people that I admire for one reason or another. I don't go to any others. I read, and if I have nothing to say I move on. I'd rather be silent than stupid.
