On Oct. 25, the Fifth Circuit Court ruling in Republican National Committee v. Wetzel reversed a former judgment and affirmed that Mississippi’s statute allowing the state to receive ballots up to five days after federal Election Day is not consistent with the Constitution or federal law. It is not even consistent with Mississippi’s own law, the ruling states! Indeed, the ruling is a hopeful sign coming just after the discouraging news that a Biden-appointed judge ordered Virginia to reinstate non-citizens on voter rolls. The fight for election integrity is challenging but most certainly not doomed.

“Congress statutorily designated a singular ‘day for the election’ of members of Congress and the appointment of presidential electors. Text, precedent, and historical practice confirm this ‘day for the election’ is the day by which ballots must be both cast by voters and received by state officials,” the ruling announces. “Because Mississippi’s statute allows ballot receipt up to five days after the federal election day, it is preempted by federal law. We reverse the district court’s contrary judgment and remand for further proceedings.”

A ballot is “cast,” the ruling explains, “when the State takes custody of it.” While ballots might be counted after Election Day, “the result is fixed when all of the ballots are received and the proverbial ballot box is closed,” namely Election Day. Thus “the election concludes when the final ballots are received and the electorate, not the individual selector, has chosen.”

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania city officials announced on Friday that they were investigating a massive fraudulent voter registration operation investigation involving thousands of fraudulent voter registrations. At least 2,500 ballot registrations were in question.

During their press conference on Friday morning, the officials announced that the investigation would likely expand to include at least two neighboring counties.

Lancaster officials also announced that two ballot registration groups were involved in the scandal. These groups were not mentioned by name during the press conference.


A county attorney urged the Secretary of State’s office to warn other Pennsylvania counties to be on alert for fake registrations.

Indiana’s Attorney General Todd Rokita and Secretary of State Diego Morales have formally requested that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) verify the citizenship status of over half a million individuals registered to vote in Indiana.

This request, as outlined in their October 11, 2024, letter, aims to ensure that only eligible American citizens participate in the upcoming federal, state, and local elections.

“States have a compelling interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process,” their letter states, echoing a 2008 U.S. Supreme Court decision.

“[P]reventing voter fraud” and thereby ensuring “public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process,” are priorities that should be pursued vigorously at all levels of government in our country.”

McCoy’s manager reportedly checked the worker’s GPS and discovered he deviated from his route. In total, McCoy disposed of over 1,000 pieces of mail, including 400 political mailings and at least one election ballot.

McCoy’s co-worker then discovered the items. Court documents also reveal McCoy returned unusually early despite leaving significant amounts of mail.

At least four Pennsylvania county election offices — Lancaster, York, Monroe, and Cambria — are setting aside suspicious and possibly fraudulent voter registration and mail-in ballot requests.

When Lancaster County Commissioners announced Friday they had received a load of potentially fraudulent voter registration requests, they mentioned two other counties had similar, ongoing investigations. Instead of naming them, Lancaster officials said they would let individual counties identify themselves.

In Lancaster, officials say, some 2,500 voter registration requests arrived last week in two large batches. Election workers noticed some had the same handwriting, many shared the same date, and some had other anomalies, officials said.

The county investigated and found 60 percent were confirmed as “fraudulent,” according to Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams. She said Lancaster County officials suspect the fraudulent applications are part of a “large-scale” operation that has been underway since June. It is not yet known who was behind the large batches of voting requests, officials said.
