“As long as you promise” Marlina giggled.
She watched him take off his jacket and set aside his guns. Yeah, there is a story there she thought, but she would get him to talk later. It had been a hot day, and she wanted to cool off in the scant coolness of the evening air. She took off her jacket and pulled her hair up into a bun, sitting down she grabbed her canteen and took a couple of drinks allowing the water to drip down her chin and down her throat. She stood up, stretching her lithe body; she could feel the sweet soreness of the days run in her thighs and calves. How Marlina relished those feelings! She turned to Kris and offered her canteen as she pulled out her silver flask; it had been a gift from her parents before they were killed in a raid that the convoy had not quite escaped. Pulling off the cap she took a small pull of the sweet moonshine from within and felt the comforting burn down her throat. She sighed and turning held out her little flask to Kris, who was staring at her and attempting to hand the canteen back to her. She returned the canteen to her coat and looked around for something to turn into a comfortable place to sleep. Looking under the counter she found some tarps that were tattered but would do if they laid them in layers. She pulled them out and shook them to get rid of the biggest roaches that were likely to be hiding in there.
“Arma-freaking-gheddon and only the roaches survive,” she grumbled under her breath.
After settling the tarps into something that would be little better than the hard floor, she took a small piece of clothe that she kept in one of her numerous pockets and using the water from the canteen she began to wipe the dust from her limbs. She was bent over unlacing her boots to make them more comfortable when she felt him come up behind her; she stiffened her body and stood up slowly.
