These are positive self statements about one's competencies and personality etc.

The technique is to empower a person to think positively about situations that might arouse anxiety and worry, also stress and perhaps upset.

1) Write the statement in the 3rd person
2) write the statement in the 1st person
3) say 1 aloud with feeling (perhaps in front of a mirror)
4) say 4 aloud with feeling (ditto above)
5) Imagine what it would be like if the statement were true, really build up the visualisation.

this technique ought to be practiced and preferably accompanied with Proggresive Muscle Relaxation (usually before the affirmations)

So, this week, and especially today my affirmations go something like this:

N is a competent ******
N is a confident ******
N will succeed tomorrow.
N will be more independent after succeeding tomorrow.
N has past successes that she can draw on and generalise from.

~~

I am a competent ******
I am a confident ******
I will succeed tomorrow.
I will be more independent after succeeding tomorrow.
I have past successes that she can draw on and generalise from.

~~

as for imagining what 'it' will be like, that, i reserve for myself and those who know whats goin on.

~~~
What are yours?
First thought that comes to mind...Stuart Smiley.... ;) :D
But seriously...
I do think positive affirmations can work. And remember that always thinking the worst of yourself (negative affirmations) can do a great deal of damage, I know this first hand.
Grace, you will do fine....
Grace, everything will be ok....
Grace, you will succeed...
(Or is it Stuart Smalley? :eek: )
As for me?
Hmmmm......
Misty, you will start working out again....
Misty, you will get back into shape....
Misty, you will get a better job, this is only temporary....
Misty, you be able have a successful relationship...
I haven't tried positive affirmations. My problem is lack of motivation and laziness, not stress, anxiety, etc. I do well with being calm in situations like that. Anyway, will "A is not a lazy somethinorother" work? Or is it too general? It should be broken up into, "A will get up NOW and go and do such and such work" I suppose. Hmmm... :cool:
I think this is an excellent idea. :rose: But I can't share mine in public, they're a tad bit too personal. :eek:
I am going to succeed.
I am a confident and competent ******
I am calm, composed and careful.
I am in a realistically ositive state of mind.
I am a capable person who can succeed.
I will succeed.
Vermilion you will get better
Vermilion you will get your life back
Vermilion you will be at the point you were before you got sick this time
Vermilion you will cope.
N see, you knew you could do it, and this is just another in a long line of successes you can add to your list.
N, see how confident you are.
Yay you, N, you're learning how to say 'yay me.'
Our little girl is growing up. :rose:
(Now be careful behind the wheel. :) :rolleyes: )
