Polar Vortex vs Solar Vortex

Second cousins are the best.

Don't pay any attention to the speed limit sign in West Virginy that read WV 70 Clemson 33.

Some sick fuckers on them hills.

I left home when I was 17 and have very little contact with la famiglia. But kin is kin and they come creeping out of the hollars every time they need something.

Yesterday I was soooooo tired. I slept in until 4pm. Then, of course I was up all night watching really bad movies. Fell asleep about 4am this morning and woke up bout 9am - to oppressive humidity.

It has to get pretty hot and/or humid before Johnny shuts up the manse and turns on the a/c... so I'm sitting here at my desk with sweat running down my ass crack.

I think it's time to seal up and turn on the machine.

The BLTs have been excellent this year.

It's the tomatoes. Always the tomatoes.

Our local farmers (and my neighbor) are just pissing their pants with excitement over the various crops this year. I go down to the weekly farmer's market and have to dodge streams of piss every which way I turn.

Perfect weather this summer for growing Johnny's favorite produce.

AND, I got a brand new pressure cooker and once my jars get delivered I'm going to be canning like Mr. Del Monte.

The GB is, at its most fundamental level, a gathering of the world's foremost experts on whatever topic of the day is.

If the US bombs some third-world mud huts, we have experts that will explain to the rest of us the exact composition and capabilities of not only the US's military, but those of the inhabitants that live in the mud huts.

The word "recession" makes the 6 pm newscast - no problem. The GB is full of expert economists and we are all the wiser for it.

Recently, a police shooting in fly-over country is occupying our attention and obviously we GBers have our firearm/ballistics/forensics/investigative experts.

What I always find amazing, and what I'm thankful for, is not that we have so many experts on so many subjects, but that usually it's just a handful of posters that are the experts in every subject. It makes reading posts by multiple posters unnecessary and saves me time.

Walking to the mail box is usually the highlight of my day. Today there was no mail there. I feel cheated.

I've been sitting with the neighbor, in lawn chairs, in his garden, eating jalapenos right from the vine.

Now that's livin'

A Fata Morgana is an unusual and complex form of superior mirage that is seen in a narrow band right above the horizon. It is an Italian phrase derived from the vulgar Latin for "fairy" and the Arthurian sorceress Morgan le Fay, from a belief that these mirages, often seen in the Strait of Messina, were fairy castles in the air or false land created by her witchcraft to lure sailors to their death. Although the term Fata Morgana is sometimes applied to other, more common kinds of mirages, the true Fata Morgana is not the same as an ordinary superior mirage, nor is it the same as an inferior mirage.

Fata Morgana mirages distort the object or objects which they are based on significantly, often such that the object is completely unrecognizable. A Fata Morgana can be seen on land or at sea, in polar regions or in deserts. This kind of mirage can involve almost any kind of distant object, including boats, islands, and the coastline.

A Fata Morgana is often rapidly changing. The mirage comprises several inverted (upside down) and erect (right side up) images that are stacked on top of one another. Fata Morgana mirages also show alternating compressed and stretched zones.

I never knew that. It always sounded piratey to me.

Indeed.

I picked it cos I'd just finished Mists of Avalon which is all about Morgan Le Fay. I have a big painting of her on my chimney breast too.
