Assuming that the PM'er is sincere in starting a polite conversation (which is unlikely), it shows poor effort in approaching a woman and trying to get her attention.

I agree, heck, i wouldnt dignify a one liner pm with a response, it just shows lack of effort on part of the sender and it pisses me of, its is real life equivalent of replying to someone with nothing but monotonic yes's and noes.

Also i agree, like any interaction, it should be beneficial to both parties, the expectation that i could extract as much pleasure from you without bothering about your needs is absurd and obnoxious and yet sadly prevalent.
