Odds are I will get bashed for asking this simple question, maybe have some nasty remarks throw my way...

I am not saying all play ground individuals are prone to this behavior ... but the majority seem to have them and I am just wanting to hear your take on my simple question that I am about to ask ...

How come the majority of individuals in this place have huge long sig. lines with endless flashing images.. etc...

I am not saying its wrong , I am just wondering what your take is on sig. lines and all that it entails.

I like mine short and sweet with something meaningful that represents me.

I, for one, don't care for all the images (flashing or otherwise) and depending on what type of mood I'm in sometimes have to disable the sigs altogether.

I would guess it's becuase they like playing around ... and most of the sigs are playful. I know this causes a lot of grief for those on dial-up accounts so I tend to keep mine in text format and when I use a graphic it's short-lived.

How funny you ask this question today. I was telling a friend earlier how irked I was at seeing one that was approximately 3 feet long. (Sorry, being a smartass there) I immediately disabled my sigs until my friend asked me to turn them back on so I could see hers.

I too tend to skip over those replies or close the thread completely until someone else posts.

.. this thread made me laugh a bit.

I, for one, ignore the scrolling sig lines.

I don't turn them off, but rarely do I actually read them.

I think it is reflective of the people that choose to have long winded sig lines. Some people just can't help adding a bit more.. a bit more glam, glitz, etc.. Kind of like what people will do to their lawns if not regulated by the suburb commitee's.

I think it is cute, and more often than not, the people that have the scrolling sig lines are very sweet and kind people. Always willing to help in any way they can and with a kind word to say. Always apt to make you smile with some silly antedote.

I see people get dismissed or made fun of because of their sig lines.. which is really pretty entertaining. What does it matter in the long run? They like more color.. more splash.. Not my preference, but then I am not one to ask others to conform to my likes to appease me. People are wonderfully odd, creative, and unusual.

So.. long sig line, short sig line, no sig line.. unless you want to know the person behind the words.. what does it matter?

It is curious to me the distinction between the people in the "playground" and the "general board".

I post a bit everywhere, as time and inclination allows.. I get more of a response in the "playground".

Wonder if it is like a class division?

My sig line leads to my favorite hangout spot, my Bohemian Coffee House thread. One pic goes toward the musical aspect of the Coffee House, the bird is an embodiment of the word 'soaring', which has a private meaning, and also vocalizes about the same as my best friend's screen name, Soron.

Does the length of mine bug you? Just curious, no one has ever said anything.

C_chic , I also tend to post in different areas of the board but dare I say this outloud...*ducking* I am from the general board. That is where I do the majority of my posting.

I have tried to branch out and reply more in other areas of the board, hence me coming over to the playground. But I do find that I get lost here at the playground. For some reason, when I see all the threads they seem all cluttered or some thing along those lines.. but maybe its just my eyes playing a trick on me or some thing.

Curious_Fem , there have been times where I completely miss someone's reply because of all their sig. lines and flashing dragons... their words escape me.

However I think i am niether sarcastic or political enough to post there!!
No offense measnt by that but in all honesty although I am pretty clued up they make me feel stupid and belittled when my posts are replied to.....

I, totally understand what you mean .. at times things on the GB sort of lose all control and there are so many mean spirited words thrown all over the place.

I tend to lurk when such things go on ... I am not saying I never say a mean word but there is a different between voicing your opinion and then some one belittling you and never moving on from there.. so I know what you are referring too.

You know what...there are some people here with those sig lines, but I would argue that it is not the majority. It just seems that way.

Personally I think the large sig lines can be fun, for awhile. I do tend to get tired of looking at the same thing over and over. I try to keep mine rather short (usually 2 quotes and a pic link). If for some reason I put a pic in I don't leave it for very long.

If it really bothers you, just turn turn 'em off.

My sig never gets any longer than it is now...I like mine lil & "cute". Sometimes it gets difficult to read what people actually post, and sometimes it's a waste of time to read when i do see what was posted 1 sentence or just a smiley face..and the sig is never ending. That annoys me sometimes i s'pose..LoL But damn, that ignore feature and the option to turn sigs off comes in handy too i tell ya..LoL

Welcome Aphrodisiac! Come back and visit us often. The sigs usually doesn't bother me. I had never thought about the dial up problem either. However, I have dial up and it has not really caused me any problems. If it does I guess I will just turn them off.

Not sure about how true it is of the 'majority'--but it's not surprising that a large portion of the most prolific posters will have relatively long .sigs--after all, they are in one sense exhibitionists by posting extensively, and a .sig is another venue for expressing yourself in detail.

Anyhow, they don't bother me too much--if I'm not interested, I just keep scrolling...

Mine would be one of those annoying ones I guess, though I try to be thoughtful when I venture over to the GB, and I turn them off when I post.

Mine is a representation of myself at any given time.

Right now I have the links to my picture thread & my voice for people if they are interested.
The pictures are some of those I found at a Ren Faire this year & Felt the need to share the beauty this woman has to offer. I have actually had many PM about her artwork. That has made me very happy. And I do link to her web site right below the pictures to give her the credit.
The song is something that I am feeling, and may change in a day or two.
And the angel/devil is kinda how I am, even though it was put there for Halloween, I just haven't taken it down yet.

So my whole sig line is a representation of me. But if you do go back to look at some of my recent posts on the GB, you will not see my sig line. I am trying to be curtious. But I don't see the big deal.

I guess we could ask why the people on the GB seem to not be able to talk on a subject for very long. Or why they insist on posting threads that mimic other thread titles.
