Pink Orchid 2023: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

Yeah, it was because the date did not over lap for the two. Resubmitted after removing the April fools tag, now it is pending with a post date of March 2nd... as part of the Pink Orchid event. It was my bad, I just sort of assumed they would either post it a day late for one or a day sooner for the other.

The official note was
"Pink Orchid closes on 2/28, while the April Fools contest starts on 3/2 - so this story cannot be counted for both events."

Either way lots of great stories posted for this event.

Well, I am honored that you chose my event over a real competition. Thank you!

I have read all the stories I found with the tag search. This year I think the tag system has worked better, so I suppose there won’t be any new ones on the final list. Still waiting for it to double check, and then I’ll post some kind of a summary on how many stories and words etc we had this year.

If anyone has any suggestions for next year’s event, I’d gladly hear them. I’m sure I’ll have shorter submission period, because this was so long I got bored and besides I don’t think December made much of a difference. So maybe January-February or something. And maybe I should drop my offer to beta read, because this year all of three people asked me to and I scared two of them away 😁 …not an impressive success rate!

I think the prompt was better this year, at least we didn’t get as stuck on any one term as with “empowerment” last year.

With ever more ‘events’ in addition to the official contests, it is hard to keep them straight and the home page is getting more and more cluttered with announcements of same. That being said, I agree with your plans to shorten the submission period. The end date should remain the same in conjunction with international women’s day. If there is any way to keep the announcement of the stories on the home page longer, that would be great, but that is certainly not up to us mere scribes.

I agree that there is a lot of events. However, I like mine, and will be hosting this again next year 😁

The final list is up! I’ll post a summary as soon as I’m able.

The list is up today, International Women's Day, with 38 entries in 13 categories. https://www.literotica.com/s/pink-orchid-for-women-centric-erotica-2023-the-stories

Eight authors double-dipped, one contributed three stories.

There was one each in Anal, Non-consent, Mind control, Non-human

Romance and EC were the popular categories with 7 each.

5 Lesbian

4 Group Sex

3 Mature

2 Toys/Masturbation, SciFi, First Time, BDSM

Thanks Omenainen for doing this and everyone who contributed, some lovely reading here.

I want to assure everyone that, after it was removed from the tag search list, I did nothing else to try to get my story "Dee's Journal" into this year's Pink Orchid event. I conceded the point made by several people that a story posted in the spring of 2022, far outside the submittal window for Pink Orchid 2023, should not be included. (At the time, I had a faulty understanding of how the site treats revised stories.)

To my surprise, however, I see that "Dee's Journal" is on the list for this year's event.

I had focused instead on writing a new story for this year's event, and met that goal. Thus I had even more reason not to pursue "Dee's Journal." I would accept it if "Dee's Journal" is now removed from the list. I wouldn't want this story to establish a precedent for skirting the rules of author-organized events.

Things happen Juan. Laurel must have liked it. Your inclusion here makes up for one of my stories disappearing off the 750 list.

I see no reason why your story should be omitted.

In other news, I've picked up almost 300 views since the list went live. Pretty good for a month old story.

Thanks, I guess, Rusty, but I never thought that I should gain from your loss. OR DID I? There may be no 'proof' that I'm a flim-flamming AI bot, but I've never testified, one way or the other.

Thanks, Melissa. Because my other story here is a 750, I've been tracking how much notice it gets as it debuts on the event lists. In the week after the posting of the 750 list, it got 330 views. In this first day of the Pink Orchid list, it had 353. This might have something to do with there being 268 stories on the former and 38 on the latter.
If I haven't already stated this on this thread (there are so many), I have been awed and gratified by all the positive comments on "A Revealing Moment."
Also, I'm working on reading as many Pink Orchids as I can. 38 could be an achievable goal.

Ah, but 268*750=201 000 words, and altogether we had 387 928 words (and yes, I read them all). Thanks @yowser for posting the summary! Also, I’m perversely satisfied that both the only Anal and NonHuman stories were mine 😁

Last year we had 45 stories and 532 058 words in 18 categories, by 37 authors, so this second run was a bit smaller than the first, but still very good. Thank you everyone for participating!

Here’s a gold star for everyone:

I wonder how that compares to other challenges. It may be that, with more of them going on all the time, people are stretched thinner, and can’t get to every one they would like to join.

I have no idea. I suppose that repeated events get less entries as time goes on, but that’s not based on anything.

Also, this time we had an award-winning story! That is so exciting! Star-Crossed by @Jackie.O.Hikaru won the Valentine’s Day contest.

My story was posted on Feb. 1, in Mature, as both a 750 and a Pink Orchid. Here are some data about which aspect seems to have caught the most attention:

Feb. 22-28, the week before the 750 list was shown on the site: 416 views, 13 votes
March 1-7, the first week of the 750 list: 330 views, 8 votes
March 8-14, the first week of the Pink Orchid list: 1224 views, 16 votes

As I observed a while ago, a 38-story list is less off-putting than a 268-story list.

I agree 38 stories looks more attractive than 268. I wish you could at least see the category on the list stories, as I suspect there's a lot of people clicking then backclicking. I've had many more reads of both my Pink Orchid stories (one mainstream lesbian sex, one rather niche BDSM) than my 750-words in Gay Sex (with no sex in).

I've now published the story I decided not to submit for PO because the main female character is trans (and also because I hadn't finished it!), if anyone wants a look.

All my work has seen an uptick in views since the PO list was released. This is nice as my PO story has a pretty *yawn* title and isn't getting the attention that titles with more provocative wording get, sadly. Hedonism House has gotten around 20k in three months. My latest, with MILF in the title, got that in its first week. Though both have similar ratings.

My stories have also had more views since the list came out. My this year’s entries are my most viewed and last viewed stories, which is kind of funny 😄

MY PO story went up on Feb.10, so it went off the 30 Day Top List right about the time the list went up. Since then, it has gotten about 1,200 views. That's a good week for a Romance story that isn't on the New list.

Your story is on the long side and is in my reading queue. I'm just waiting for a couple of free hours to enjoy it. Looking forward to it.

Talking of uplift due to appearing in a story challenge, thought I'd share the view profile of When One Day We Are Gone Ch. 08 - my submission. Bump on Intl Women's Day is there, but not massive. Not bad for 8 ch. into a story I guess.

Yes, I spreadsheet. I also grammar, given half a chance.

The announcement about the event was up for a very short period of time before being dropped for the next event. It would be nice to see such announcements up for at least two or three weeks. It was a fun event and I hope to participate next year.
