Pink Orchid 2023: Story Event for Women-Centric Erotica - Official Support Thread

My story is live, On the Dishwasher.

I debated whether to include this in the event after the focus expanded. It was originally intended as a 750 word letter from Renae to her husband, but editing down from 13-1400 words to 820 cut out too much of the meat of the tale so I expanded the letter part instead and and added Martin's perspective as he recalled what his wife described when she made her choice.

Does anyone have the sense that one-bombs are more common with this event? Perhaps some of the readers aren't fond of strong women?

I was waiting for some flak last year, but never got any. So I can’t say that I have noticed anything like that. Now that the event list isn’t up yet, I’d be surprised if anyone besides us who are participating even knows which stories are a part of this. (Not to say that I don’t believe you, and I’m sorry you’re being bombed.)

Last year there was a lot of whining and phony baloney handwringing before the event that I thought it would be a bomb fest, but that did not materialize. There might be some of that when the list goes up, but so far, the reaction to my story has been remarkably good.

I think you will be good as long as you stay out of loving wives. The only story I had to get one bombs involved a man with a demon possessed penis burning down a church and getting hunted by gun toting nuns.

Two more days to enter! I just submitted my second one, which is also a 750 story.

I have just about finished a story, but it's not going in this event because it's mostly from a guy's POV, and because the female protagonist is a trans woman - which might well piss off a bunch of readers. (a character in the trans category, complaining about guys fetishising her for being trans, will probably piss off a different bunch of readers, but I'll take that!) Also because I've just found a beta reader and said to them there was no need to rush.

I might get to a 750 one though...

For what it's worth, my story from last year was from the male character's first-person point of view. The Romance readers liked it and I got no push-back from the event readers. I can't think of any reason why an independent woman can't be described from a man's point of view.

Being trans, well... That's an effect for you to figure out.

The story did get a series of down votes after this year's event was announced, but I'm only speculating that they came from people interested in this year's event.

My first entry this year was from the male main character’s POV. And AwkwardMD wrote a wonderful trans girl story last year, and actually, that was from the man’s POV too. But not wanting to rush is certainly a good reason to not publish at Pink Orchid.

If you want votes on this site, fetishise trans women - it's winner provided she still has a dick. There is a small number of readers who value thoughtful presentations of transgender people but it is vanishingly small.

My 750 is a regular crowd pleaser. The tags, excluding pink orchid and 750 ones, are as follows:

dragon, pussy, pussy power, virgin sacrifice, girl power, smashing patriarchy, anarchy in the fairyland, queef

That’ll get me all the votes, I’m sure!

You're probably right. But that's the opposite of the story I wanted to tell, so instead there's a woman with a dick, and a guy who isn't into dick at all trying to get his head round that. No, he doesn't suddenly discover a thing for dick either. There's discussion of potential surgery, just to really put more people off.

I hope the three or so readers left like it.

That's one crowded 750-word story.

smashing patriarchy

Smashing the patriarchy is a tag with over 20 stories on Lit. My guess is anyone searching by that term will give the story a high vote.

Mine is submitted, in pending status.

It is almost 10,000 words. Which is 9,250 words more then I had intended when I started it.

Feel free to give whatever comment or feed back that you like, it's your event story. I checked for spelling mistakes and grammar errors three times. I am sure I still missed something.

Well, my story got rejected for being in both the Pink Orchid and April Fool things. I resubmitted as Pink Orchid only story, maybe it will post. Either way, happy week till International Women’s Day.

That's odd. One's a competition, one's an event. I've submitted a story that went in the Amorous Goods event and the Halloween comp with no issues.

Pink Orchid has to be published by end Feb. April Fool entries aren't allowed until March 2. Laurel has many skills but not time travel (as far as I know; maybe that's how she reads all the stories...)

Oh noes! Yeah, the submission period was long but not long enough to coincide with that competition. Maybe you should resubmit it yet again, tomorrow, with only the April Fools note? I appreciate the intent, anyway.
