Introduction of Question
I know this may not be the best forum on this site to post this in, but while I have been lurking (and I will introduce myself below) I have been amazed at the wealth of compassion and knowledge that I saw for new members and questions that may seem silly. So I'm posting here because I hope that the answers I get will be equally amazing.

Introduction of Self
I'm a college junior in Maryland. I certainly wouldn't say I participate actively in this lifestyle, but it is something I am interested in. My reservations come from my own lack of a committed relationship at this time, if there's one thing I've learned from reading this board, it's that some things are best tried with someone you can trust and feel safe with.

Question
I am very interested in getting a nipple piercing. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any information on the internet about the healing time that is more specific than 2-12 months. That tells me very little. I was hoping that there would be someone here who had a better idea, or even a sort of timeline that went through the healing process. At this point these things are okay, avoid this until its fully healed etc. I'm really concerned about the prohibition against touching the piercing until its fully healed. Does this include the entire nipple and surrounding area, or is it more of a restriction on actually fiddling with the piercing itself?

I have both of mine pierced. It took almost a year to be solidly healed. There was no way I was waiting to play with them so that may have been why it took so long. I insisted he leave the nip and piercing alone for about 3 months and then allowed fingers but waited about 6 months before introducing a mouth or dick/cum.

I could change the jewelry out by about 10 months.

to play with them must have been painful

hmm a uninformed question:) how come you pirce the nipples is there a different sensation to stimulation or its the estetics that you like?

A piercing is an open wound and should be treated as such. A nipple piercing will take about a year (give or take a month or 2) to heal, and during at least the first 6 months you should treat it like you'd treat any other open wound: you don't want to introduce any foreign containments that could infect it, so don't touch it and try not to touch around it. Also: wash your sheets regularly, especially in the early months, and change shirts/bras daily. Even if it's doing really well and looks, feels, and acts healed, don't touch it: the reason it looks, feels, and acts healed is because you've been taking really good care of it (i.e. by not touching it), and if you start messing with it it'll flare up. Take it from me: I've experienced the "Oh, hey, it's healed already! Ouch, never mind," thing many times, and it's pretty annoying.

There isn't really a general timeline of how a piercing heals: basically, your body slowly forms a fistula, which is a tunnel of healed flesh/scar tissue, around the piercing. When the fistula is fully healed, voila, you're done. Everybody's body is different, though, and everyone heals differently. The bottom line, in my opinion, is always err on the side of not touching it. And have fun with the other nipple: that's why you should only pierce one at a time.

I had both of mine done at the same time. The pain, for me, was something like feeling a clamp on them for about 3 days. They itched for about 2 weeks, and clothing durring that time was maddening, though the piercer said that bras were good for them becuase then the clothing was tight and not brushing against them all of the time. I couldn't take the pressure of a bra for very long thought the first 2 weeks.

Like some one else said, it is a wound and just like any other heal time will vary from person to person. My piercer said not to touch them for 2 months and no mouth for 3. At that point I could change them out if I wanted to. Touching went for anything around the nipple area. Basically the idea is you want to keep the area as clean as possible while it's healing so that you don't cause any unnessisarry chance for infection.

As for other forms of play, I stand by the "if it's bad pain, don't do it". There are some things my nipples tollerate now and some they don't.

Why did I have mine done? Well, Jounar had mentioned ages ago a like for the look, and I had a friend that I loved to play with his. I got curious as to how it would feel to have the pulled on. After my belly button healed well, I decided to go for it.

Before the piercing I didn't have much sencation in my nipples, now every blow of the wind makes them hard as rock and ache to be touched. It can be both enjoyable and quite frusterating when there's no one around to suckle them the way they crave to be.

Mine were not bad at all. Did the first one myself in December 2007, got the second one done professionally the next day. I changed jewelry within the first few months I think, they weren't healing nicely with rings so I switched to barbells. I would definitely advise barbells for initial piercing; if you prefer the look of rings, get them after you're healed.

Restrictions against touching are silly. You have to clean the damn thing every day, why wouldn't you touch it. Just make sure your hands are clean. As for sex play, this is one situation where if it hurts, you should STOP. (As opposed to most kink where we like it to hurt!) You can fondle the breast gently any time as long as it doesn't hurt. Don't pull on the nipple at all until it stops hurting. Don't pull ON THE JEWELRY for a very long time, 6-8 months at LEAST. Tugging the nipple, with the jewelry in it, is okay after 3-4 months as long as it doesn't hurt. These are all conservative estimates, I'm pretty sure I did everything sooner, because it didn't hurt much.

WarriorQueen might be around to answer too, she's a piercer. :)

These answers have all been really helpful. It's nice to be able to hear from different people about their experiences. The reminder about all pain in this case being bad was probably very important, I could see myself getting into trouble that way.

Thanks.

Healing time depends a lot on person's abilities to heal and aftercare.

to quote nike?

"just do it"

I've had mine done- one about 9-ish years- the other 5 or so- and i have to say that theres nothing better than a crisp cool day when you are walking about, and a nice breeze comes along, and... yeah, Its a amazing feeling- even if you're not "with someone" When you are? Yeah theyre great.

They tend to bump things occasionally and then thats a nice feeling too. Probably some of the best money i've ever spent.

id check out bme for particulars on healing time- but for someone who's sitting on the periphery of this little world... its one more dip into still waters that run oh so very deep.

I had both my nipples pierced. I took Motrin before the procedure, 400-800 mg was recommended based on your usual dose. After the piercing my nipples stung, were very sore, and itched. I wore a sports bra during the day and at night (changed before bed and in the morning), and while the new piercings were bleeding a little (about 2 days), I used gauze to line the bra. Also I had mine done in the summer, and worked in a physical job - the sweat stings.

Cleaning involved lots of sea salt rinses. After about a month I started using diluted tea tree oil on a Q-tip to dab at the area. Tea tree oil is a natural disinfectant. About 3 months of healing the piercings were healed enough to play with lightly. After about 9 months they were almost completely healed and we introduced tugging, nipple chains, etc.

Bleeding for two days? I don't remember any of my piercings doing that. I haven't had any new ones in a few years though, so maybe I forgot.

neither here and mine are quite new- most recent is month old. :rose:

Recommend a professional

I did my own. Many times; many different tools (e.g needles, leather-piercing tool etc) Usually allowed them to heal.

Although I'm, hopefully, not typical; my left nipple has a permanent, tho healed, slit where the object migrated out. My right nipple seems to have developed a very sensitive nerve ending - very interesting to stimulate with pressure.

Just a thought.
