Same here. For so many years I didn't smile much, but ever since I put all the time (and money, ugh) into making my smile the way I wanted it to be, people have definitely noticed it! I know it has made a world of difference to my self confidence.

My MIL and F in law never smiled when I was dating hubby. Then when the wedding came they both got plates and bridges and everything. Every picture is a huge white smile. I was going to give a thank you speech for teeth!

Anyway now a days I see apt of adults with the Invisalign and they work well. I think it's worth it did a confident smile.

I stumbled a bit over the compliments for smiles with straight, white teeth...
When I was young, only teeth which were really bad set got corrected. All the others smiled as they were. And most of them, me included, still do.

Watching the 'Oscars' one night, my youngsters had some of their friends over and at one time one remarked:

"They are going to have kids they will consider ugly."

I asked her why?

"She has had her teeth, her cheeks, her nose and her chin done. He has had his ears, his teeth and his chin done. Poor kids that will be born without the 'work' done already. They will drag them to the orthodontist and the plastic surgeon until they are as perfect as mom and dad."

We had a long discussion about natural beauty versus unnatural beauty that night.

When I have received compliments I tend to roll my eyes and dismiss them as dribble, so I don't really store them away to be able to complete this survey.

It's a terrible habit and probably says a lot about how I view myself and the value I place on my appearance if we delve too deeply into it, but there it is.
