Pet peeves

Here's one: my father, whom I do not get on with and who I have not spoken with in well over two months, just sent me the same Christmas gift which I'm sure he distributes to all of his employees. That is, a cellophane wrapped basket of assorted non-perishables. Honestly, I wish he just wouldn't have bothered at all

Send it back :D

This was a joke post, right?

Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.

Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean I'm stupid :p

I'm going to demonstrate one of my favorite Lit peeves:

"That's so sad that you and your father don't get along well. I'm truly sorry for you. Even though I hardly know you, I feel deeply that you and I are somehow connected by this. I hope you will grow to know my affection and heartfelt sincerity at this, the most wonderful time of the year."

In case you didn't get it, I fucking hate when people who are complete strangers are compelled to give support whenever anyone (especially an attractive girl) says they have had or are having some kind of family tiff.

there are times and situations where support from one who has been there can mean alot, especiall y to women.

In general though I have to regretfully admit you are right.

Not going to answer my PM huh? *giggle*

My biggest Peev

Just because someone has 'life experience' they seem to think they know everything about everything. (And no I'm not talking about anyone in specific)

Guess what, you haven't been there, you don't know what I'm feeling, and sympathy tends to piss me off.

God this thread is fun :D

I answered the one that was a question. The second was only a statement and I didn't realize it required a response.

Um...why? Strangers on forums are only allowed to connect on the basis of less deep superficial things? Like pets and photography? And sex?

But you didn't actually answer the question, you dodged it with a question of your own.

Would these same people walk up to a stranger on the street and give comfort if they saw that stranger weeping uncontrollably? Fuck no. They probably wouldn't cross the street to piss on those teary-eyed losers. But type out a "I'm lonely" post and the world comes to your rescue.

At least with the street crier you know something about them. You know they live in your city and you know what they look like. Online avatars often give no indication of either of these.

The online world is just different, I guess. I wouldn't walk up to a naked guy across the street and tell him he has a nice cock either. Maybe we're all just deluding ourselves, but if someone reaches out for online support (which by the way, I wasn't doing back there) and they find some kind of relief or satisfaction in the posts he or she receives in response I find nothing wrong with that.

And if someone were to start a thread seeking advice or support for a difficult real life situation they are are experiencing, I wouldn't have a problem offering either of these provided the situation is something I can relate to.

My 2 cents though, you're certainly entitled to your peeve.

By the way, someone who actually met me has posted that I'm the same in real life as I am here. I'm glad she wrote that because I treat people the same no matter where I am. At work I'm completely competent and my customers think I am courteous and friendly. I do my job well. On the road I'm a good driver and I try to follow the rules of the road, and I expect others to do the same. When I see other workers or drivers flouting the mores of a society, I get pissed and I do the same in here.

What I'm trying to say is that I don't treat people online differently than I would anyone else. Unfortunately, I'm fairly unique in this regard.

I'm far more diplomatic in here.
