Pet lovers......

I have a sneaking suspicion that there are a lot of pet lovers here at Lit.

(easy post opportunity)

Sound off!! Doy have pets? If so, how many? What are they? Be specific - what kind of dog, cat, bird, whatever, etc...

Do you anthropomorphise them? Do they rule the roost? Make your day? Drain your wallet?

No pets?

I have the most adorable, clingiest, sweetest, darling, biggest momma's boy of a yellow lab you'll ever meet.

I just picked him up from day care. He's very sleepy and I just took a picture of him!

He's under my desk...as usual.

LOL... you asked!

I have a German Shepard named Wolfgang... he's like the terribly cute but slightly stupid jock from high school

a Greyhound/pointer mix named Rebel that kills anything she can catch... which means we have no raccoons or possums anywhere near our yard. Unfortunately, it also means she smells really bad when she decides the skunks need killing too.

a yorkshire terrier/lab cross that's about 100 years old and deaf as a post.

A black Paint mare named Heidi that's kind of like the german shepard as far as brains go

Two black welsh ponies named Special and Lil Bit. Lil Bit is bred to a Morgan and due in July.

A Thoroughbred/Paint mare named Orca (the killer horse, get it?) that's completely psychotic and the love of my life.

16 chickens that all have names

a goose named Lucy (of course)

a grey tabby cat named Tom that lives on the back porch.

an orange tabby named Spot that makes me crazy, and if it wasn't for the fact that my kid loves him, he'd live outside too.

a grey cat named Turkey that is more like a dog than any of the dogs are.

*edited to add:

a couple of fish and the iguana that we're getting next week

Alex....a very cute puppy indeed. Looks adorable.

And...Pagan?

You forgot the Partridge in a Peartree. My God! I think all that commotion would drive me just a couple pegs this side of insane. You must truly be an animal lover.

No pets in this household as of yet. I somehow managed to kill my last pet. (a lovebird...and he was adorable) But that was awhile ago.

I've been thinking about a dog, actually....but I'm waiting until I'm a little more settled into my new home. I've only been here a few months.

Ah well....All in due time.

Yup. We have a running tab with the vet (who is a frightfully sexy aussie man). Seems like everytime we get him paid off, something extremely expensive happens, so we never pay him all the way off anymore. :)

I've got a gorgeous long-haired black cat with big yellow eyes. I consider him my oldest child (at seven years old). He's definitely my boy....always tries to snuggle into me when I'm online and sleeps with me. He's cute in that he has a thing for the ladies..always acting cute and making these funny little sounds for them. Men he ignores or beats up :D

pagan... all I can say is... wow. LOL!

I have 2 black cats, my twin girls. That's it. They rule the house, no doubt about it... I exist for my cats, or at least that's what they like to think. ;)

I've got a German Shepherd and buckskin Quarter Horse who match: black and tan, smart and spirited.

Say Pagan, is there any scientific proof that horsewomen make the best lovers, or is all the evidence annecdotal? :D

In all seriousness, I have a horse sex question (between horses! Stop your snickering, all of you). I read "Karma" and thought you might know. Anyway, I board my 4-year-old mare with the people who bred her, and she and her daddy do not seem to know they are related. The flirtation is out of control. So I'm wondering, is there (was there) a lot of incest in bands of wild horses? I've heard of "bachelor" herds of young colts, but what about the fillies? I was just wondering; it couldn't be good for the species.

They rule the roost.

Their names are Bubba (he is black and tan) and Allie (she is red). They are miniature dachsunds who think they are human. They have me well trained. LOL.

I have a black lab that torments my cat

I have a cat that claws my dogs eyeballs periodically, and will generally kill any lifeform smaller than him....he's a mean lil pussy...but I lubs him

I have a tarantula...yep....she's soft hairy with big teeth:D

I have a cat..that weighs about as much as a small dog! I kid you not. She is..big boned!

I also have a choc lab that lives on a farm now... My God I miss her so much...she was a Girls Best Friend...

Morgy

I am owned by one calico cat, white with orange spots and gorgeous green eyes.

And there is a brilliant blue beta here too.

Scientific? Probably not. But it's all in the hips, right? Seriously, when I give lessons to adults and they can't quite get loose enough in their lower body to move with the horse, I tell 'em to move just like they would in bed, and it seems to help. :D

But did you like the story??? I never get feedback. :( And no, they probably don't know each other, and yes, there's lots of incest (it's called line breeding) in the horse world, and with most other purebred stock. My horse's papers are proof of that.

My "baby" is my 15 year old Blue and Gold Macaw, "Blue". She's a DEFINITE teenager and rules the roost here! LOL (That's her pic below taken last summer at the county fair. She was crusin' on my Daughters stroller.:D)

We also have a 6 year old VERY sassy Harequin Macaw named Doc Holiday. (We're working on his attitude. )

We have 2 dogs, an 8 year old Akita named Roscoe, and a 10 year old Dingo named Rufus.

3 cats, 12 year old Mandy, 11 year old Keesha and 9 year old Sassy.

A love bird, Buck.

And a 75 gallon fish tank that houses 15 fish. (Yeah, they have names, but I won't go there. LOL)

Day care?
*Howls with laughter*

Just one incredibly "clingy" six year old Black Lab. HOwever, I still rule the roost!

He's named after Eli Wallach's character in The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez)

Let's start off with 6 dogs, Annie and Midge are both Shitzu's (sp?) Sallie is a beagle/spaniel mix, Bear is a Samoyed, Dixie is Black Lab, Zipstrip is a beagle/airedale mix (kinda like a benji meets a brick wall)
Then we will go to 8 cats in the house including Ginger, Marie, and Samantha are the old fogies at a respective 8-9 years old. Lacey will be 4 this fall. Monkeybutt will be 3 in May, Smokey will be 2 in August. Mouse and Ruby D will be a year old in June.
Then lets talk about the 30-40 barn cats that think I am God since I catch 'em take them to the vet and get them shots, and sterilized then take them back home to feed. Hardly any of them come up to me, but the ones that do, are really cool. Amazingly enough with the weather that we've had, all of them have not only made it thru the winter, but have kept the mouse pop. down major time in the barns. Oh and this morning, when I went to go to work, I got the bottom of the driveway to find a box full of kittens that don't even have their eyes open yet, with no momma in site, so I dropped them at the vet on my way to work. He called a couple of hours ago to see if I wanted them. So now I get to go pick them up tomorrow and start bottle feeding 15 kittens. Yay. Now I'll be attatched. Hopefully I can find homes for them.
Then onto about 40 chickens, half who have names including zorro, pit chick(long story), chance, boots, fred, ethel, quennie, emily, blinders (she has blinders on or she eats any eggs she can see) chippy, fly-boy, weasel, and claws and of course big tom.
Then of course, we can't forget 3 calves, gateway, dell, and chuck. All of who think they are overgrown dogs. They even wag their tails when they see us coming. Truly bizarre.
The pigs were finally sold last month, and we have another bunch coming at the end of next month. I don't think we ever named any of them mostly because we knew they weren't going to be here long.
And now mom also wants to get a couple of Percheron's which are belguim draft horses.
You know, now that I listed all of these, all I can think of, is that someone should really stamp "sucker" on my forehead. I'm just glad I have a good paying job.

PCG- I completely understand the vet bill! Mine runs about $200-300 a month. And it would be more, but he gives me a group rate on sterilizing. And he doesn't charge me for house visits.

Yes PaganCG, I liked "Karma and the Cowboy." I have all the animal watching scenes from the Jean M. Auel (Clan of the Cave Bear, etc.) books memorized so it was up against some fierce competition. I like her name too. Sorry about skipping the feedback section. I'm new at this. I hope I did the quote thing right.

Where are you Rox? There's a beautiful Perch mare for sale here. I'd buy her, but I really really don't need another horse. I foxhunted her a couple times and she's the most willing and gentle horse I've ever ridden.

I'm about an hour south of Traverse City (Michigan).

She sounds beautiful, how much are they asking for her? She sounds perfect for mom....
