We've all no doubt enjoyed threads in which we have promoted our latest works or recommended favorite works by other authors. I was thinking, however, that I would quite like to know what some authors thought were their own best works - the ones that best exemplify their style, talents, and interests. Thus, this thread. Please do post to it, but please only post once: one post that contains the title of (and a link to) the story that you think is your best. If your opinion on that matter changes, please simply go back and edit your post to amend it to the new "best." Do try to narrow it down to one story; multiple titles would undo the purpose of the thread.

If this works out well, I think that it would make a good addition to the stickies. But let's see.

(Edited to add: Thanks to all who have posted! This is going to make a great reading list.)

In spite of my success with my Halloween story, The Gift is my current favourite.

I really had to push myself, make some good changes to my mindset to write this one.

Fantasy Nights
Definitely those who would disagree with me on it, but this is the first story I've written where I felt like I was writing more than just fucking.

I really can't say. It depends on if you want hot, deep, creative, literary. I'm usually happiest with the last thing I've written. Or else I'm swayed by the pC's and comments and favor the ones that do well.

Me, I kind of like all my funny-looking children.

if I had to recommend one that exemplified my style though, and was short and hot--pure sex--I'd probably pick "Star Girl"

Couldn't say which one I think is best.
But if I have to pick one that is typically me, I'd go with Remedy for a Stumbler. It's the kind of story I like to tell.

Wonderful idea, Shang. I think this thread will give everyone an opportunity to sample the finest of what Lit's authors have to give.

Personally, I don't think that any of my best work has been done on Literotica. I realize that, to some, erotica is their niche. My talents, as I've always said, lie in other genres. It is there that I shine -- not here. The writing that I do for Literotica is for fun and it isn't something that I spend a whole lot of time revising, perfecting, and/or organizing. I'm of the belief that to become a good author, I must write outside of my comfort zone every once in a while. In that way, Lit is good practice for me.

That having been said, in the spirit of this thread, the best thing that I have written for Literotica wasn't necessarily erotic. It dealt with the nature of sex, but it was just something that I wrote (not intending to submit it to Lit) because I was pissed off. When I finished it, I decided to submit it to Reviews and Essays because it seemed to fit. Now that I look at it, there are glaring mistakes. I've made embarrassing punctuation errors, repeated myself, used poor sentence structure. Admittedly, I didn't edit this piece at all. I wrote it in a fury and sent it off. It's a mess. BUT, it's genuine. That's what makes it my favorite. Everyone who reads it gets a glimpse of me in a rare state of raw honesty and not hiding behind a comfortable veil of poetry as I am so inclined to do.

I apologize for having written a novel, here. My favorite Lit piece, for all who wish to read it:

Women Are Nasty, Too

My favourite story is Lost Love.

It was a joy to write and I really enjoyed the characters, but it was tough for me to finish, even though the ending is known from the opening lines of the story.

Legacy of Judas which can be found in my sig line. Losses, gains, sex, violence, romance, philosophy, a severe fucking-with of a variety of religious and scientific concepts ... its all there with LOTS more to come.

This was a hard decision for me, as I never ever recomend this story to anyone and I know it still needs alot of work, and one day I hope to be good enough to go back and really make it better.

Sometimes They Fall Hard

I would have to say that the "Lost in Texas" (Link to my page in sig section) was really my break-out work where I finally found "my style."

ALIVE AND GOING HOME

Three killed, two wounded, in a kinda, sorta, semi-autobiographical 1600 word, non-erotic, war story. I'm not sure it's my best. But Colly says it's okay, and that's good enough for me.

Rumple Foreskin

I'm probablly my own worst critic. I really don't think any of my stuff is all that good when compared with many of the others in the AH. But if I had to pick one, I'd have to say Visiting Big Sis which was submitted as China.
