Simple answer - stockings or thigh highs. Tights / pantyhose are just not sexy in my opinion

This. Although, I will wear skirts even when the temp is down to 20F (-6C) so in that case it’s tights with a thong underneath and boots. Fun winter nights in which you strip off quickly and then dive under the covers to warm things up...

It's a predominantly summer city over here so most don't wear any at all these days, maybe the odd winters day.
If I go the tights option then its probably 50-50 either just on their own or with a thong.
The reason for posting the thread was that I had a bunch of Japanese corporates visit to look at some mining operations. The ladies joined me in the shower and change rooms to change out of safety gear and I noticed that it was still like years ago and they were trying to manage pantyhose over the top of sizeable knickers and smooth out.

I rarely wear hosiery period but I prefer thigh highs to to pantyhose because panties aside those things are just NOT comfortable. Plus I have a figure that makes it hard to buy for. I have a small ass and no hips but am a bit larger around the middle. If I get the 'queen' sized ones to fit my stomach they are usually too long (I'm only 5'4) but if I get the 'petite' sized ones then I feel like a stuffed sausage. Occasionally I do wear tights but very, very occasionally. When I do panties kinda feel like overkill unless I'm a 'girl' that day in which case I wouldn't wear em anyway. My 2 cents. Feel free to keep the change...

I wonder if it is a generational thing. Growing up, I was expected to have the full on panties, tights, and slip as undergarments. But when I came of age, thongs were a thing and were easily available in stores, so I wised up. Certainly my mother wouldn’t have told me to do that and most of my peers wear pants almost all the time. There may not be any examples for them to follow.

My mom grew up in a household where women were NOT allowed to wear pants. As a result she rebelled as an adult and rarely wore dresses/skirts much less hosiery. We always were expected to wear underpants but tights/hose were preferential. As a kid I wore knit tights to school but that was out of a desire to stay warm as I attended a Catholic school where we had uniforms. The girls wore skirts and the boys pants. I'm 44 if that helps with your timeline on determining generational differences...

Family direction and the influences have a lot to do with it, even within a subset. I identify with the thong set, for me they came along as I was in university and were suddenly the just right option. Before that I would get home and not only would the bra come off as soon as I was in the door but knickers too, but that was the casual mob we were. I still ditch them more often than finishing a day in them

That sounds exciting to me. I have always wished a lady would remove her panties while we were out and had them to me or put them in my pocket so I know how she is under her skirt.

See I always thought that was how you determined it. Double colour crotch or a cotton bit means no panties needed.
A girlfriend this morning pointed out that the decision set might be different depending on whether you are an innie or an outie.

Almost died laughing at innies and outies, but it’s a fair point. I’ve never contemplated party and hosiery logistics from that perspective. God, that would be awful, to have your minora twisted up into nylon. Or maybe not, hmmm...

No matter what you wear air flow is crucial. Cotton gusset, cotton clothes, etc, don't seal things up. I don't know why they don't teach this in health classes. I've seen too many patients come in with easily avoidable issues.

Just analogies. But I still think no knickers underneath is the best way, whether hosiery, leggings, yoga pants or sports pants.
My new sports shorts have a lace insert across the bum so you see the top of your cheeks. Great ventilation but any thong under that will be on display.
