pp doesn't acknowledge the existence of the IRA. Remember his thread of a month ago or so. In that thread he said everybody hated the USA, and that the Brits had no enemys. That everyone loved the Brits and why couldn't the USA be more like Britian.

So in pp's little mind, the IRA must not exist.

It wasn't reported in the other newspapers I'm registered with except one small line in The Times about "rumours" concerning the IRA's procurement of new arms. Nor on the news channels on TV.

This story comes in a week where the biggest stories about the IRA are:

A hit list being drawn up of top Conservatives
Another stage completed in the de-commissioning process
Sinn Fein not receiving very good opinion poll results over the coming elections.

Dunno really except the Telegraph article connects this small story to the IRA men in Columbia and how the rebels there should be placed on Bush's "terrorist" list.

Maybe it's a Bush placed rumour spread through his mate Putin!


This is the Times mention:

"They purchased at least 20 AN-94s, which can fire 1,800 bullets a minute and pierce body armour. The weapons can be used as a traditional machine gun or in sniper mode as a high-velocity rifle for assassinations."

Maybe we'll hear more about it today.

IMHO

The IRA had a cease fire in the 1970's, then PIRA(the provisionals) sprung up to take up 'the cause'. Now that PIRA have a cease fire the REAL IRA spring up to take up 'the cause'. Anyone else spot the trend? They won't stop because they earn to much in drugs and extortion. Just in case you think I'm biased although the Protestant groups have not done the re-inventing trick they to will not stop for the same reasons. Re-uniting Ireland is the last thing on IRA, PIRA, REAL IRA minds. As one final thought, if Adams et al hate the Brits so much why did they/do they draw Unemployment benefits and why were they so desperate to get offices in The Houses of Parliment?

Yes that occurred to me as well when I saw this post and that it's the Real IRA who are importing the new weapons.

But I haven't seen, or heard, anything else about it yet.

It might be just one of those inexplicable rumours.

We'll just have to wait for the first sign of violence or the discovery of a cache of the weapons.
