Overtime sucks

I got up at 6.30 this morning, was at work for 8 and left the building at 4. It's now nearly 9pm and I'm still doing stuff for work. I wouldn't mind if I was getting paid for my overtime, but I'm not. I don't even have any option not to do it, because I'm in the kind of job where what I do affects the lives of other people. I'm too conscientious to say "fuck it", but I'm not half resenting the extra hours today.

Does anyone else get days like that?

I'm planning on finishing in the next thirty minutes then going out for a smoke, and I can't bloody wait! Thank God for life's smaller pleasures!

I hear you. I get up at 6, and pretty well go right to work with first coffee in hand. Sometimes I work straght until 9pm, and others I quit at 4. Making money sucks, don't you just wish for a sugar mama?

But why would the system change, when it can rely on people doing more than they have to because other depend on it?

Pisses me off tooooooo! Both my other half and me work for the same company. I'm a draftsman and she is an Office Manager, I get paid more than her and get any overtime paid at the flat rate which is bad enough. She gets considerably less than me but because she is a "Manager" she has to give her extra time gratis/free and is put upon.

The real piss off is that the company is owned by her sister who quotes "I can't treat you any more special because youre family" but is quite happy to load her up with work to do at home or phone her late at night to talk shop.
