Let's see, Rangers are pretty close to old school in most regards.
I looked through the 3rd ED FR book, and there's no Vidar among the deities. FR Deities likely to embrace a Ranger in the 3rd ED are:

Chauntea, Mielikki and Silvanus.

That's it for the nature and animal Deities these days.

Shoot there goes my double specialization in short bow and the orc to porcupine in 30 seconds party trick

Chauntea, I have never heard of before so I don't know the suitabilty to my character.

Silvanus wouldn't be appropriate being of True Neutral Alignment and as you say is more a druidic deity. (Celtic)

Mielikki to is better suited also to Druids and Bards being a Godess of Nature (Finnish)

(I read a lot of Scandinavian Folk Lore having Swedish ancestory and hence my Nickname )

Vidar - was a Norse lesser god, son of Odin and is the god of strength and silence - I know its 3rd Ed, he is most approriate to my class, alignment and ability if that is acceptable.

I think I would go with studded leather AC7 for lowest effective encumberance and use a wooden small shield (1 defence per melee round if shield modifiers and defence block count still exist) giving an effect AC6 / AC7 assuming the armor ratings haven't changed either.

Its seems so long since I played this must be nearly 6 years . sorry for being a 1st edition dinosaur, I inherited all my brothers manuals. We did try 2nd edition whilst I was at Yale, but it lacked realism in terms of socio/political structure the classes were too simplified and the combat too D&D ish which defeated the point of AD&D.

I guess this is acedemic since I figure as DM in this situation you will be making the rolls and combat is gonna be minimal.

I assume you will be rolling our stats too

PS I pick Undead as my favored enemy at lvl 1 - I assume we are all lvl 1 at the start. I forgot to mention my char is straight Human.

Hm. Orc to Porcupine Recipe, 3rd ED style:

High Dex
Weapon Focus: Bow (any type)
Rapid Shot (Fire an extra arrow/round)
Combat Reflexes (attacks of opportunity = Dex Modifier. Great for stopping Charges.)

Undead: Good Call

Oh, and armor works backwards these days. Your armor adds to your base 10 AC, and folks try to roll over that with a 20-sider.

ok, here is my character, sorry for taking so long

Name: Arlen
Class: Priestess of Sune ( Godess of Love and Passion )
Age: 25
Physical Description: redhead, blue eyes, smooth pale skin, 5´7 tall, slim figure with full C cup breasts, she wears a white robe that is low cut showing a fair amout of cleavage, the robe ends just above her knees. The symbol of Sune ( a redheaded lady ) is embroided on her robe and as a weapon she uses a whip.

I hope the character is ok, suggestions and comments are welcome.

I dont know if everyone is familiar with the goddess Sune and her followers, so I am going to posta little information so you know more about my character...

My alignment is Chaotic neutral, the reason my weapon is a whip is because that is Sune´s favored weapon.

Now a little about Sune´s Dogma: Seek to awaken love in others, Aquire beautiful items of all sorts, Let your appearence stir and delight those who look upon you. Love those who respond to your apearence.

That shouldn't be too difficult, I would imagine that there are many other caravan owners with retainers in the queue, surely Lethe could be a character from one of those. Just a thought, it seems to me like an uncontrived way of introducing a new player , but I'll go with SpectreT's judgement - it's his call .

Lethe, could I ask where you got your name? I read a book one time with that name and have loved it ever since.

'Lethe ' is from Greek mythology. It's one of the three rivers in Hades, the kingdom of the dead, and a drop it can drain someone's memory completely away. Pronounced Leeth-EE.

I use it for my character because he has in fact no name; there's a curse on him

The book I read was a vampire novel and Leethe was the name of one, well, it has been a while but I think Leethe was the saraphim in it. I just thought it was a beautiful name.

Matt is an Archer initiate, and has a well built body due to the training in the Archer's Guild. He as been sent out into the world for real-life training before he is to return to the guild and become fully accepted into it.
He wears plain pants, and a green tunic under the chainmail shirt. He also wears a blue cloak around his shoulders. His weapon is a composit long bow.
