All right, this is mainly a test to see who would actually join. If I get a couple of responses I'll post up the initial plot prompt and character rules (ie no uber-OMFG-powerful vamps cause that's no fun for everyone else).

Laurell K Hamilton's taken an interesting view on vamps and run with it for 12 books so far (she's writing the 13th now).
Her vampires are descended from different lines of a central Vamp Counsel in Europe and each line carries different powers.

For example- the line of Belle Morte runs high in sexual based powers.
Being able to feed from sexual energy. (RARE)
Bring instant lust into a "victim"
Extreme beauty (they only take the most beautiful into thier line then make them prettier)
Things of that nature.

Other lines include powers like:
Causing/feeding from fear.
Becoming a nearly unkillable rotting walking vamp (quite ewwie) (Not common)
Causing the earth to shake (rare)
Immunity to silver.
A strong bond with certain animal groups "Thier Animal to Call" like wolves, rats, bats, leopards, etc. No unicorns, dragons or iguanadons though because that's silly.

There are others and a lot left open to interpretation.

I'm think a West coast setting, will probably make up a CA city for this thread if I get enough interest.
There also lycanthropes and humans in this world, again of verying powers.

If you've questions, ask away, PM me, whichever you feel more comfy doing.
Thanks for reading *bows*

hmmm . . . Laurel K. Hamilton's books were good until it became sex novels, but interesting I guess, I was kind of hoping for a Masquerad type setting, but we'll see, after all you're the dm.

We'll start with basic backgrounding and get more elaborate later on. I reserve the right to edit any/all of this cause I just finished a 12 hour shift.

Setting:
Angel's Bay, somewhere on the Pacific Coast between LA and SF. A city to rival San Diego in size and variety, ranging from slums to million dollar high rise appartments with ocean views. Uptown is, understandaably the nicer area of town. The East side is middle class, blue coller workers, the West a mix of upscale mansions and homey wooden cottages along with historical Angel's Bay all nestled on the water front. The Downtown area low income to pure slums.
There are out laying city areas (think LA and Hollywood) but those we'll get into later.

In a sprawling mansion settled atop a sea side cliff on the outskirts of the West side is the home of the Master of the City, Rose and her kiss of vampires. Rose is a direct desendant of Belle Morte and carries many similar powers. Lately though she has grown weak as has her human servant, Lily. Rumors of another Master vamp that could steal her territory from her have made Rose paranoid and edgy to say it nicely.
While much of her kiss lives in Rose Mannor, there are those who live elsewhere in Angel's Bay, be it at thier places of buisness or other homes.

Who will gain control as the Master of the City of Angel's Bay?

Guiding characters will be my IC characters, the vagamor of the AB werewolf clan the Pethors Rokke Clan and a young looking female vamp that has seen many Masters of the City of AB. I'll have bio's up on them later.

I'm interested. I never make all powerful characters. I don't find that fun or very good for the storyline and never have. I love Laurell K. Hamilton's books. The first book, Guilty Pleasures is my favorite even though, Anita didn't have sex in it. *grr*

The main thing I don't like about the books it that the vampires and werewolves are so tightly controlled. I really chafe at that.

The only problem with the threads I've seen on here vamp wise is that there are often too many characters to keep track of and people don't actually post. The threads become chaotic, the storyline becomes hard to follow and storyline is really what it's all about.

Like I said though, I'm interested and happy to give it a try. I do lean to the Vampire the Masquerade model but I love Anita too! LOL. Even though she picked the wrong men. IMHO.

hey id love to join in if we get enuf people my roomate has the books adn i havent read them yet but im planning on it( literaly she has like 12)

Well here's my intial stuff:

Thread Background:

Three months before store start time, Rose, the Master of the City, lost her newly-found human servant (two marks) in a dual with a visiting Master Vampire (who’s now dead) and it has weakened her considerably. Add in the withdrawal of Chrys’ support and the position of MotC has been flung seemingly wide open. Rose has already fought and killed two lesser Master vampires in one on one combat though the second seemed to tax her greatly. Some of the youngest vamps of her Kiss, ones she herself had made in her already 500 year long life, have stopped waking or have sought a new master among the local Master Vampires because she no longer has the power to keep them.

The city knows little to nothing about the death of Rose’s human servant though most of the local metaphysical community knows what’s going on because what effects the vamps effects everyone else, including the area’s biggest lycanthrope group, the were-snakes, Rose’s animal to call. She’s merged different snake tribes into one group under her control, everyone from pythons to rattlers and is starting to loose that control now.

Rose’s Bio (NPC):
Age- 537
Height- 5’9”
Build- incredibly slender but graceful, like her animal
Eyes- hazel normally, yellow when her power is upon her
Hair- banded like the skin of a red-tail boa in black, gold, yellow, beige, etc and ankle length
Skin- vampire pale
Bloodline: Earthshaker
Animal to call: Snakes, was boas at first then expanded to include vipers, now all snakes heed her call

BIO: Another Europe cross over, came looking for her own territory and found it on the West Coast. Moderately powerful though most of her abilities are grand flashy things, not necessarily lifesaving in a fight. Won the position of MotC 50 years ago after the previous master went a little crazy after his human servant was in a car accident that gave her brain damage. Even giving her servant the third mark could not heal her and so now Rose's energy is being siphoned off by her useless human servant and she can't stop it without risking her own death.

All else will be explained IC as needed or in PM’s. IC explinations will come from my two characters, Chrys and Verdandi (Bio's in next post).

So, in that spirit, post up characters if you like. Preferably no one over a 1000 and I'll be giving secret (if you want to keep it that way) weakness to people. Stronger or more crazy your powers, the stranger/stronger your weakness will be.

IE- immunity to silver will mean you've a vulnerability to mind control spells like lust or fear. Not that they'll always work but there's a good chance of it.

Verdandi & Chrys

Verdandi Darlington:
Vargamor of the Pethors Rokke Pack
Age- 34
Height- 5’7”
Build- willowy, slender
Eyes- Green, like new spring leaves or grass
Hair- ebony with a silver stripe across the forehead, hip length
Skin- honey colored, as if someone took a bottle of clover honey and tinted her skin with it at birth

BIO: Verdandi was born in a small town, growing up among a reclusive community of those society would not accept as equal. Lycanthropes, psychics, witches and more found their homes in the tiny community nestled in the mountains about 4 hrs drive from Angel’s Bay. Her father was Ulfric of the local W.W. pack, her mother his human Lupa until after Verdandi was born. Her mother was a hedge witch, powerful enough to be the vargamor of the pack even after she became a W.W..
Grew up surrounded by her home pack and its members before leaving for collage at 18. She attended the University of California Angel’s Bay and loved the area enough to set up her home there. Has a degree in meta-physical medicine and is a doctor at the city’s only “non-human” hospital. Heads its inpatient unit with a cool intelligence and wit.
Is immune to lycanthropy for some unknown reason, though this is not widely known. Comes in hand though considering she works with and on lycanthropes as well as the city’s magic users.
Verdandi is a devout follower of Odin and Freya, the God and Goddess of the Norse parathion. Her home on the outskirts of the west side is on the land next to the pack’s meeting place, its Lupinar.
Her powers are very earth based- healing, growing plants, and bringing life to others.

My Vamp-
Chrysanthix aka Chrys
Age- unknown, estimated to be at least over 1,000
Height- 5’4”
Build- curvy and lush
Eyes- deep blue-violet, shifts from one to the other depending on her mood/power calling
Hair- Deep, dark red; shoulder length
Skin- vampire pale
Bloodline: Belle Morte
Animal to call: wolves, coyotes, foxes
BIO: Not much is known about Chrysanthix other then she has been in Angel’s Bay since its founding in 1902. While obviously of European decent, her country of origin is unknown. She carries no accent, no identifying mark and when asked will only say that she spent some time in France, is of Belle Morte’s bloodlines and will say nothing beyond that of her time before coming to AB.
Usually soft spoken, but very powerful and strong, she has been the second of the AB Masters of the City since there was a Master of the City. She stays out of power struggles, almost as if she doesn’t care who leads, as long as its not her. It has been theorized that she keeps second place so no one can mess with her yet she doesn’t have to lead anyone.
She controls canines as her animal to call, having gained the foxes within the last 15 years. Her ties to the AB pack are very strong and many full moons find her out running with the pack itself, as if she were one of their own and not a vampire. They serve her because of mutual respect and love and would not take kindly to another vampire trying to control or call them, assuming thenew vamp could override Chrys’ call.
She possesses the ability to inflict harm at a distance but any other abilities she may have are unknown.

I would love to join with this group. Please let me know what your up to. I have read all the LKH books, Obsidian Butterfly being my fav. Looks like fun, let me know.

Well counting you and Arc-sama, that's two Tremen Hall (is it okay to call you TH for short?).

But I'm willing to start and drag other in later on if they like. Post up characters if you'd like and I'll get the first IC post up soon after that.

So.. Is this thread totally dead, cause for something almost three months old it looks interesting as all hell. My girlfriend and I are reading the Anita Blake books. I got her into it. heh. We even met LKH at a Book signing for the Release of Incubus Dreams. It was pretty cool. In anyevent, if this is still on going or people are interested in something else like it please let me know. i would love to play. i would run, but would much rather play...

Too busy to run this right now, hell I barely keep up with the Chateau thread I'm in.
But I wouldn't mind handing over the rest of my notes and my general plot line script I've got concepted to someone else.

Any room for a human weapons maker? See myself as a shop keeper or weapons guy.

Hi, I don't know much about the LKH background, but if that isn't a problem, i'm interested. I like the idea of being either a werewolf, or possibly the Causing/feeding on fear vamp.

Well at least there is still interest!

Jagged I'm not sure how well a human weaponsmaker would fit into the mix... honestly. Ghost, it's a great series. You should seriously consider reading it. Especially if your into thus kinda stuff. At least check out the first one, Guilty Pleasures.

If Vixandra wants to send me her notes I'll get started asap. If not I can try and work something of my own up but it may take a little longer. Let me know.

if i was in this i would see myself as they guy who gets killed off fairly quickly Where do i sign up? (im not stupid it's a figure of speech)

I've done some White Wolf vamire-ing in my time, so I might be interested. I'd have to do a bit of research first into this LKH and her vamps

All the vamps are tightly controlled in LKH books in each city, by the Master of Vamps. This person also has some control of most if not all, of the were creatures.

You really should read the first book at least Guilty Pleasures. It's really good, funny, full of action and in later books sex.

However this above control thing really bothers me. I don't like that one aspect.

I love funny books with great sarcastic kick ass female characters!!!

Fury :rose:

All I am asking is a little time to review stuff, and come up with some thing interesting for you all. I'm thinking by at least the middle of next week I should have something for you all... if the cold I'm coming down with doesn't kick my ass...

((Your going to have to excuse me. There's a lot going on in my life right now and I'm going to have to gracefully bow out. Permanantly. I'm sorry. -Dreamer))

Interested newbie

Am a total newbie to ORP, (only RL RP experience was a long time back in college, in the days when D&D was almost the only thing on radar). Only know the LKH books by reputation, though I'm sure to fix that soon, in any event! Certainly don't feel competent to take over the running of such a thing, and it seems we are presently stalled where that's concerned? But quite interested if you'll have me and totally uninterested in being all powerful or otherwise a spoiler -- just want to play a sexy vampiress!

Just ordered a half-dozen from the series (the 1st four, plus Narcissus in Chains and Cerulean Sins) -- it shouldn't be a loss in any case.
