OMG! Gays Can Marry Again In CA!

I always wondered why judges decisions were so long. Now I know. They cite every piece of evidence presented and every legal argument. Makes sense. Thanx, kid.

I especially like the part where he describes each of the witnesses and tells why they were creditable-- or not.

I really love the way the defendants claimed that all of the witnesses they had boasted about were "afraid" to testify because there had been talk of the hearings being broadcast, and these experts did not want their names to be disclosed to the public. The court notes that the request to broadcast had been denied, and defendants had not gotten in touch with any of these witnesses after that. Plaintiffs included two of the defense witness's statements, both of them saying that gay marriage was a GOOD thing-- and why.

Defence witnesses had no credibility, for example;
Miller’s credibility was further undermined because the opinions he offered at trial were inconsistent with the opinions he expressed before he was retained as an expert. Specifically, Miller previously wrote that gays and lesbians, like other minorities, are vulnerable and powerless in the initiative process, see PX1869 (Kenneth Miller, Constraining Populism: The Real Challenge of Initiative Reform, 41 Santa Clara L Rev 1037 (2001)), contradicting his trial testimony that gays and lesbians are not politically vulnerable with respect to the initiative process. Miller admitted that at least some voters supported Proposition 8 based on anti-gay sentiment. Tr 2606: 11-2608: 18.

For the foregoing reasons, the court finds that Miller’s opinions on gay and lesbian political power are entitled to little weight and only to the extent they are amply supported by reliable evidence.

Why would a Lady wear a Dinner Jacket ?
Is it some form of Fashion statement ?
Miss Manners reminds us that a sports jacket is far too casual for a wedding, after all...

I like to wear a Hawaiian shirt under mine, though. I like to look merry and gay. ;)

Gentlemen, if you want to discuss the California governor's race, please give a thread separate from this one--preferably on the GB.

This one is for celebrating the restoration of gay marriage in CA.

My apologies. I haven't been on this forum long, and appreciate your guidance.

I'm afraid that I just rose to the bait a little quickly. I'll be more careful in the future.

Perfectly understandable. Welcome to the AH--as you can see there are a few trolls wandering about. Nature of the forum beast I'm afraid. Thank you for being so refreshingly courteous. I hope we can give you some really interesting and fun threads to follow. There's a lot of awesome and brilliant folk here.

Canapé?

WOW! That gave me little goose bumps! :cattail:
I'm sure I'm not the first to image her singing that "Ah ha, ah hahaha..." bit bouncing gaily on my erect penis.

eta: well, maybe I'm the first imagining MY erect penis, but you get the gist...

A lot of breaking hearts tonight. A lot of people dared to get their hopes up just for a moment.

Keep the faith, everyone. We shall overcome, and all that. But really, when the window opens again, let's not have so much hesitation, hmm? Those 18,000 could easily have been 118,000 but people got complacent. Who'd have thought that the very tide that swept Obama into office would also be the one that passed Prop 8?

And I'd been on schedule to make the dead lines. I had five of the hardest phone calls in the world today. I am so sorry for them.

Jeeezuz, bear.

marriage should NOT be rushed into.

Not for hets, not for same sex couples.

Hesitation is not a matter of complacency.

Making the decision to commit to someone is not a thing we do for political reasons.

You were able to marry exactly when you saw fit to do it, no sooner or later. What a privilege!

I had a few of those today too. I guess I'm not going to buy a tux this year after all. :(

The worst was that they all wanted me to take the money anyways. I flatly refused and have assured them fittings and wardrobe is on the house next time.
