OMG! Gays Can Marry Again In CA!

Oh, come on. After waiting two years, especially when they could have gotten married two years ago, what's another week? Most engagements are longer than that.

And I can sympathize with them for having had to wait this long, but I still think another week is no big deal, especially when they are already living together, which I presume they are.
I can only assume that you really don't know how offensive you are.

Have you ever been tested for Aspergers? Most people who know that they are on that side of the spectrum, learn how to take a little extra care of other people's feelings. A lot of people who don't know they are in the autistic spectrum will not understand why people think they are unfeeling pieces of shit.

Maybe you were hit on the head as a child?

What does autism have to do with anything?

I know that sounds less than approving but believe me, I'd rather see same sex unions stay firmly approved in California than risk losing that so as to get a wider ruling at this time.
Actually, I don't think you're chicken at all. I think you may be right. As I recall--correct me someone if I'm wrong--most of the states where gay marriage is legal require you be a resident of that state. But CA does not. So anyone can come here and be legally married. That, as I recall, was the big fuss that led to Prop. 8 because if anti-gay-marriage folk didn't stop it in CA, any gay person in the country could be legally married here, then go back to their own state where the marriage would, by law, have to be recognized.

Which means that the whole wall starts to crumble from just that. Yes?

Hey! VM and I resemble that remark! We're only unfeeling. And only toward other people. We have great empathy for our pets. :D

And plants! I have a hard time killing any perennial or cutting down a tree. I've had to, sometimes, but only after much soul-searching.

Great News for AmiCoot and JBJ......

You cant marry me till the 18th, and by then I expect the Supremes will crap in our punchbowl. So get a job, buy me a nice house, and I want a serious cash performance bond from you cuz I sure as shit dont buy any of your trash talk.

I also am kind of amazed that they are all calling him one of those liberal, activist judges... especially considering that he was nominated by Saint Ronald Regan and that his nomination was confirmed under Bush senior.

His nomination under Reagan was actually assailed by the Dems because he was too conservative. *grin*

That's only five days from now, including a weekend. The only time I ever heard of SCOTUS acting that fast was an urgent matter of national interest. Same sex marriage is not really a big deal, except for the persons involved. They've already ruled against DOMA, and I can't see them changing their minds on this one.

I expect the Supremes will show their hand one way or the other. If they decide not to get involved its a strong hint they'll let Californians decide...and thats already happened. If they do get involved its a strong hint a lotta lavender dreams are gonna become nightmares, especially if they stay Walkers order.

Remember! Back in January Obama and the Usual Suspects used the State of the Union Assembly to piss on the Supremes, and some of them arent happy.

I'd say Jerry Brown is probably toast.

It isn't National security or nothing, but it's part of the founding principles of this nation.

This one may be over. The judge's decision seems strongly to imply that only the State, not the private defendants, are qualified to appeal and neither the AG nor the Governator has any intention of doing so. Yeah, it might eventually work its way up to SCOTUS but that will be through tortuous legal channels and take years. Maybe we won . . . for good. :D

Latest from Judge Walker

The federal judge who overturned California's same-sex marriage ban has more bad news for the measure's backers: He doubts they have the right to challenge his ruling that gay couples can begin marrying next week....he's not sure the proponents have the authority to appeal since they would not be affected by or responsible for implementing his ruling.

By contrast, same-sex couples are being denied their constitutional rights every day they are prohibited from marrying, Walker said.

The ban's backers "point to harm resulting from a 'cloud of uncertainty' surrounding the validity of marriages performed after judgment is entered but before proponents' appeal is resolved," he said. "Proponents have not, however, argued that any of them seek to wed a same-sex spouse."

...They argued the appeals court should grant a stay of Walker's order requiring state officials to cease enforcing Proposition 8 "to avoid the confusion and irreparable injury that would flow from the creation of a class of purported same-sex marriages."...
HAHAHAHA! Hoisted by their own petards! "Oh, you can't let 'em marry before appeal is resolved! Imagine the 'injury' that would flow from the creation of these same-sex marriages..."

So, you're saying that you want to marry a same-sex spouse and, hence, KNOW how irreparable the injury would be?

I mean, come on! This sooo pisses me off! "Same-sex marriage will harm us heteros!" BUT the only reason we want everyone to wait for an appeal is because we don't want those poor gays under a cloud of confusion about their marriage. Yeah, right. You've so much fucking sympathy for gays.

Judge Walker for higher office! That dude is my kind of Conservative just like Linda (pistol-packin' Congresswoman) Sanchez is my kind of liberal Democrat. If more politicians were like them, this country would be a lot more fun. :D

A little less embarrassing, certainly.

If you are interested in reading a pretty clear explanation of what problems the "defendants" are going to be facing in regards to their "standing" in front of the 9th Circuit / Supreme Court and what it means to be an "intervenor" vs. a true defendant, you might want to read this post.

Bottom line, the Pro-Prop 8 crowd may be deeply and eternally screwed!

BTW, it is written by an attorney who actually understands all of these things (and who just happens to be a dyke married to a woman that is a few months preggers)

AHNULD AND MOONBEAM swore to uphold the California Constitution. But enjoy the delicious delusions while they last.

JBJ, welcome to the party! I was wondering when you'd show. As you know, just about everyone on this thread has you on ignore and can't read or care about what you think, but hey, have a glass of champagne and feel free express yourself to yourself.

Canapes are coming out people! Enjoy!
