Oggbashan is MIA

I posted a song on the Listening thread a little while back, and its lyrics are what we should do in Ogg's memory:

Ring out the past, his name lives on and on,
Roll out the bones and raise up your pitcher ...
Raise up your glass.

News:-

I have received a letter from Ogg's wife who informs me that Ogg died on the 30th May, peacefully at home with his family.
His funeral is scheduled for 14-07-23 at 15:20hrs. His daughter Kate is investigating the possibility of live-streaming this event.

May he rest in Peace.
See you on here then ^^ for a send off (or as close as possible given timezones)

Vale.

I’m saddened to hear this news, even though it was not unexpected. There comes a day we all have to go, but I suck at letting go of anything and it always feels like too soon.

Rest in peace, Ogg, or as we say: keveät mullat.

Ogg was a lead by example person, quietly pointing the way to handle ourselves online when we (myself included) got too cranky.

I never bothered with the politics board, but I was glad to see that even ogg’s patience had limits with some of the opinions to be found on the political board. So he was human after all. And that was nice to see too.

May we all aspire to be as admired when our time comes as Ogg. Rest in peace, Ogg

When I read the words, "what we should do in Ogg's memory", my immediate thought was "Get back to work on that story."

Never personally communicated with him but enjoyed all of his posts. He wasn't afraid to make his opinion known and I admired him for that.

Yes, may he rest in peace.
This is indeed the end of an era.

Thank you for letting us know!

Thank you for letting everyone know.

Ogg has been a part of this community for almost as long as Laurel and I have, and we're heartbroken by the news of his death.

As someone said earlier in this thread, Ogg is a major presence at Lit, and not just for his fiction and forum posts. Ogg's personality and sense of humor made us smile every time we interacted with him.

One anecdote that comes to mind is that while many Lit old timers (those who joined in the late 1990s or early 2000s) chastised us for updating Literotica to the new mobile friendly design, Ogg reached out with a lengthy private encouragement. He told us that we must bring Lit into the future even though it was sure to annoy people like him. He warned that we risked becoming irrelevant to future readers without taking action. He encouraged us to not just update the design, but to re-imagine Lit for phones and other modern devices. He also let us know that his advice wasn't purely selfless, he wanted to make sure that his work would live on for readers long after he was gone. We were encouraged and motivated by his supportive advice at the time, though the idea that he may be gone someday didn't seem possible back then.

Every Lit author means something to us, but there are authors we work with so often and for so long that we develop a closer relationship. We've never met Ogg in person, but somehow it felt like we were old friends (at least to us, we don't know how he felt).

We've been following his fight against cancer and rooting for him for so long, and he outlived so many predictions by doctors, we wanted to believe he would always be here. Knowing that we'll never get another message from Ogg, never publish another Ogg story, never read another new post from him, and never actually have a chance to meet in person brings us to tears. I hope he knew how much he meant to us and to so many people here at Lit. We'll do our best to make sure that he won't be forgotten as long as Lit is around.

Condolences to Ogg's wife, family, friends, fellow authors, and readers. We love you Ogg, and we thank you very much for spending more than 20 years of your life as part of our extended family.
I’ve been on Lit probably since the early/mid 2000s before formally joining up, and I remember Oggbashan being very welcoming and generous with his time. He certainly had a quirky sense of humor!

I know his health was failing for quite a while, and I wish I’d have gotten to know him a bit better.

Rest in peace to one of the last remaining members of the old guard! And condolences to his family.

Sad news. I didn't know him well but Ogg and I swapped a few brief notes over time and he was always good about sending me "thank you" notes when I commented on his stories. Rest in peace, Sir.

I saw the Heroes tribute and have started a story for that but have serious doubts that my current schedule will allow me to complete it in time for the tribute. If not, I'll note it in his memory when it's finally published.

Thank you for posting this, sorrowful though it is, Handley.

I have commented on some of his posts, always knowing that there was an intelligent, thoughtful man behind the statements on which I was commenting. I never communicated with him directly, though, and I now regret that I never tried harder to do so.

I am glad that fate had given him far more years than he'd originally expected. He paid for those years with diminishing faculties and increasing pain, it seems, but I never got the impression that he didn't think the results weren't worth the candle.

I can only hope that my own passage, whenever it comes, will be with as much grace and dignity has his had been.

I think that Ogg considered every day of his life after his first diagnosis of cancer as an undeserved gift, an extension of his life span that came as a bonus. I've known other people who had that attitude after they survived a catastrophe that should have killed them. It's not a bad way to view life.

Thanks, Ogg, wherever you are.

Yes, I remember when he was first diagnosed and he didn't think he had that long to go. In the end, he had a lot of extra years to enjoy, and he certainly seemed to enjoy that time here, writing the stories he loved and posting on the boards here. We chatted off and on offline, and by email, and he was a lovely guy, always helpful, and I'd like to remember him the way I wrote him up in one of my stories - it was pretty funny chatting with him about how to portray him. He's one of those guy's we'll all remember up until it's our turn to shuffle off this mortal coil. For now, god bless, Ogg, and I look forward to going monster hunting in the next incarnation.

Sad news indeed. A good man, a staple on Literotica and a talented storyteller. May he rest in peace.

For those that may have missed this on another thread

RIP, Ogg. One of the mainstays of Lit.; always a gentleman, which is not easy to do at Lit.; a unique personality; and an inspiration for us all in his fight for life. I just saw the latter part of this thread as I'm having a health journey of my own.
Sorry to hear that - best wishes for you and yours.
