Looking over various free web hosts, trying to find a single web host that has the combination of features I need/want (Linux hosting while allowing "adult" content), I read this on http://www.web1000.com/acceptable.htm
# Materials that are not constitutionally protected (i.e. obscene materials). Obscene material includes anything that would be obscene in San Jose, California or in the jurisdiction you are located in. Although this is not a complete list, some of the things that often qualify as obscene include the depiction of defecation, bestiality, rape, or murder.
I know what they mean, but if a person was to read that literally, then quite a number of movies made in Hollyweird would be considered "obscene" just a few hundred miles north in San Jose. I can think of a number of R-rated, even G-rated movies that in one way or another depict rape or murder. Indeed some cartoons depict murder.
I post this because it just goes to show how non-sensical and prudish we still are in this country. Of course, Europe has its own forms of censorship, just on different issues. In Germany and France they have laws against Neo-Nazi publications, etc. - in the UK songs critical of the government have been banned there.
The internet seems to be the last bastion of truly free speech, and even here we have huge problems, especially when it comes to "obscene" content.
