Obama's speech on race

So you are saying the government has never been involved in drug running, prison buliding, or the three strikes law? And to point this out is anti-American.

Let's be grown ups here. George Washington didn't chop down a cherry tree. The U.S. government at this very moment, on a whim, invaded Iraq and has killed thousands upon thousands of Iraqi citizens. Not such much has one single person had anything to do with 9/11. The U.S. government in it's long term history has engaged in human slavery and genocide. In it's recent history we engage in rape, torture, secret prisons, etc.

Spare me the platitudes and the calls for proof of U.S. misdeeds at home and abroad.

If you want to be a "grown up" then act like one and provide some backing for your position. You asked me to and I did. I merely asked the same of you.

Since you are either unable or unwilling to back up your argument that the US has pushed drugs to black people to arrest and incarcerate them, I don't think there is anything left to discuss.

The CIA/Ricky Ross connection, crack cocaine sentencing laws, etc. If you are implying that a bunch of guys sat in a smoke filled room one night and conspired? No that did not happen. Has the government facillated drugs entering into the U.S. knowing that they would be distributed in minority nieghborhoods where many people would eventually be arrested and incarerated for the same drugs. Yes.

There is only one racist running for president. We need a president the serves the whole population not just promoting the black community. I found Rev. Whright so very offensive. Obama was married in that church, baptised his kids there and has kept the Reverend as a close friend and advisor, and we are not supposed to believe that he hasn't surrounded himself with the same spewing hatred of our country, and the rest of the citizens living here. I have been a strong democratic supporter for years, but this takes the cake.

Well there's more than one racist or racially scared poster in this thread - that's for sure.

"There's only one racist running for president."

Well, that's definitely the words of a racially scared person. Obama is the antithesis of a racist - he has run his entire campaignn on the notion that he's not running as a black candidate - but running simply as a candidate. He has not run a traditionally "black" campaign (and I shiver even as I make that statement that has been used so often because it simply reinforces stereotypes and feelings of identity politics). To not only imply but outright state that Obama is a racist means that you have viewed his campaign from a myopic and already darkened lens - darkened by your own misperceptions and fear. Further, it indicates that you either: (1) didn't read or hear his speech; or (2) if you did, you only heard what you wanted and didn't digest the importance or the statements contained within.

"We need a president the serves the whole population not just promoting the black community."

Pray tell, what in the world has Obama done to say he's simply going to be "promoting the black community." The ONLY basis you have for saying this is because Obama is multiracial/half-black. It's the ONLY basis - which demonstrates that the racial bias is coming from within and is skewing your perspective. Obama has run his campaign and his policies are so far from race-based. If anything it is a total revolution in the way the Democratic party is dealing with social issues - truly from a socioeconomic perspective without racial pandering. I find it remarkable that it is our first real "black" candidate running for President who has refused to pander on racial lines. And yet, those like you - the reason minorities will ALWAYS have trouble running for political office - is because no matter what they do you will think they are only there to promote their own "minority" (whatever that minority might be) agenda - or their own "minority" (whatever that minority might be) community. Obama is not even my candidate and I strongly support Hillary Clinton - but you are so off the mark on what he stands for (and I believe 100% that he is sincere when he says what he stands for).

"I have been a strong democratic supporter for years"

Obviously you never knew what was at the social and ideological core of our party with your above statements that are so gilded with racial misunderstanding and minority bias.

I do not think that the CIA/Ricky Ross connection sufficiently supports your argument. Thank you for posting it because at least I now understand why you agree with rev. wright even if I do not.

Did Kerry or anyone actual prove the swiftboat charges to be wrong? I haven't seen any sources yet so would be glad if someone has them.

This kind of bullshit quite literally makes my blood boil.

You do realize that that same organization was the one that spewed all the hate in South Carolina against the now-beloved McCain that McCain became mentally unstable while a POW in Hanoi. Same organization that said McCain had a multiracial love child (actually an Asian orphan adopted by he and his wife) and the organization who said that McCain's wife was somewhat insane.

Same organization that tried to say that Max Cleland was not patriotic enough and likened him to Bin Laden in commercials. Max Cleland - a man who lost limbs in Vietnam.

Same organization - all rooting for Bush and/or the Repubs- under the hands of Rove.

But, the thing that makes my blood boil is the hypocrisy of the right when it comes to these things. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama always laud McCain for his service to our country. In fact, the Democrats always laud all former Veterans for the service.

But the party that screams patriotism and decries its political opponents as unpatriotic and helpful to the terrorists is the party that will absolutely denigrate any former soldier or veteran if it is their political opponent.

Shows you which party truly does have the respect required and deserved for our former and present servicemen - doesn't it?

I will never get why the Republican party is still so supported among veterans and the military. Because it's the Republicans who routinely shit upon them - routinely. Don't support VA hospitals, don't provide living income, routinely fuck veterans on benefits - of all varieties.

In fact, those three senators (Graham, Lieberman, and McCain) who are over there in Iraq oppose the most recent bill to assist our troops/veterans.

The hypocrisy is truly indefensible.

So shut the fuck up about your Swift Boat Vets thing - because the fact is it was so ludicrous that it shouldn't have warrant rebuttal or comment and yet people like you buy their bullshit hook, line, and sinker. You do not benefit yourself with these stupid posts - you just demonstrate your ignorance.

If you think the CIA are a bunch of Girl Scouts who sell cookies door to door to fund their illegal operations you are sadly mistaken. The CIA has participated in all sorts of atrocities. A little bit a drug dealing would be the least of thier crimes.

Yes, poor Uncle Adolf said a lot of hateful things about jews and gays. But so did my ole grandma. They've both been good to me so I say to you, I hold them both equally in my heart.

A surefire way to make sure people know that you are complete irrational! Just bring up Hitler - should be a quick way for all to make a mental note that all your synapses aren't working correctly.

One of the most troubling things about the right is it's almost complete lack of a sense of proportion.

They shrug off centuries of discrimination against blacks as an historical irrelevancy, while howling blue blazes at the slightest incident of black hatred directed towards whites.

They accept massive fraud and waste on the part of the military industrial complex, but pop a blood vessel at the thought that some poor person somewhere might get a welfare check they don't deserve.

They ignored decades of hate filled white preachers spitting invective at liberals, at women, at gays, but they are shocked! shocked! to hear the abominations coming from Jeremiah Wright.

But, of course, none of it has anything to do with race.

Hot damn.

So when we start throwing around terms like hate speech let's make sure what real hate speech is and what it isn't.

No shit.

I'm starting to realize that a guy like Obama is the worst possible nightmare for some very bigoted, cowardly and narrow-minded people, and I admit, I get a really warm, fuzzy feeling inside knowing that their way of thinking will at last only have relevance in the land of AM radio...

Well said.

when are you running? ;)

So he proposed no solutions, but still managed to propose that what we need is what you think caused the problem in the first place, more big government.

Which is it, Ish? Did he propose something, or didn't he? You can't have it both ways.

Point taken, if you subscribe to an increase in government intervention in the lives of the citizen as a solution.

And to address another point you brought up in another post about him 'reaching back' and tugging at the roots of the racial problem. Do you know where he got that? It's right out of Ward Connerly sigh and over a decade old.

The corporate greed mantra is the same old line we've heard for years. Each generation has it's Enron, and that Enron is held up as an example of all of corporate america. The irony was that both Enron and Arthur Anderson were gone within weeks of the disclosure and it took the government a year to get around to doing anything, after the fact. In other words the punishment meted out by the very corporate america, the market, was swift and final. Corporate america does a pretty good job cleaning it's own house.

Race was NOT an issue in this campaign until Rev. Wright came upon the stage. The lame attempts of the Clintons in NH and S. Car. were quickly stomped on, as well they should have been. It has now become and issue due to Obamas long standing association with a racial bigot (No, the Rev. can't be called a true racist.), and a subscriber to the most outrageous conspiracy theories. A man who distorts history for his own agenda.

And to reiterate, no quesitons were answered and no solutions given. His summation on racial relations has all been said before, there was nothing new there. No great revelation. There were a couple of very well written, and delivered, lines in the speech that could be called uplifting, virtually nullified by other portions of his speech. He gave no compelling reason for his having maintained an association with Rev. Wright for 20 years.

If you were to ask me, I'd say that Obama maintained the association for political reasons. Rev. Wrights church was the largest and most politically powerful church on the south side of Chicago. Obama came there as a young, well educated, man interested in politics. Much like joining the 'right' club. But he can't say that.

The LIBS on this board all had orgasms over this

Too bad there isnt one ounce of truth to it

The SWIFT BOAT VETS

have been after Kerry since 1973............They have been saying the SAME THING ABOUT Kerry since 1973.................longe befoer Bush, Rove, Cleland et all

Kerry STILL hasnt released all his records as he promised he would in 2004

When challenged by T Boone Pickens, with a $1 million to charity to prove ONE ITEM if untruth about what the SWIFT BOAT guys said

Kerry COULDNT!

You PUKES keep believeing in you FAIRY tale

*grinning* Yes, Q, in this (as you often do) you hit the nail directly on the head.

Not quite SIGH

Lets examine

He "said"

One of the most troubling things about the right is it's almost complete lack of a sense of proportion.

They shrug off centuries of discrimination against blacks as an historical irrelevancy, while howling blue blazes at the slightest incident of black hatred directed towards whites.

No one shrugs off anything, that is why laws were enacted, affirmative action, set asides etc...........Votinng Rights Act etc.......saying SHRUG OFF is IGNORANCE

They accept massive fraud and waste on the part of the military industrial complex, but pop a blood vessel at the thought that some poor person somewhere might get a welfare check they don't deserve. No one accepts MASSIVE FRAUD that we know about. Does fraud happen? SURE? Is it allowed to go on knowingly? Of course not! Are some upset at Welfare fraud? Why shouldnt they? Are some upset that GENERATIONS of the same family are on welfare? SURE! They should be!

They ignored decades of hate filled white preachers spitting invective at liberals, at women, at gays, but they are shocked! shocked! to hear the abominations coming from Jeremiah Wright.

The White hate filled Preachers are of a BY GONE ERA, Where they around today, and outed, they would be VILLIFIED. Whereas the Balck hatefilled preachers are THE NORM

But, of course, none of it has anything to do with race

So you see SIGH, what the DISEASED DICK DANGLER wrote is paranoia.

But as a FAG, he is like what BLACKS are,

PARANOID, and expects EVERYTHING for them without giving anything

SCREW THEM BOTH!

SIGH

Why the applause for the DISEASED DICK DANGLER?

When he talks of YESTERYEAR?

Yesteryears failures have BEEN attempted to be FIXED

Why NO condemnation of this?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080320...pastor_dc_1;_ylt=AnLkVGqO6luP6h_QH0jbyI0E1vAI

The HYPOCRACY is obvious

But its on the OTHER side where you see it

You at least have some sense of fairness and proportion, others on the board dont and indeed MAKE UP OUTRIGHT LIES

As LOONEY LAV did about the SWIFT BOAT guys

SIGH

Since you are one of the very few LIBS on LIT worthy of respect

I havent ever seen you post outright lies and bigoted comments

(funny how LIBS get get PURPLE with outrage at some bigoted comments have ZERO problem with shitting on Christians, Mormons, "Rednecks" etc)

Since you are one the very few that actually listens to all sides

I suggest

You read

BAM's "speech" at the 04 Convention

and Reread the "speech" he just gave

NOW THAT IS HYPOCRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Magic Negro goes Puff...

All I know is that Romney had to give a speech on religion, and that was the beginning of the end. By all accounts O'bama gave a FINE speech that was supposed to be about religion but instead was about race. But this race wasn't supposed to be about race...

Instead Baba O'Reilly decided it was time for him to take up the pulpit and tell us words don't mean things, it's the sound and fury that's important...

Out here in the fields,
I fought for my meals,
I get my back into my living,
We don't need to fight,
To prove we're right,
I don't need to be forgiven...

No shit.

I'm starting to realize that a guy like Obama is the worst possible nightmare for some very bigoted, cowardly and narrow-minded people, and I admit, I get a really warm, fuzzy feeling inside knowing that their way of thinking will at last only have relevance in the land of AM radio...

YOU need to go hang out at a blue-collar bar where all the Democrat Union Workers hang out...

They're hearing this too and having all their doubts and fears about Barry Hussein Osama confirmed...

;) ;)

Typical leftist bullshit. If you disagree with their myopic, touchy-feely world view, you're a bigoted, homophobic, racist asshole.

Obama as an instrument of change indeed.

His speech started out with promise, and then ended with the same leftist prescriptions we've been subjected to for the past 80 years.

"Uh, that welfare thing didn't work too well, did it?"

"No, it sure didn't."

"Well, what do you want to do now?"

"Let's do it agian."

"Good idea."

What would happen to a WHITE guy that said this?

When the DISEASED DICK DANGLER said no sense of proportion

He was right

Its the FAGS and FREAKS of the LEFT that dont have it

You all wont CLICK the link for fear of what you will see and hear

But you will scream

FALWELL, ROBERTSON!
