It's a great title and a fun read, but IMHO, it needed a good editing. There are a fair number of minor mistakes (stiff for stuff) and that may have spoiled it for some folks.

I have completed an Incest story for the first time. It is a 'First Time' Incest - 'Virgin's Sister'.

I will be more interested than usual in the response. Incest aficionados are supposed to produce more reads in a short time than any other category but whether they will for a story by Og?

I'll have to wait and see.

I've got some "view" figures you might find interesting if not particularly enlightening. My one contest story, like your fifth(!), is in the incest category. It's the second chapter of a "maybe so-maybe not" eight part series.

Chapter one, which is not in the contest, has gotten approximately 51K views, 11 public comments, and over 300 votes. About 99% came when it was on the "New" list.

Chapter two, my contest entry, was the one posted in 105 minutes after being submitted. That meant it showed up while chapter one was still on the "New" list. So far it's gotten about 54K views, 9 public comments, and 250 votes. Since dropping off the "New" list, those numbers have changed little.

So for what it's worth, the contest entry got more views, fewer votes and two fewer public comments. Both stories have about the same score.

Just a note that those figures are MUCH better than my last incest story "Burying Uncle Hiram's Ghost" which was more about love overcoming the trauma of child molestation than incest. But because the subject was ticklish, I asked Laurel to pick a category and she decided to put it in Incest since the couple in love were cousins. I was kind of proud of that story, but the readers buried Uncle Hiram's ghost all over again. To date it's picked up only 37 votes and barely gotten over 8K reads.

Voting is curious.
My sig advertised NND entry has 37k views 120 votes. Most received while on the new list.
My Incest NND story, not advertised on sig line, has 43k views 170 votes BUT 40 of those votes came after it dropped off the new list and with less that 5k views. At the risk of 'trolling' its average has improved since coming off the new list.
Alta Ego's non-erotic languishes on 9 votes off 2k views, it either gets 5's or 1's!

I have over 80 stories submitted (including my alter ego).

Only one, 'Breastfeeding Class', has more than 100 votes.

At the end of April and the first two weeks of May I submitted 10 chapters of a Fantasy story. Ch.01 had 15 votes and 4040 views. Ch.02 to Ch.10 range from 6 votes down to 2 and views from 2600 to 900. Only Ch.01 scored over the 10 votes to appear in a top list.

In June I wrote two more Fantasy Stories, 'Brigit' and 'Brigit Too'. The first has 58 votes and is on 4.83 with 4631 views; 'Too' has 22 votes on 4.82 with 2474 views. Both are high on the Sci Fi/Fantasy Top List.

My Nude Day entries (in chronological order of submission):

I have given up trying to understand the how and why of voting. I would like more votes, more views. I have reduced the length of stories both by cutting back the verbiage and breaking into logical chapters but...

Is it fair to assume that most of that is because of the category? I don't have anything that is in incest, my erotic horror story has incest in it but... it's horror really. Am I correct in assuming that something in Horror is just plain less likely to garner much attention or is it just me?

I have just had a look at your list of stories.

I think you could be more inventive with your subtitles. There is a 'How To' about titling. If a title is more attractive with the right keywords it attracts views. Whether those views turn into votes depends on the story.

For horror - the subtitle should hint at the thrill/threat.

I'm as bad. I noticed you have put my story 'Donna' on your favorite list. I'm flattered but that title shows that I know how NOT to do it. A name tells the potential reader nothing except their own associations. The reader might know a Donna who is wonderful - a potential reader; or a Donna who is a boring nerd - a turn off.

The title and subtitle sell the story. My Earth Day entries 'Hedgehog Feud' and 'Ancient Liberties' showed the power of a different title.

Try rethinking the title when you have finished a story. What would attract you to it?

I'm horrible about naming things, I really always have been. Or sometimes the title is entirely too clever and tied into the story. Like The Ends was sort of a short version of the guiding principle of the piece of The Ends Justifies The Means.

I kind of caught on towards the end of the series that I should explain the content better than just what I'd named the chapters. I have this published on another site and you have to give the chapters names, so that's what I was throwing in there. I'm planning on re-editing the chapters and when I resubmit them as edited I'll change up the descriptions a bit, thanks for the tip

I just don't know that I can see myself naming any of my stories, "Cum on My Mother" or somesuch. I'm guessing those attract votes, etc, but I don't know, I guess I'm just self-defeating that way.

Yes, female authors get more attention. The AH knows that I am 'Jeanne' - or has done since 1st April.

The general readers don't. Even though Jeanne is 'over 50' she has had some very odd propositions. Jeanne's stories had more consistent reading and voting figures than Og.

But... but I'm female. I guess my username doesn't scream that, though. That's a rather old habit of mine. Back in the day of my being on irc, there were nearly never females on and if you had a feminine name you made lots of horny friends really quickly. So I chose an asexual name "blah" and sometimes "psychocat" after my cat. Now that the internet is crowded with females and people who want to be psychocat or blah I meshed the names together which also makes a suitably asexual name although mostly because I was too lazy to think of something better.

When it comes to views and votes, categories count big time. When my contest entry started doing well, I checked the "tops list" in incest. The last story listed (500th) had a score of over 4.70. Compare that to some of the categories Og mentioned such has Romance and Novella.

Of course you've got to figure out how to appeal to folks who prefer stories in a particular category. My previous effort in incest with 37 votes and 8000 views proves I haven't quite mastered that particular marketing skill.
