Nuclear Weapon Ooops

I love caesar salad with the garlic croutons, but its hard to get fresh salmonella where I live.

We grow our own. It's easy.

Edited to add: Sorry, I meant we grow our own e. coli. Of course we don't grow salmonella. That's a market item.

Beware of so-called "farm raised" salmonella. The wild Pacific salmonella is more flavorful and fast acting. If it's going to kill you, you'll know right away.

LOL Talk about a threadjack.... absolutely needed, of course.... but certainly a threadjack

So.... while we are jacking off, so to speak, your posts made me remember the classic 1973 National Lampoon's "Lemmings" album (with John Belushi, Chevy Chase, et al), the mass suicide parody of the Woodstock festival. At one point, the concert is interrupted for an announcement...(by the guy with the annoying NY city accent) ....(as I remember it...)

"Attention! Attention!! I have been advised that there is some really bad acid out there..... Get into it!"

Do not complain about a threadjack. This would be an abysmally dull thread is it stuck to the subject this long.

Shereads' Theory: a Threadjack ceases to be a Threadjack and becomes an Authorized Spinoff Topic or Sub Topic, if the thread starter bestows his or her implicit approval, as demonstrated by one or more replies on the new topic.

They are still here, as a deterent. The warheads could be loaded, that is the deterent capability.

For much more than a decade, it has been realized, and becomes much more apparent with changing international events, that nuc boats are our major deterrent ......... at least, if we don't start losing a few.

JMO

:rose:

Ahhh deterrence..... Mutually Assured Destruction (or MAD), the cornerstone of Cold War with it's peak of 20,000 nuclear warheads pointed at each other...

Despite the "Dr. Strangelove" absurdity of it all.... it actually worked and kept the USSR and the USA out of a direct, hot, confrontation for 40 years. We fought conventional wars by proxy, of course, but it did not end the world. "This is a good thing" (quote from some movie).

But as you note... we still have an active "deterrence" force of some 1,000 warhead deployable (uhhh launched) on 10 minute's notice, with another couple thousand warheads on "back-up"... say a week before deployed (Try to dream up the scenario for how THAT is supposed to work!).

As do the Russians.

Now.... here is a question for you to digest... Who are we deterring? Deterrence works when you are dealing with Nation States...that have something to lose.....

I trust we would all agree that far and away the greatest "nuclear" threat is from "terrorists" who have no Nation State (I caluculate it at 87.2% with North Korea at 9.6%, and everyone else, including France at 3.6%). Who are you going to retaliate against? Saudi Arabia? Talk about solving the energy crisis..... We will ALL be riding bicycles!!)

Anyway... sorry for interrupting what was a much more entertaining threadjack.

You left out a few, countries that clearly endorse and support terrorism, and countries who repeatedly state that other countries need to be removed from the face of the earth may be slightly deterred at the thought of George Bush ridin in on a white horse with 1000 nuclear warheads, and think about, how far would you trust France if all we had to throw at them was french fries?

Beware those lil stands and the lil ol lady's with the ice chest full of burritos.

There was a lady selling some with a ice chest and peoples said she made good ones. She said she had potato ones, egg ones, and meat ones. I didn't want a sausage one so I asked her if the meat ones was beef. She said no, meat. She spoke very broken english and I thought it might just be a language snafu. So I asked again if the meat ones was beef, and she said no, meat.

I ordered a potato one, it was good.

Youre being facetious but SNAFUs are the hallmark of the military. A clerk likely keyed in the wrong munitions number. It happens.

The nukes were obviously on-hand for the weapons loaders to mount on the airplane. AND uranium hardened missles are used all the time to bust bunkers and heavy armor.

When I was in the Air Force we got a crate of Jewish prayer books and Bibles instead of the parts we ordered. On another occasion we ordered an engine for a truck and got a diesel generator. All it takes is one keystroke error by a clerk.
SNAFUs happen anywhere.

When it involves nukes or weapons, it becomes noticeable.

On a tangential tip, the private biotech industry is rife with potential for SNAFU equivalents that will make unaccounted-for nukes look like an unattended fireworks stand.

Okay we can keep a hundred in the garage for deterence....

Seriously.... France? You think France would nuke the US if we did not have nuclear warheads on 10 minute alert? Really? Maybe England.... but not us.

:D
