I'll take a stab at this, though I am unaware of the source.

I would surmise that he/she is indicating that it is much more pleasurable to "get one over on" someone of comparable intellect/craft rather than some idiot.

It means taking someones words and using them against them.

Like having your parents tell you to make your bed and when they dont make theirs mention that to them in front of company and say :"I learned to do that from your example"

Some are all about power: control, dominance, alpa-status, etc.

They are unlikely to understand different points of view, so they miss out on lots of things which might otherwise bring them joy.
