And it sucks. :(

Is it only my stories, or has anyone else noticed their feedback decreasing? Normally I'll get quite a few the first week a story is up. Lately hardly any. I'm mostly surprised that my V-day story hasn't generated more than a few emails. After all, more people read it.

Oh well, perhaps I'll just have to go back to writing blatantly detailed sex acts. But that kinda gets a bit boring after a while...

It's not just you. I have had 50 votes on my Valentine's story, but pretty much NO feedback. I have had quite a few votes on my chapters that are up so far of my novel in the Novels and Novellas category, but pretty much have gotten no feedback on it either (but I have gotten a few pcs).

Hi ya 69,

It really depends on the story, certain groups of readers are more likely to take the time to reply than others. I find the more realistic the story with a wave of emotions the more feedback I get.

Exclude the romance stories that is like writing for your self.

Hi CM how's it going?

LP69,

It's not just you. I've had just as many votes in the last two weeks as the two weeks before that and not received one piece of feedback in that time. Weird? I think so, because the first half of votes brought a good percentage of feedback per vote and the most recent set of votes (same number) has been void of any comments, public or private. The voting has gone well but the feedback has been non-existent. Not sure why this is, but just wanted to let you know you weren't alone.

Lovepotion et al...

I am a new author and I came on tonight to post specfically about the issue at hand. My entire experience at Lit has been positive. I have been a n avid reader for about two years and I only began submitting about a month ago.

I have to admit I used to be like most of the readers here. I would read sroties ofr my own pleasure and never vote or send feedback. Now that I am an author I realize how selfish taht is and how much it sucks. It is all well and good to get a good avergae vote but I am writing to hear what others think of my submissions and 1 piece of feedback is worth more then a 5 vote.

I am willing to be a part of a wroter's circle who at the least takes the time to send some feedback on the other writer's subnissions. I am at the least going to tkae a look at lovepotion69's pieces and comment because she started the thread but if anyone else is interested in being a part of this "Bok Club" let me know.

Obviously I am interested in other writer/reader's comments.

Thanks all.

My feedback has fallen off since the first of the month...but I figured that it had more to do with the volume I was putting out...that I just wasn't getting the amount of feedback I would expect times the number of stories.

Hey Everyone,

Count me in with the decrease in feedback as well.

The main thing I chalk it up to is the popularity of the site as a whole....the more stories that get posted on a certain day, the less chance yours has of getting read, which in turn cuts down on chances to get quality feedback.

The last part of my latest story scored in the 4.7's (this would be the 1-bandits' out there cue to go vote it down) so I took it that the storyline connected with the readers on some level but in the two weeks since it was posted...only two anonymous emails.....

It is very frustrating since votes and feedback are basically the only currency authors have in this forum and you really don't know if your connecting with the masses unless they take the time to tell you.

Funny I've been getting Fb on sories I wrote a while back (because of the way the stories are listed randomly in a given category. Anyway I always get decent fb because I have a list of people who have asked me to notify them when my stories post. (posting seems to be taking forever it's been two weeks but I still won't alert mg just yet :))

My opinion~

When I first come to lit all I did was read.
and I would never be able to read all that
is written. And its seems more and more
strories are posted faster than I can read.
Perhaps its this... that is trailing the responses.
I can offer only one suggestion (69)
The title or subject line has to reach out
and grab a reader as he/she is scrolling
down to entertain themselves.
(~.*) wink

Sad to say, but even the trolls don't seem to be floating about.

Lit must be having a dry spell. Or my writing is crap! :D

LOL, thanks. It's my tribute to Valentine's Day. I did have two hearts that were holding hands, but I decided to change it.

Wishful Dear,

and if the trolls don't come back, i won't complain:)

I was wondering about this to myself when I saw this thread. My feedback has been really light lately too. Views seem to be about normal but feedback, comments and votes seem to be way down.

What are you talking about kelly I read two of your stories last night. I know I placed a public comment on both.

Oh, I am sorry I would have written but it was much easier to just do the public thing. (My main reason for not allowing pc)

Not digging but I really like the Public comment on everyones stories, easy to use. Sorry I still maintain it takes away from feedback, not on my stories.

By the way kelly you are very good. I look forward to posting more replies public or not so keep writing.:rose:

Your comments were the first ones I had gotten in some time with the exception of a bad one that I deleted because it was more of a personal attack than a critique. I had gotten used to getting comments and/or feedback on an almost daily basis and then it sorta dried up.
BTW, thank you for your wonderful comments. I especially liked that you were honest in one. Most are so positive you know that they aren't being truly honest.

I agree that the feedback and voting have disappeared, like a virgin on prom night.

Maybe it’s because of “Tax time” or people are sick of the cold weather?

I decided to delete about 6 of my stories that can’t seem to get the scores I had hoped for.

I guess I’m pissed about that and don’t want to see them on my list.

Does anyone else ever feel that way about his or her work?

I don't really get pissed about the voting or feedback but it can be frustrating when your story (especially if you think it's a good one) seems to get buried or forgotten. I don't really care about the votes so much but feedback of some kind is nice if only to know what mistakes you might have made. The voting I think can be a decent barometer of what people think but too many give it an automatic 5 or 1 depending on their mood.

I have come to the conclusion that raw, plotless sex gets more feedback and votes than anything else.

My short horror for hallowe'en was the last thing I posted, and got more votes and feedback than either of my novels, both of which have been online several months now.

I still check here from time to time, but TBH the whole thing has totally put me off bothering to write any more. What's the point if it doesn't get read?

A lesson in how to whine...

If you whine about the difference between erotica, and porn, but only write one or the other, then you can't really expect to get feedback from both types of readers, now can you?

If you write exclusively for catagories that are notorious for hardly gving any feedback then why are you whining at all?

If you first whine about the quality of the feedback your stories are getting, then it is impolite to later whine about how the feedback has dwindled of late.

If you go wild for the new PC's then you also shouldn't whine about the dwindling feedback.

I could go on, but I won't.

Now as for the real reason to why feedback has dwindled. There are literally thousands of contributing authors on this site, and more being added every day. That means that there are more, and more submissions submitted every day too. And it goes without saying that that means that our stories are posted on the NEW STORIES page for a lot less time if they even get posted on the first page to start with. So what all of this means is that less readers get to read your work when it is fresh, and new, and when it is most likely to receive the most feedback.

And since every author here gets off on the feedback that their stories gather; IE "Ay, that's a great story, thanks for the orgasm!" Perhaps what we need to do here is possibly rethink our own egotistical bias towards our work against what our readers really think of it. For instance did we KNOWINGLY submit something substandard? Did we edit, edit, edit it until it was as polished as it should be before submitting it? Did we submit the work only because we were tired of fooling with it even though we knew it was garbage, but wanted some feedback to substantiat our existance as a writer? Did we submit work with out targeting the audience that reads that catagory because we couldn't care less what the reader thinks, we write they way we want to?

The truth is; writing is a hard, and a lonely work in progress at best. Before the internet, Literotica, and feedback authors at best only had friends, and family to read their work. And if those people weren't into reading, then the author had no one to comment, critique, or even praise their work. And if we were to really be honest to ourselves, most of us are looking for praise, not critique. Especially from family and friends, though not as much from actual peers, even though that is what we truly crave the most.

And why? Because if we get that praise for our work that means we are as worthy of being called an author as those who make a living at it. And if that doesn't inflat an author's ego, then nothing ever will. And the inflation of our egos is one of the stimulants that inspired each of us to become authors in the first place.

But is our ego all that we have to define our self worth as writers? As human beings? No, of course not, but until something better comes along we'll take it, and maybe whine about not getting enough of it instead of trying to make our work worthy of reading in the first place.

As Always
I Am the
Dirt Man

You gave me a lot to think about, I don't know about the rest.

Thanks, Jmt
