Purple State Supreme Court Makes Major Ruling On Election Integrity Law, Reversing Previous Decision​

The North Carolina Supreme Court made several key election decisions on Friday, ruling to reinstate a voter ID law and keep the Republican-led redistricting maps in place.

The rulings were made possible after the court was swung in November from 4-3 Democrat-controlled to 5-2 Republican. The voter ID law, enacted in 2018, had previously been thrown out over claims it unfairly targeted minorities.

“The people of North Carolina overwhelmingly support voter identification and other efforts to promote greater integrity and confidence in our elections. Subjective tests and judicial sleight of hand have systematically thwarted the will of the people and the intent of the legislature,” wrote the court’s Republican majority on the voter ID case.

“But no court exists for the vindication of political interests, and judges exceed constitutional boundaries when they act as a super-legislature,” the decision continued. “Plaintiffs here have failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that S.B. 824 was enacted with discriminatory intent or that the law actually produces a meaningful disparate impact along racial lines.”

That has nothing to do with needing an ID. I walked to work. Everything I bought liquor included when of age was on base but a military ID is not government ID. Try using it at a bank or back when we used checks for that. If you take the bus or can walk to work you really don't have a need for a Driver's License or ID.

If you are a youngster and your parents drive you to work and or school you have no need.

This is specifically targeted at minorities and young people and serves no other purpose. Twenty plus years of the Right searching for proof of fake voters has shown nothing that would change the outcome of an election. Most of them turn out to be stuff like Sean Renaud and Sean Renaud II but someone signed on the wrong line or died.

The 14th Amendment extends citizenship to all natural born or naturalized Americans regardless of race and guaranteed that rights of citizenship, like voting, cannot be restricted by the states. The 15th Amendment prohibits restricting the right to vote due to race. The 17th Amendment requires states to elect senators by popular vote. The 19th Amendment extends voting rights to all women.
The 26th Amendment extends the right to vote to everyone 18 years of age and older.
Additionally, the 24th Amendment explicitly bans poll taxes, which often prevented low-income citizens of all races from voting.

I registered to vote as well, not just passed my driving test.

I’ll never win or even compete against your service in the military. I’m eternally grateful for the people who gave their lives for our country.

If you don’t believe in rights, then you need to accept voter id laws and move on.
