Montana Voting System Shut Down After Kamala Harris Left Off Ballot

https://www.newsweek.com/montana-voting-system-shut-down-1957839

Max Himsl, a Montana voter living in the UK, reported the issue when trying to fill out his ballot online, according to the Daily Inter Lake, a local newspaper. He reported it right away to the Flathead County Election Department on Friday, September 20.

As a precaution the Secretary of State's office, run by Republican Christi Jacobson, took down the electronic absentee system for troubleshooting, although it insisted that very few voters had been affected by this issue.

Jacobson was involved in a recent election controversy involving Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights, an abortion activism group in Montana, which threatened Jacobson with a lawsuit in July 2024 for removing names from a petition to get abortion included as a right in the Montana Constitution.

Jacobson also recently asked the Supreme Court of the United States to consider appealing voter laws that were found unconstitutional by the Montana Supreme Court. The laws that were struck down prevented 17-year-olds from obtaining a ballot even if they turned 18 by election day, eliminated same-day registration, refused university ID as valid ID, and banned ballot collectors who received "pecuniary benefits."

Jacobson has claimed that the Montana court overstepped its bounds as it became a state court that was determining its own election laws.

What?? How did that happen? My bad!!

Court stops Pennsylvania counties from tossing mail-in votes over incorrect envelope dates

https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/court-ruling-pennsylvania-mail-in-ballot-envelope-dates/

In a decision handed down as the state is being hotly contested in the presidential contest, Commonwealth Court ruled 4-1 that disqualifying voters who failed to include the date violates the state constitution's clause that addresses "free and equal" elections.

"The refusal to count undated or incorrectly dated but timely mail ballots submitted by otherwise eligible voters because of meaningless and inconsequential paperwork errors violates the fundamental right to vote" in the Pennsylvania Constitution, wrote Judge Ellen Ceisler in the majority opinion, siding with the left-leaning groups that sued three months ago.

Evidence in litigation surrounding the requirement has indicated older voters have been more likely to have their ballots thrown out for lack of an accurate handwritten date. Far more Democrats than Republicans vote by mail in Pennsylvania.

In a lone dissent, Judge Patricia McCullough said the majority showed "a wholesale abandonment of common sense," ignoring more than a century of legal precedent and rewriting the 2019 state law that dramatically expanded mail-in voting.

Well I guess you’ll just have to drive your old ass into the polling place then, won’t you?

Republicans step up effort to change Nebraska voting rules to help Trump

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/21/republicans-nebraska-trump-electoral-college

Congressional Republicans are demanding an 11th-hour change to Nebraska’s presidential voting system in a move that could transform the electoral calculus and tip the race to Donald Trump in the event of a photo finish.

The change would increase the number of electors allotted to Trump for winning the solidly Republican state from four to five – and raises the possibility that the former president could end up tied with Harris at 269 electoral votes each.

Such a scenario would pitch the ultimate decision on the election into the House of Representatives, which has the constitutional authority to certify the results – meaning the outcome of November’s House election, in which Republicans are defending a wafer-thin majority, could be even more pivotal than usual.

See!! Trump was right all along—he told us all that the system was rigged! Guess who rigged it??

Remember when all the Republicans had to do to steal an election was pay some fool to stand as a sham candidate in an election and steal the result by reason of their fake candidate having a similar name as the genuine Dem candidate? 6000 votes were lost to a no hope, no campaign candidate and the criminals stole the election by just 32 votes in the end.

The whole thing was mired with typical MAGA level corruption involving Hooters waitresses, 'political consultation fees' paid to a Playboy model, racial insults, perjury, all the usual stuff. Oh, and back-waxings at a spa.

Such simple, innocent times. The criminal organisation known as the 'Republican Party' is facing glacial rate justice and the Judge has prevented the publication of the names of the people who funded this Election Steal. Nobody is wondering why.

Here’s something of interest…a non-partisan report on the 2022 Florida midterms had some interesting tidbits. Like RhondaSantis getting a shit-ton of cash—the most in the state’s—oops, make that the nation’s—history.

Gee…I wonder what could have possibly happened to bring about these changes? I’m sure it had nothing to do with a a corrupt orange wannabe dictator president polluting the White House with his graft.

https://lci.fsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/24-LCI-FES-Report-V10.pdf
● In the 2022 general election, a total of 7,796,916 Floridians voted out of 14,503,978 who
were registered, or some 53.8% of all registered voters.
● In the 2022 general election, turnout reached 49% of the voting-eligible population,
which includes those who were not registered but were otherwise eligible to vote.
● In the 2022 general election, 33% of voters were registered as Democrats, 45% as
Republicans, and 21% as NPAs and non-major party identifiers (i.e., Independents).
In 2022, Republican Party voter registration surpassed Democratic Party registration for
the first time. Republicans made up 36% of registered voters, Democrats made up 34%,

and Independents made up 30%.
Compared to the last midterm, in which the gubernatorial contest was closely contested,
2022 represented a substantial change, with GOP incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis

winning the race easily with 59.4% of the vote compared to 49.6%.
● According to Transparency USA, contributions to Governor DeSantis’s campaign over
this election cycle totaled $202,048,288, making DeSantis the most heavily funded

gubernatorial candidate in the nation’s history.
In comparison, Desantis’ 2018 opponent Charlie Crist raised and spent $32,437,595, a
more typical amount for a gubernatorial contest.
● The US Senate election outcomes also represented a substantial change in
competitiveness, with incumbent Senator Marco Rubio receiving 58% of the vote
compared to Val Demings’ 41%.
Florida received an additional Congressional seat as a result of reapportionment and
redrawn Congressional district lines. The result was an increase in Republican-leaning
districts. In 2020, Republicans held 16 seats and Democrats held 11, but after the 2022
election Republicans held 20 seats and Democrats held 8.
● Compared to 2020, when 43% of Floridians chose to vote by mail, only 36% of
Floridians chose to cast their ballot this way in 2022. Meanwhile, 20% of voters chose to
vote early in 2022, leaving 34% of voters casting their ballots on Election Day.

Key Nebraska Republican comes out against Electoral College rule change

State Sen. Mike McDonnell (R), seen as the key figure in determining whether Republicans would have enough support to move forward, came out against the effort in a statement Monday, all but dashing his party’s hopes of switching to a winner-takes-all system in the Cornhusker State.

“In recent weeks, a conversation around whether to change how we allocate our electoral college votes has returned to the forefront,” McDonnell said in a statement. “I respect the desire of some of my colleagues to have this discussion, and I have taken time to listen carefully to Nebraskans and national leaders on both sides of the issue. After deep consideration, it is clear to me that right now, 43 days from Election Day, is not the moment to make this change.”

But McDonnell on Monday said he had told Pillen he would “not change my long-held position and will oppose any attempted changes to our Electoral College system before the 2024 election.”

He added that he would encourage his colleagues in the Legislature next year to pass a constitutional amendment to alter the rule, which would then go before voters.
in other words, democracy

after Georgia rammed through new election 'certification' rules so close to November 5th, democrats are trying to get Brian Kemp to do his job:

The Democrats filed a petition late Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court claiming that Kemp is required to hold hearings on the matters and to remove the board members if he finds they violated state law.

“We have a board that appears to be running amok, and we have one avenue, the governor, for removing them in instances when they are breaking the law,” said Cathy Woolard, a former chairwoman of the Fulton County Board of Registration & Elections. “We simply must take this action in order to attempt to force him to do his job.”

One of the rules allows county boards to launch “reasonable inquiries” before certifying their results if they believe irregularities occurred. Critics say the rule could empower rogue county boards not to certify their results and would most certainly encourage mistrust in the presidential outcome.

Another rule, approved Friday, requires all counties to hand-count the number of ballots cast in each precinct on election night or the following day.

The offices of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Attorney General Chris Carr, both Republicans, have come out against the rules. Carr’s office issued an opinion stating that the election board had overstepped its authority by passing rules that go beyond what state law allows. The rules are “likely the precise type of impermissible legislation that agencies cannot do,” the memo stated.

one to watch

If a county fails to count all its votes by hand, is that whole county’s vote tossed ??
Great if you have 100.000 voters! You can finish counting! 2,000,000 ???

Johnson's big 'IF' on certifying the election results

“Do you commit to observing regular order in the certification process of the 2024 election, even if Kamala Harris beats Donald Trump?” a reporter asked Johnson [Tuesday] morning. “Well, of course, if we have a free, fair and safe election, we’re going to follow the Constitution,” Johnson replied.

At a superficial level, Johnson’s answer might seem anodyne. If the election is free and fair, “of course” he’ll accept the outcome.

But just below the surface, a rather clumsy shell game comes into view.

  1. Republicans expect to accept 2024 results, so long as the elections are “free and fair.”
  2. Republicans will decide for themselves whether the elections were “free and fair,” based on amorphous and undefined standards they will not share.
  3. If Democrats win elections, the results necessarily trigger questions about the “free and fair” nature of the elections — because Republicans say so — at which point the GOP’s intentions to accept the results are thrown out the window.

House Democratic Conference Chair Pete Aguilar told reporters, in reference to Johnson, “He doesn’t have a track record that would indicate to the American people that he should be believed.”

DOJ lawsuit alleges Alamaba is removing voters past deadline

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 requires states to finish removing ineligible voters from registration lists no later than 90 days before a federal election.

According to the Justice Department, this rule gives time to fix errors that might occur in a systematic removal program and prevent voter confusion. Federal investigators said they found both native-born and naturalized U.S. citizens had been notified that they were going to lose their voter registration status as a result of Alabama's initiative.

Allen's announcement occurred 84 days before the election.

“The right to vote is one of the most sacred rights in our democracy,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in the news release. “As Election Day approaches, it is critical that Alabama redress voter confusion resulting from its list maintenance mailings sent in violation of federal law."

It's damning when JD Vance is afraid to admit Donald Trump lost in 2020, just like most of the Republican party, which tells me there is a problem with Republican leadership, but really the problem is Republican voters who don't care if their leaders lie about anything, they just care about keeping up the hate. Hillary Clinton was right.

was sick, she believed the lies, lost everything and when one of the guys delivering paperwork about her foreclosure saw her pointing a shotgun at them he fired at her.

there's no joy to be had in this only a sense of 'this is where we are and trump shares the blame'
I think the only benefit(?) of supporting Trump is you get to be openly racist. Live by the gun, die by the gun.
