It was determined well in advance of the incident in Boston that the White House would NOT be sending anyone to Margaret Thatchers services.

NICE! Way to go Barack. You're one super cool guy!

i don't get the outrage here. the people who actually knew & worked with thatcher, now retired, were there. they were the american government when she was in power and it means something that they were there. i'm sure raegan would have gone if he'd been alive & kicking.
sending along some total stranger just to tick the right boxes would make no sense at all. an empty, token gesture that means nothing.

And why should the WH send anyone to Margaret Thatcher's services? I think the Brits can be trusted to do the stake-and-garlic thing properly all by themselves.

"He's gone too much! He uses too many resources flying all over! How dare he not fly to England for a funeral of a woman he probably never dealt with nor supported! How dare he not take Air Force One and show our support!"

Make up your mind.

Not to mention that his entourage costs Murica "TWO BRAZILLIAN DOLLARS PER DAY"

Ricky, you're a fucking moron.

Go back to whatever board you came from and stay there.

We have enough right wing douchebags over here already.

Oh, did I mention the delegation he sent to Venezuela for the Hugo Chavez services? I forgot to bring that up didn't I. My bad.

Hugo Chavez died in office. Margaret Thatcher hadn't been in office since 1990. See the difference there?

Did none of the past (not current) US delegation go to her funeral? I have no idea because I don care about her funeral. I did care about Hugo Chavez though.

Cheney went, I think.

Thatcher was not a head of state, now or ever. Since when is the funeral of a British Prime Minister a state occasion, requiring a presidential delegation?

Oh, but when Reagan died he was not "in office". I bet someone from Great Britain came to the services. Maybe it was the guy who works in the mail room. Yeah, I bet that was it.

Ok, so long as no US representative is sent to Nelson Mandela's funeral, for example.

If the US doesn't send a high level representative when the old terrorist finally kicks the can, I can't even image the outrage that would result.

Fortunately, the extreme left was caught off guard when Reagan died and weren't able to organize the same kind of childish hate tantrum they have for Thatcher. After they boggled it and pretty much let the Reagan tributes go off without too much tantrums, they decided to plan this whole thing for several years. The childish hate response to Thatcher's death was planned for many years.

I propose we "get even" by organizing childish responses when Mandela kicks it. That dude was actually a friggin' terrorist for crying out loud. He doesn't deserve ANY respect when he dies.
