Hey everybody! I just got my nipples pierced two days ago and I was wondering what people who's had them for a while feels about it now. How long did yours take to heal? I hear that most people get more sensation but there's still a small percentage of people who lose feeling. Is this true? I'm not sure what to expect.

I'd be interested in the responses too. I'm thinking of getting mine done in a few weeks.

Answers

I have mine done, I also have a total of 8 piercings.

4 in ears, 1 nipple, 1 navel, 1 tonuge, 1 at the base of the shaft...

points to know about pierceings

1) ALL pierceings take about 6 months to totally heal through...(No if about it)

2) The product that you should use to keep them clean and stop germs, is called Bactine... its the best thing out there.

3) Do not let peole play with the nipple piercings or genital pierces fo at least 6 weeks...

4) The sensation does not increase with everyone... but most feel that it does. What happens is the nerves that are killed, make the last remeaning ones more acute to touch..

5) Do not change the org. piercing until at least 1 year... this will give enough time for the body to do a couple of rounds of fightinh with the different metals.

6) The best medal is niobeom..(No one is allergic to it... )

7) DO NOT USER A PIERCING GUN FOR ANY PIERCINGS IT WILL CAUSE MORE SHOCK DAMAGE THEN ANYTHING. PLUS IT WILL HEAL POORLY. ALWAYS GET IT DONE BY A PIERCER WITH NEEDLES.

Thats some thoughts anymore question just ask... I also do tatoos and pierces for some people... (Bad childhood) So I know alot on the subjest.

I used to have my nipples pierced

I had mine done about 2 years ago. Being large, in breast and body size, it was difficult to keep them from getting bumped and banged around (especially doing private duty nursing care for kids!)

Unfortuatley, they began to heal crooked, and then I had an unfortunate hamper accident, and tore one out (it actually didn't hurt as much as one would think....I was reaching into the hamper, stood up, got caught, and that was the end of that..).

I'm considering getting them done again. I really liked them. As far as sensation goes.. I had more sensation for the 5 months mine were pierced, and they looked great!!!

As for the aftercare, follow your piercer's advice, and I have to disagree with Cyan... Bactine isn't usually reccomended (I think the APP actually discourages it, but since they change reccomendations occasionally, you'd have to check the current reccomendations)

Good luck with them!

Make that a double OUCH OUCH!!

Reading these makes me wanna cringe in pain!!! One in each ear is plenty for me!! So....I'm boring...I can deal with it! :D

I had one of nipples done 6 years ago. It took quite a long time to heal. In fact it really didn't heal until I subjected it to a few days in the red sea learning how to dive.
Now I wash it with soap and water in the shower, spin it around to clean any gunk out(yes stuff does come out every now and again) and rinse real well. I did have one infection but it cleaned up using soap and water and using disenfectant in the am and pm.
It has made me really sensitive. But do not let anyone chew on it till it heals, it will get infected.
I still might get the other one done, maybe.

i had mine done and they grew out, had them done again and they grew out again. what did i learn?

keep them clean, don't touch 'em. don't let other people touch 'em. if something hurts, do your best to make it not that way anymore. that means if you thought you could have them played with, but find out that him pulling hurts, ask him nicely to stop or lighten up. when are you healed? when it doesn't feel like a piercing, just a part of you. it can take a long time for nipples, be patient,...

i will say i loved them, and i want to get them done again, i'm just worried about ruining chances to breastfeed, but that's my end, anyhow, you have a long time to enjoy them, so don't be impatient, it'll just bite you in the ass later :)

From BME: http://www.bme.freeq.com./qod/index.html (I searched for 'bactine').

Q--2000/10/11 23:14 I am a pro.body piercer.I tell people to clean there piercing with dial soap (antibacteral) and bactine. Some say that is bad. Why?

A--none Dial isn't necessarily a bad soap... some people can use it fine, others have reactions. That's why no one product is best for everybody. If a lot of people are coming back to you with problems, then it may be time you considered recommending something else. Aftercare isn't about products. It's about aftercare.

Aside from Bactine being very drying and possibly increasing scar tissue, it contains anaesthetic, which some people are unknowingly allergic to. There is also growing evidence that when bacteria is on the outside of the bottle, it leeches through to the inside, making the Bactine literally dirty. This is because of the material used to make the bottle itself. Bactine won't do anything that warm saltwater won't do better.

AND

Q--Oh great, so now I find out Bactine is bad for pierings! lol My piercer TOLD me to use that crap, and if my piercing was ever red or anything to then use sea salts. I've had it for three years now, and never had any problems with it. But what my question is, what is it about Bactine that makes it so bad for fresh piercings??

A--It's easily contaminated. Stuff likes to grow in benzalkonium chloride. Further, it has lidocaine, which is unnecessary. That said, I use Bactine in a diluted (1:1) ratio and heal wonderfully with it. I've been healing piercings for years, though, and know my body and what works. It's best if the general populus avoids Bactine.

I couldn't find anything on this specifically, but I would question it. Why is it "ok" to play with the piercings after 6 weeks, but not change jewelry? I agree that the piercing should be healed before changing jewelry, but it shouldn't take a year.

From BME: http://www.bme.freeq.com./qod/index.html (I searched for 'niobium').

Q--What are/is the advantage(s), if any, of having Niobium over stainless steel? Besides the greater choice in colors?Tim

A--Niobium doesn't contain any nickel. It's a very intert elemental metal, and most people even with metal allergies don't have any problem with niobium. Stainless steel and 14k gold both contain large amounts of nickel and can irritate a significant percentage of people. Titanium doesn't contain any nickel either and is becoming more common than niobium -- it also has the advantage of being very light.

BME would agree with this statement.

Some key phrases from BME that I think apply:
1. no one product is best for everybody.

2. Aftercare isn't about products. It's about aftercare.

3. Bactine won't do anything that warm saltwater won't do better.

4. **most** people even with metal allergies don't have any problem with niobium.

I had mine done about 5 years ago. I had to take them out when I went into policework because the vest kept chafing.

I've been considering getting them redone lately though.

Thanks everyone for answering so quickly!
In my other piercings, I've used Bactine but I heard it heals the skin weird so I've been looking for alternatives. Is the sea salt really that effective?
Soap wise, I bought a cleanser from my piercer called, 'Satin' and it's 'antimicrobial.' Supposedly, it has added oils that keep the skin from drying up like normal antibacteria soap causes.
A couple questions though, I noticed that there's a slight bruising around my nipple area and I was wondering if this was natural. I think it might have been casue by the metal forcep my piercer was using to hold my nipple while he pierce me. Also, I'm still really sore and I wanted to know how long the soreness usually lasts.

The soreness will last for awhile, maybe a couple weeks or so.

And, yes the sea salt works wonders, especially if you start to develop keloids (kind of like growing out, but the skin around it gets really, really swollen) which usually appear if there's trauma to the area within the first six months or so.

I've had my nipples done twice, the first time they were done horizontally and now I have them done vertically with barbells. I also have a multitude of other piercings, as it is a hobby of mine... any other questions feel free to email me.

OH YEAH! And you should check out bme.freeq.com, the site that was mentioned above. It's a really useful site!!

Good luck.

Alright ppl...ya got my nipples hurting just thinking about it...LOL

OUCHHHHHHHHYYYYY...

I have had mine pierced for about 4 months now, it only takes about 3-4 weeks for the pain to subside. Sensation? You bet'cha! Wow, I have heard of stories where the sensation was increased, but I had no idea!

[/B]

It is true, you can change it earlier, but it is best adive to leave it alone for at least a year. This gives you and you piercing enough time to go through the different changes. Since it is a nipple piercing, I would adise and many other piercers(mind you some may still disagree) to leave it alone for a year. But the min. you should leave it is about 6 weeks, thats how long it will take the body to create new flesh and heal itself. If you find you are devoling a bump, it is because it as not been cleaned right, or your body is trying to rejest it.

Now with the Bactine comment, yes many people disagree that it is good for cleaning. But you must also remember that your cleaning supplies are only as good as the person using them. Any cleaning agent can be come bacterial ridden, even antibacterial soaps or sprays.

The truely best thing is just plan soap and warm water 3 times a day and to turn it once or twice during cleaning. To break off any wbc's (white blood cells). Just remember that when using a cleaning solution, choose one that you are not going to reat with. And yes people can react with antibacterial soaps, sprays...etc.

With the notice about sea salts... thats junk.. really even common table salt will do the same thing... All the redness, and drying is telling you. Is that your body is dehydrated and needs water in that section... I know this because I have a minor in Genetic engineering. If that is happening the best thing for it is something like a V-E cream or spray... This will help in keeping it from drying and with scar tissue. The same goes with tatoos... the best thing for them is a little soap and warm water to clean them and then V-E cream or spray...

Thanks
Cyan

I don't mean to be ignorant but Cyan, what's a V-E cream?

So which is the "best thing"??

It might do the same thing, but be careful with the type of jewelry you have. I have gold in my eyebrow and daith (inner ear piercing) and was told by my piercer that the iodine in the table salt would react with gold and tarnish it.

Lot's of good advice...

Thanks to everyone for all the interesting and useful advice. When my adorable CD-able had her tummy pierced the info we had was sketchy. CD-able is very sensitive to medication ie lots of allergic reactions. The salt water didn't seem to be doing it so we used Betadine for a while, making sure to rinse it completely (she can react to it too!). It knocked out the infection in a heartbeat. We used to use it in a surgery I worked at as a teenager. The pharmacist be bought it from said that even if germs get into the bottle they'll die on the spot! If you do use it be careful because it stains and, as somebody mentioned, the iodine might stain gold.

CD-able thought about doing her nipples, but there were enough horror stories and they are so sensitive... positively orgasmic...that we decided not too. Instead she found some jewellry custom made by a silver smith in London that clips to the nipple very securely and, she says, feels wickedly delicious. They are gorgeous too. Hard to describe, maybe I'll post a photo on our web site. Cost about £70 ($100).

Oh back to the piercing...took months to heal...but lovely!

Enjoy...
