Nicks

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

From my friends and children.
Lady: because my friends always said I was calm and collected, always acting like a lady.
Cibelle: My kids when younger used to say " oh maman t'es tellement belle" (oh mom you're so beautiful"
So I combined the two together and came up with LadyCibelle

What do you think it says about you

That in most situation you can count on me (for the Lady part), that I'm level-headed and some people would say that I'm hard to reach.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Yes I would think so.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Pretty much yeah...WYSIWYG

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Sure, no problem

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

Not really.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

Another one that some people used to call me....IceQueen.

How did you get yours/come up with yours?
--Kassiana was the full name of a non-player character vampire I ran. I liked her a lot and used her name for a lot of stuff on the 'Net, including here.

What do you think it says about you?
--If you know the above, it says I'm a gaming geek. If you don't, I guess it sounds kinda formal. It is unique, though. I've only met one man who claimed to know anyone with that name IRL, and he was from Germany.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?
--Well, I am a gaming geek, so I guess. I'm not particularly formal, but I am reserved until you get to know me.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?
--It's a part of myself, certainly. It's not my whole self, but then again, no one really uses their whole self with most people, anyway. Just think about the way you act at work, then around your mother, then around your friends from college. All yourself, but all different, right?

Do you like it when people shorten your name?
--Eh, I don't mind "Kass." I do mind "Kassi." Sounds too cheerleader-ish. No offense to cheerleader types, of course, but I'm not what I think that name implies...perky and cutesy.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?
--They will anyway. Best to just say what short forms you find acceptable and go with them, or pick a name that's too short to shorten.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
--I do have a different nick on some sites. My maid of honor gave me a real nickname and I use it to argue religion.

I signed up for Lit YEARS ago, and this is what I was collecting at the time. And as I was exploring the duality of my sexuality the duality of the name fit.

What do you think it says about you?

I think it says I'm a fishy lady! LOL

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

I'm really more of a goofy lady, but the image of a cartoon dog with boobies just doesn't seem appealing...

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Very. I talk to people as myself, usually.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Yes.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

No. But I'm glad you pointed out about yourself not liking it. I have considered you as "Tate" every time I read your posts.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

In real life I have many nicknames, just something people do for me, I guess. If you talk to me long enough, a nick will emerge from your brain for me also!

As I really present my actual self, rather than a character of myself (without using my name), I seem to connect with those that present a reality of themselves as well.

...Lou :rose:

As you can see (obviously) .. I used my RL name here .. and added that dumb www in front .... I didnt know until after I had registerd the name that it would appear as a "clickable" link in every post .. which takes you into cyberspace to some non-existent website... live and learn

my only nickname .. which a few on here know is "Bear" .. which was given to me by a past RL love .. who adored my furry chest :) .. god I miss her :(

anyways, my name, and nickname are virtually un-shorten-able so thats not a problem.

For those that know me as "Bear" .. I do luv the nicname and I think it reflects "me" pretty well ... I am cuddly and furry .. lol

thanks Tate for the xplanation on your nicname! ... I will never call you "tat" ... ewww

Originally posted by Tatelou ....My nickname, Tatelou, is just that, and it has been my nickname all my life. It is pronounced Tate (as in the art gallery) Lou (as in loo - toilet).

It's taken from my two actual names: Katie Louise. When I was born, my brother couldn't say my full name, so said "Tatelou" instead. It stuck. My Dad still calls me Tate now.

Anyway, I'll add more answers to my own questions, maybe later.

Lou :rose:

Q: Is Tate pronounced: "T- ate" or "T-ahh-tee" or "T-ate-ee"?

I had never heard of the Art Gallery ... until I googled it :)

How did you get yours/come up with yours?
I created mine some 12 years ago. I used it mainly for games like Dungeon's & Dragons and any video games that required a name to be typed in. Then when I started up online, of course it stuck. It is also the name of the main character in the novel I'm writing.

What do you think it says about you?
It says a lot about me, for anyone who knows me in real life.. not so much for those who don't, considering I have found out that it is the shortform of a russian name. Anatoly = Tolyk (I have no clue why they add the K) I am not certain how the russians pronounce it, but I've always said Tall-ick, where as a lot of people tend to pronounce it Toll-ick or Toe-lick (same thing really)

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?
Yes, as I said above, it is a great reflection of who I am, to people who know me, some people have been known to call me Tolyk in person and I respond..

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?
Yes, I'm a very open person, in real life or online.. I'm a bit more shy in person, but once I've gotten used to someone, I open right up.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?
Yes, I'm rather partial to Tol. In fact I put Tol in my sigline in an attempt to get more people to shorten my name ;)

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?
Nope, I like it.. I've also been called just play T in many places, but that is harder, since now just my name starts with T..

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
I have a variety of different handles, but I tend to stick with Tolyk for most things, or else I forget :) I've a very horrid memory.

(Oh, and Liar, about your question, "Shorten it to what?" you shorten it yourself every time you sign.. #L...)

Subo97

I chose Subo97, back when I first came on line back in 97 because the name I wanted, Subotai, was already taken. It was a boyhood nickname, believe it or not. I love History, majored in it, and it appealed to me. Subotai was a Mongol Paladin, Ghenghis Khan's right hand man. I shortened it to Subo97. Little did I know how misunderstood it would be untill I started getting pm's from all those doms out there. I don't like it shortened becuse of that misunderstanding, but people do, so that's all right. When I became a substitute teacher, it also fit what I was doing, so I resolved to keep it. The meaning is not very obvious, but I've grown used to it and I've never been much for changing my persona to fit the moment. It just gives me some anonymity.

Y'all have very intriguing stories to your names, thanks for sharing.

Wow. That's not fun to say.

I think cheerful deviant works for me. It doesn't really come form anywhere. I just made it up when I started posting. I wanted something that was kindof different and a little plucky.

I guess it suits me pretty well, I'm usually pretty cheerful, at least in here, and if you read my stories, you would know that I'm a deviant.

I gave some devil duckies to friends as stocking stuffers this year...I actually thought of you when I spotted them in the shop, and kept calling them deviant ducks when the stockings were emptied...just laughing to myself. If only they knew!

Lady Jeanne is a bit of an ironic joke, as the point of my Lit stories is certainly NOT about being a lady. I've been called Lady J and LJ, both of which I like.

How did you get yours/come up with yours?
The piece of music by Rimsky-Korsakov. Confession - I've never even picked up a copy of the 1001 Arabian Nights!

What do you think it says about you?
That I'm tenacious, resourceful and never run out of ideas.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?
Yes.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?
More and more as I get older and start being the person I want to be.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?
It makes me smile, because it causes endless problems!

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?
No.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
I'm happy with the one I have.

Excellent thread, Lou! :rose:

Re: Re: Nicks

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

I thought if I chose a "proud" name, self-confidence and a thick skin would come along with it. (I was wrong.)

What do you think it says about you?

That I'm an optimist.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

By the definition I use in my sig, yes. I am usually memorable, for one reason or another.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Definitely.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Imp suits me just fine.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

Nope.

If you would choose a different nickname, what would it be?

I wouldn't change it now. It's part of who I am.

How did you get yours/come up with yours?
It's a mangled version of a short-lived nickname I had at one point due to my very upper-class accent. I thought it sounded funky, but Lit owuldn't let you have spaces in your nick at the time, so 'The Earl' wasn't available. TheEarl it is.

What do you think it says about you?
Errrr... not a lot really. It just happens to be the name of the persona that I created when I joined and now I couldn't ever think of myself as anything else.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?
Again, not really. I don't know what people expect from a TheEarl (apart from Gauche's horrible comment about imagining Prince Charles. Not sure I'll ever forgive him for that one).

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?
Sort of. To paraphrase my favourite quote - I got off originally on thinking about this secret identity and thinking how surprised everyone would be if they knew. The paradox was that the longer I was TheEarl, the more I changed into the kind of person that people would be less surprised to learn that about. I think both the Earl and the real life me had changed and converged over my time here, both of them changing for the better.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?
I like Gauche's shortening ('The'!). It's a bit of a sod to shorten as 'Earl' just sounds like that's my rl name. Not really bothered to be honest. I answer to 'Hey You!' most of the time.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
I'd be tempted by a movie reference. I do like my kitsch culture and something like 'Crash Override' or 'Zero Cool' would've been quite funky. Maybe 'Draven.'

Let's see who can name the films...

The Earl

Doh.......... original thought!

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

I live in the mountains, I am male, but Mtnman was taken... added year joined. It was a last minute, "duh" creation. Completely sober, just brainless and non-creative.

What do you think it says about you?

Absolutely freaking nothing.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Nope

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

I believe so. It's a handle to give "closet visibility".

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Mtn, Mtnman, suits me just fine.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

Nope.

If you would choose a different nickname, what would it be?

I would need time to reflect, find a more suitable one. I have considered changing, but I do not want to lose link between stories and me. And TateLou found my AV. Gotta keep the AV - fits the name perfectly!!

I was long time married, had two sons and a male dog. I decided to have an e-mail address that reflected my status as the female leader of the pack. Hence 'Matriarch'. When I started writing, I thought it was the perfect name.....older, mature woman.

What do you think it says about you?
I think ......I hope......it reflects me and my personality. A woman of mature years, experienced, calm, supportive.....not sure about the 'wise' bit, though........;)

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?
Yes.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?
I'm amending this from my original post. In truth, I believe my online personality is the real me. My real life personas are play acting to a degree. I can't be really me if I'm pretending. If I can't be honest and open about I feel and want to live and who I want to live my life with, then its not really me. Is it? I am as real in real life as I can be.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?
I do actually. 'Matriarch' sounds kind of formal now. 'Mat', is much more relaxed, intimate even. I like it. I find it ironic that I've ended up with a nickname that is the same as the real name of my youngest son.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?
I don't mind. Whichever people are comfortable with.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
Good heavens, I don't have the faintest idea. It took me long enough to think the other one up. Maybe people would like to suggest a new name??

Tate is pronounced just like Kate (except with a T instead of a K, lol): "T-ate".

Thanks, everyone, for the contributions so far. It really is very interesting stuff, and has certainly helped me to know more about some of you.

Tate ;) :rose:

P.S. I really don't mind any shortening/lengthening of my name. The only thing I don't like is "Tat", probably because it just isn't pronounced that way. I love being called "Lou-Lou" or Loulou, for example, and I get "Laters Taters" said to me a lot, by a "certain someone" :)p), and I like that. It's cool. :D

What do you think it says about you

IT says a lot about my relationship with my mr and the areas I like to expore with my writing

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Yes - at least for lit and the sexual side of my being

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

In part, but there are areas of my life that have nothing to do with it (mom, daughter, domestic engineer)

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

The initials MSL (as I sign my posts) or mrs. lime are fine with me, I don't know what else it could be shortened to. I just hope noone uses mrslime (looks too much like mr slime).

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

As above.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

I just love what I've got and wouldn't want to change it. It's kinda catchy, ya know?

MSL [/B][/QUOTE]

I think it's one of the most clever ones here (or anywhere)

I just thought it was Mrs. Sublime unilt you mentioned 'hubby lime' and I thought, Oh my god- what a clever name, I get it now!:D

could be shortened to sublime, subby, mslime, msl, mrs, underlime (get it?) ok, that's enough. But it's such a cool and clever name. However when addressing you, I could see calling you sublime or something- eisier to type:D

I call CV chilly, as far as I know Im the only one who does. I hope he doesn't mind, but it seems like he would have said something if he did. (do we know for certain that CV is a 'he?'

More about my name later.

I *really* gotta go now!!

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

It's close to my real name. And I added the 666 because I'm a heretic at heart. And you know how most people feel about heretics.

What do you think it says about you?

That I'm a monster. ;)

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Yes.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Yes. I don't like dishonesty so I don't try to create a separate persona for online use.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Not really. RG makes me think I'm working at an ad agency or something.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

To RG, a little. To R, I don't mind that.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

I would probably choose Tanglefinger who is a demon I summoned up on another board I used to infest. It was a political board and Tanglefinger would show up to gloat about how successful his side was at corrupting the stupid humans.

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

My name is Jayde ( pronounced Jade) and Jade is a green stone or green gem, hence the choice of penname

What do you think it says about you?

Lol, not sure. How about, I can be tough, but also sparkle!

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Yeah, pretty much.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Yes

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Only been shortened to GG or Gem and that doesn't bother me at all.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

Something that still gave a definite hint of who I was but with a shroud of mystery around it...
