Nicks

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

I wanted something sexy... NikkiJames sounds like a porn star name. My R/L name (Angel) sounds too much like a made up nickname so I wanted something different.

What do you think it says about you?

Not real sure.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Not really, I don't see myself as sexy.. maybe of something I want to be.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

Not at all.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

Yeah Nikki is just fine. Whatever people want to call me though is just fine. As long as people talk to me, i'm happy.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?
Haven't had anyone actually call me NikkiJames on a thread yet.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?
Buggs ... actually my nickname everywhere else, but was taken here. No variation on the spelling would work as that nickname came from the first time I got online and it was a shortening of my email addy. Dewwy was also a nick, but I didn't like that one.

I posted this on S&P's "Whose name" thread: I took my name from a character in Shakespeare's "A Winter's Tale". She is the lost daughter of a king and queen and represents promise and life (among other things). The Elizabethans pronounced it PURR-ditta. Therefore, calling me 'Perdy' is just wrong (but I won't put you on ignore if you do).

However, in Spanish the word means 'lost girl' and is pronounced Pare-DEE-tah. So Dita is fine.

Earl calls me Pear and I like it. Gauche used to call me Purr, now he calls me something else (don't ask). Pops calls me Darling and it gets my comma excited (don't ask).

As for Loulou's other questions:

What do you think it says about you? That I read Shakespeare, that I like wordplay, that I'm self-diffident but feel about 40 years younger than I am.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are? Yes, but only with regard to what I said above; I do not think of myself as 'lost'.

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself? Mostly.

Do you like it when people shorten your name? No. There are exceptions, see above.

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it? I'd prefer it not be shortened, except for Pear or Dita.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be? What Gauche calls me.

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

--Pretty random. I drive by Shepherd Lane every day and I own 3 german shepherds.

What do you think it says about you?

--Nothing, because I wanted it to be without any connotations.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

--it started out to be generic but now even some of my Real Life friends are starting to call me Carson (jokingly, as in "that Carson is a real asshole.")

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

-- To a point. I'm much more boring in real life though :)

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

-- Carson is fine, but don't care for CS

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

--no prob.

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

--Nothing springs to mind.

Super to hear your voice here again, sweet Perdita. Congratulations on acquiring some new memories.

Thanks Cant and Min. The AV is a bit of Yorkshire, I'll be posting my thoughts and pics soon. P.

Looking forward to the pics, I can wait for the thoughts *big grin*

*HUGS* Welcome back Perdita, have missed ya. It isn't quite the AH without you.

(I guess it is just the Hangout when you aren't around ;) )

Re: Re: Nicks

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

*I generally write as Josh Rose and every one calls me Josh altho I am a girl :) So I decided I wanted something a bit more girly for my sexy scribbles. Sadie Rose is the name of the daughter of one of my characters and altho she's only a little girl, I thought the name was kind of sweet and sexy at the same time so I'm SadieRose*

What do you think it says about you?

*That I can be girly when it suits me* :rose:

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

*no, just a good disguise* ;)

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

*Does anyone?*

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

*I don't mind, tho SR sounds like toothpaste!*

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

*see above*

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

*Candelaria Hand-Shandy* **LOL**

As everyone has already said, what a great thread! I have really enjoyed reading everyone's replies.

Q & A

How did you get yours/come up with yours?

I used "Yui" because it is my name and it was available here at Lit.

What do you think it says about you?
Not much unless you know the meaning…and even then, you might not think it really applies to me, anyway.

Do you think your nickname is a good reflection of who you are?

Yes. You might say I am my nick and my nick is me. ;)

Do you see your online identity in the same way as you see yourself?

"Online yui" is much brighter than "RL Yui" (since "online yui" has a cable modem and can Google at will), but other than that, they are very similar in most ways.

Do you like it when people shorten your name?

There isn't really much to shorten, so it doesn't happen often. My family calls me "Yu-chan" but that doesn't really shorten anything for Lit purposes (and I wouldn't refer to myself that way).

Do you wish they wouldn't shorten it?

"Yu" or "Y" or "I" or "Y" "U" and "I"? (Say them out loud quickly… ;) ) But, everyone, please, feel free to shorten it if it makes you, yu, or u, happy. :D

If you could choose a different nickname, what would it be?

Probably "Fushigi Yui" (or some play on words of that sort ;) )…or something sexy like, "Faye Valentine"…or, though I would never actually do it, I would love to be "Izanami"…or just plain "loopy".

Luck to all,

Yui http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/japan/75827.gif
