NFL rules that suck

you mean like when Tatum et al of the raiders had the stuff slapped all over his arms? That was overdoing it just a tad

Fair catches on kicks. Catch the ball and run or let it go.

I want the quarterback to be able to nail their silly asses in the middle of the back and have the ball stick there while they sprint like Forest Fawking Gump on their way to the end zone...

Nothing is too much when it comes to stickum! If they can't have stickum, ditch those prissy prom gloves or give 'em dresses.

The slide rule, as the man who wears makeup mentioned, is the least sensible and most soccer-like (aka wimpy) rule.

The two-minute warning? This seems unwarranted. Yeah its a free timeout but why? Are teams incapable of looking at teh game clock?

I like the taunting rule. You score, great. You make a helluva catch, great. The guys who taunt look like 12 year olds. The guys who are all business look like they care more about winning the game than makign themselves look good for people on TV. If you have to tell all the other players how great you are then you should shut the fuck up.

Face masks, mouthpieces, and shoulder pads are for pussies - ban them immediately.

No more platoon football. Everyone plays both ways. If you don't like it, play baseball and become a DH.

Restore the rule where the play isn't dead until an official blows his whistle. This will encourage late hits and piling on.

Ban indoor stadiums and especially artificial turf.

Instead of penalties for personal fouls, have the offending player stand at midfield, blinfolded. Then have Dick Butkus get a running start from about the ten yard line and spear the motherfucker in the lower back.

Sounds like rugby...

Sudden Death Overtime This one really sucks, a game is decided by the flip of a coin and a field goal, essentially. I think the whole quarter should be played, and another, and another if need be. 60 Minutes and The Simpsons can wait...

isnt this rule going to be looked at this year? both teams should have an opportunity to score. never made sense to me.

Sudden Death

Have them play the entire 15 minutes. The fuckers get paid enough and the fans deserve it when the pay 200-300 for 2-3 hours of entertainment.

Some hookers are cheaper than that, even group rates.

(edited to say my post crossed with PH's)

I think that Dante and the entire Vikings team would agree with you on this one...

One of my favorite draft memories. Everyone in Pittsburgh just assumed the Steelers would move up and draft Pennington... Instead they stayed put and drafted Troy Edwards 13th overall.

Great pick.

I think Pennington was in the 00 draft and Edwards was in the 99 draft. Actually, you all didn't do that bad, you all took Burress at #8.
He's probably the best receiver in the AFC next season. He leads the league in plays of more than 20 yards.

Plus, further illustrating how a little seasoning can help Pennington was able to learn the system for 2 years before getting action. In Pitt he would've been thrown into the fire immediately.

Personal Fouls on hard hits...

The NFL has never so resembled a league of total pussies. Brian Dawkins, Darrin Woodson, and Roy Williams were all fined for hits that were totally legal but resulted in another player getting injured and were fined significally. College football is growing more physical in terms of hits than the NFL. It seems Taglibue is intent on turning the game into an Arena football like 55-78 point shootouts every after noon.

The Tuck Rule

The dumbest thing I ever heard of. It's too subject to interpretation and it's just plain stupid anyway. If the Quarterback fumble the ball while trying to tuck it's not a fumble it's an incomplete pass. ???? What the hell? A fumble..is a...FUMBLE.

Rookie pay scale

If you're so bad that you need to pick a player in the top ten in the draft what you do not need is for an unproven young player to suction all salary cap space and a roster spot when no one knows if his imputent ass can even play in the NFL. Worse, these fuckers hold out entirely to much for people who really have nothing else to do. Do like the NBA, the first pick gets this much, the second this much, the third...

Player Performance Bonuses
John Kitna would have made 1.6 million dollars if he had taken just 9 more snaps this season. Remember when Lebeau benched him for Akili Smith and the other guy for 3 weeks? Wonder if that had anything to do with it. How about Pat Ramsey in Washington. If he takes 40 percent of the snaps in DC he would have met a contract bonus. Remember when Spurrier was the only one who didn't realize his noodle arm FLA boys belonged on the bench? Wonder if that had anything to do with it. Players aren't paid to play, they are paid to play well. If you do well. Good. Mark it down when your contracts up and it's time for you to reup. But it's making for some dubious personel management decisions when players are rewarded for doing what they are supposed to be doing anyway.

Holding. I think offensive linemen should be able to grab defensive players and put them into a death grip, or Judo choke. I also want to see a return to the head-slap, the NATURAL deterent to holding.

:D

I think it's actually the overtime in college that is likely to be revised soon. Last year some teams ammassed more points in the OT period than they did during regulation.

In college, Special Teams also becomes inconsequential.

Bring back the XFL!

If all of these rules changes are implemented, that's what the NFL will become.

Actually, I think manyof the XFL's rule changes -- espcially their overtime rules -- were far superior to the NFL's rules.

the extra point is too easy. i think they should make the probability of getting the extra point something like 60-40. in rugby you take the kick in line with where the ball is touched down. impossible in nfl cos of the scrimmage so maybe they could narrow the sticks. i think it would force teams to try and score more and if nothing else, would add a little more excitement and tension to the game.

would also kinda like to see kicking the ball allowed when a ball is fumbled. e.g. loose ball on the ground, instead of picking it up (which, of course, would remain legal), a player can kick it further down the field, with the ball remaining live until it is picked up by a person of either team or goes out of bounds. if it goes out of bounds, the team that did NOT kick it, gets possession there, regardless of which team fumbled it.

I like ties!

I was glad we had one this year.

Sometimes neither team DESERVES to win...

I like this one. If you can grow pot in your closet, you can grow grass indoors.
